Detailed Reviews
The Crown was a welcoming respite on a wet winter's day. Hand sanitizer was available on entry and staff asked customers if they had 'logged in' on the NHS app.
Staff were very friendly.
Although we did not want a main meal we had to order 3starters between us to count as a 'substantial meal' Having said that the 3starters we had were all very tasty - stout infused smoked salmon on sourdough bread; creamy wild mushrooms on sourdough bread and mashed aubergine on toast with spicy salsa.
There was plenty of seating in this spacious pub -there was a decent wine list &Fullers own 'London Pride' and Hophead bitter on draught. Prices were reasonable.

Hot day and we ordered a few bar bites which were excellent especially the black pudding scotch eggs. The young lady behind the bar even put some ice in the dog bowl of water she brought out. Very good pub. Spent a couple of hours waiting for the heat to reduce before walking home. Highly recommended

We stayed for one night at the Crown. We booked last minute, so probably got the smallest room. We got a good deal for B&B on Booking. Com (£98).
Although the room was small, it was lovely. It was very clean and had great bits in it, like coffee, teas, biscuits, bottles of water and even a bottle of beer. The shower was great too.
There was a good choice for breakfast, which was served quickly and very nice.
The staff were all polite and on the ball.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and would come again.

The staff were unfailingly pleasant. The Crown is on a busy roundabout and it is noisy. We never had any hot water in the basin despite speaking to the staff. Breakfast is served in the bar area and the housekeeping staff are vacuuming and cleaning up at the same time! The duvet was very thick and we were far too hot, we had to take the cover off the duvet and use it as a sheet. The bathroom was not cleaned during our two day stay, they just made the bed. Dust balls were under the side table in the room and there was still an auction house sticker on its leg. The evening meal was ok. Should we travel to the area again we will be staying somewhere else!

Had lunch today with 12 friends. Booked in advance. Told at the time we could have the fixed price menu with two or three courses. My friend who booked this was told twice this would be available and was even given a paper copy of the fixed price menu to take home and browse. On arrival we were told that this menu is not available in December!! We asked if there could be some compromise but the rude assistant manager was very rude and blunt and offered no alternative or apology for the error on their part. The assistant manager showed zero people skills or any kind of customer service. Dreadful for someone in her position and front of house. The food we did have was very good and the rest of the staff were very pleasant and professional. Not sure I would visit again in a hurry.

Stayed here for two nights as a treat with my mum. Do not recommend staying here. The service was abysmal. The door between the pub for breakfast and where our room was was locked so we had to walk outside to get in, when I mentioned this to the woman she just said ‘oh’ and went over to open the door, good it wasn’t raining! At breakfast we were left on our own on both mornings of our stay, with no one there to take take our order until we had to get up and start looking for someone. The breakfasts were ok but would not have paid for them if they weren’t included.
The next day our tea and coffee was only half replenished in the room. When checking out the girl was sat with her legs up on her phone with no ask if we had a nice stay- summed up our experience here. The two women that served us were just so miserable, showing no hospitality at all. The only hello or notice of us was from the house cleaner who actually said good morning.
Our room was nicely decorated but mould in the shower and a gentle hum coming from something outside the window put a slightly sour taste in our experience. This place was not cheap £230 for two nights, I left feeling ripped off. I filled in their feedback form and asked to be contacted but this has not happened.
I understand it’s a pub with rooms so didn’t expect anything out of this world but I did expect a ‘pub landlord’ welcome or at least not to be seen as a hinderance.
Do not think of staying here, there were many places to stay that were cheaper in the vicinity.

The inn is situated on a very noisy road and the rooms are directly above the outside tables of the pub .
The room was uncomfortably hot and very small. The ceiling is very low and I bumped my head several times .
Staff was pretty nice but the hotel should be marketed as a motel , the expectations created by the owners advertising was not met at all.

This is a copy of the email I have sent to the management Fullers. Avoid this place at all costs! (I have never written a review like this before - I tend to think that hotel staff are "doing their best". I'm afraid I didn't think this here.)
I need to complain most strongly about a 2 night stay in The Crown Inn, Bishop's Waltham.
We booked it thinking it would be a good place to take some friends for dinner whist on our trip South from Yorkshire.
We had booked two dinners, one for 3 people and one for 5 people on the Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
On the Tuesday afternoon, just 3 hours before our booking we were informed that there was a "problem with the kitchen" and they had to cancel our two bookings.
Strangely they could still provide our two booked breakfasts.
The room was lovely, but the floor was rather covered in fluff, we noticed at once that the waste plug in the washbasin wouldn't work properly.
We coped with it that night and then the next morning there was no hot water!
We were told that the gas had tripped and it would be sorted.
We reported the washbasin problem and was told that would be sorted.
The room was not serviced during the day.
We were told when we left that we should have requested the room service, but we hadn't been told this.
So we didn't get any replacement coffee. tea, or water.
Also the water in the washbasin was still cold and the waste tap had still not been repaired by the evening the same day.
The water was still cold that night and in the morning and the washbasin had still not been repaired.
When we complained we were told that it is an old building and we should expect some problems!
Fortunately the shower was presumably electric as it worked well.
On the positive side we had four excellent breakfasts, but the service was rather slow.
It was useful to be able to recharge our electric vehicle overnight.
We paid £318 for these two nights, but did feel that we should be eligible for some sort of refund as this is hardly the sort of accommodation we would expect for that price.

I urge you to take a look a closer look at the reviews for this Fullers establishment. Note the number of 5* reviews from individuals who have left a total of 0-5 reviews (the FTART, or "Fullers Trip Advisor Remediation Team"), vs the number of review from genuine punters that are 1-2*.
This afternoon myself and my team visited The Crown in Bishops Waltham for a business meeting and were unfortunately on the receiving end of the single worst hospitality experience any of us can remember.
From the moment we entered the rather lovely building to the moment we joyously exited, the two members of staff on shift (there was no senior Front of House person in sight), were the two rudest and most astonishingly disrespectful individuals I have encountered in any hospitality scenario.
A very brief synopsis; we were greeted with genuine and significant disdain by the barman upon arrival. His solitary colleague was equally discourteous.
The barrels needed changing for almost every beer on tap (there were less than 10 people in the bar).
One of our sandwiches was utterly stale (think "crouton"). Said sandwich wasn't taken off our bill, no discount was offered and we had to ask to speak to the manager before this was eventually deducted.
Every single staff encounter we had was a miserable (to the point of laughable), experience.
Overall, the attitude of the staff throughout was the most appalling any of us have encountered in any hospitality setting and we shall certainly not be returning.
I urge you, if you are visiting the area and until things hopefully improve, to visit one of the many, many private or brewery owned establishments within a very short drive of Bishops Waltham; Durley, Upham, Swanmore, Exton, Wickham are all within a 10 minute drive and offer the most wonderful of country pubs where you won't be treated as an inconvenience.
The Crown is an enviable Fullers tenancy in an supremely enviable location and this establishment is not being done justice. For now, take your money elsewhere.

Visited with friends to sample the recent refurb. Limited beer with London Pride off and no local guest beer ie standard average fullers line up. Bar was lively with plenty of customers but at last orders staff became rude in their drive to clear the bar well ahead of time; likely in the pursuit of a quieter last few minutes and an early finish. Pub has great potential but with staff not focussed on their customers or quality food and drink they will certainly lose out to more local friendly independent boozers.

Hello Susan,
Thank you for booking with us and I can tell you our rooms are not cookie cutter rooms (we have no choice there as being a listed building, from the 5ft doors, crooked floors and history in each room) I have spoken to the taxi company and they have informed me that a taxi to the port will be £35, we can book this for you when you check in.
hope this helps, if you do have anymore questions then please do get back in touch.
Kind Regards
Kenny Dryden
