Oualie is a really great place to stay and relax, if you don't mind that the hotel is a little bit shabby around the edges. The beach and the bay here are superb, and the views are just lovely, both the view from the cottages, which all look out over the bay, and the view when you are in the bay looking back at the land. The water in Oualie Bay is without waves, and thus it is very good for people who don't swim well.

The grounds are kept very nicely with lots of tropical flowers, especially considering there is only one gardener for a very large area! There is a lot of nature here, and a lot of wildlife, including many monkeys who come twice a day to hang out and eat the Noni fruit.

The grounds area also visited by charming brown cows, a few goats, a few sheep and the occasional donkey.

The hotels seems to have fixed their WiFi, which was a problem in the past.

The rooms are meticulously cleaned, and if anything is not working right they will generally be able to fix it the very next day. However, the hot water is provided by solar power, so if you get two or three overcast and rainy days in a row, then you won't really have any hot water to speak of.

Most of the staff here are just lovely people, although it is true that one or two of the front desk staff don't entirely know how to smile and be welcoming.

The bar is small, but very charming and breezy. The restaurant is also attractive, but the food is expensive and generally not inspiring.

Oualie Beach Resort is a small old-fashioned hotel on a really great sandy beach, which is situated in a quiet and very picturesque bay in the northeast corner of Nevis. The hotel grounds are dotted with a lot of native trees, as well as other flowering trees and bushes, and the grounds are visited by a lot of butterflies, as well as by green monkeys, attractive brown cows, a few donkeys, and some sheep.

The hotel quiet although it is not far away from the main road, and that is convenient for catching buses to get you into town or to get around anywhere else in the island very cheaply. The hotel itself is very West Indian, and it is not glamorous or upscale, but it is welcoming andhas everything you need, and the staff are lovely people, especially the ladies who clean the rooms every day.

The bay see is very quiet, and it usually has no waves at all, and therefore it is great for children to play in the water and sand.

There is a scuba place (Scuba Safaris) right there on the bay, as well as a bicycle rental place, a sailing place, and I think other attractions too.

There is a relatively new concrete pier in the bay, on which every day a whole series of water taxis arrive and depart, going to and from Reggae Beach (Cockleshell Bay) on the next-door island of St. Kitts. The water taxi company can arrange for you to catch a regular taxi from there to go anywhere on St. Kitts.

The water taxi is very fast and is reasonably priced.

One great thing is that the Oualie Beach Resort hotel rooms now have really great connectivity, which was not the case for many years.

The kitchenettes are quite well designed, although they are not always fully equipped, but if you are short of dishes or cutlery you can ask the restaurant to lend you more items.

The hotel bar is small but quite charming, and if you are lucky you may run into one or both of the hotel cats there.

This was our 3rd visit to Nevis. The reason we chose Oualie Beach this time is because even though we stayed in other locations on previous visits, we would always spend at least one day on the beautiful beach at Oualie. The location and beach is just one of the best on the island. The hotel is older and in need of simple maintenance. Our room was comfortable, large and had wonderful views of the beach. We had to request a room safe upon arrival which was installed the next morning. Our in-room phone did not work but was repaired the next morning as well. Our hot water worked great but our neighbor said they never had hot water during their 5 day stay. The restaurant was better than we expected and the staff was very pleasant and attentive. They have wonderful steel drum music a couple of nights per week. There were many monkeys, sheep, a few donkeys and even some cows that visited the property regularly and were so much fun to watch. We really enjoyed our stay at Oualie Beach and I feel that with some simple maintenance, updates and touch-up paint it could receive 5 star ratings instead of 4 star. We would definitely stay here again.

we checked out after one night as this hotel is certainly nothing like it is portrayed on it’s website & other booking sites. It certainly needs lots of tlc to get it back to the 3 * hotel it once was. The rooms need full refurbs (remove rusty old fridges), sun loungers and outside furniture all needs replacing and the bar needs a good clean. It would be suitable for back packers and students. Evening meal was ok, but, breakfast was poor.

We are disappointed that you did not fall in love with our little beach front Resort. Most of our guests rave about our superb beach front location, our excellent service, affordable prices and tasty meals. In fact we have recently been awarded international recognition under the hospitality assured program for our excellent service and standards. You are correct that our rooms are not as luxurious as the 5 star properties like Marriott and Park Hyatt, but our prices are very affordable. Thank you for pointing out the areas of concern, we shall be addressing them immediately. We do hope that you will give us another opportunity to host you as we are confident that you too will fall in love with our affordable authentic Caribbean style Beach Resort.

We’ve just left Oualie Beach, my second time staying there and unfortunately it will be my last. The beach hut we stayed in Mahoe Reef is set in an idyllic setting on the beach a few meters from lovely soft sand and the beautiful ocean looking over to St Kitts. The hut consists of a double bedroom with ensuite, there is A/C but the wall unit leaked water all over the floor. The TV was not working and despite a request for the front desk to sort out the problem it wasn’t attended to during our stay. We tried to make a coffee with the machine supplied but it was dirty and there was no milk. The floors beneath the bed had obviously not been cleaned in a while.
At the time we booked in we were told a film crew were using part of the premises to film an action movie and when we were shown to our room two noisy generators were operating just outside our window, this was not the nice quiet resort I remembered from 2019. The icing on the cake was a letter we discovered left in the room informing us that the dining room would be closing early that evening and not reopening for two days with no alternative for food and when we approached staff they were very unhelpful. We had booked over nine months ago surely they could have sent an email prior to our arrival to allow us to make other arrangements? The whole resort is run down, the huts are in need of renovation and what we experienced of the management was below par. A very disappointing stay at Oualie.

We love Oualie Beach Resort (OBR) and we go there every year in spring for up to four weeks.

Don't choose this hotel if you want to be pampered in luxury. There are a lot of more expensive places to stay on Nevis, if you feel you really need a more luxurious and ritzy setting.

OBR is West Indian in both style and function. If something in your room is broken, or really needs fixing in some other way, just tell the front desk and they will send someone to repair it or fix it within a day or two. Yes, a lot of the buildings could use a new coat of paint here and there, but that should not affect your enjoyment of the place.

My husband and I need a room with a kitchenette because of our dietary restrictions; fortunately for us, there are two of those rooms at Oualie.

We love to swim in the bay, and I love to walk the grounds and photograph the flowers and other wildlife. The main road is close enough to make it easy to catch a bus, but it is far enough away to be quiet, and the far end of the Resort is far enough away from the Restaurant that you don't hear music on nights when there is music being played in the bar.

The staff are all lovely people, and very helpful.

Let me start out by saying I have never visited this hotel; however, I did book a three nights stay for June 2020. I booked the hotel directly in January 2020; but as things became more dire with the virus, I cancelled the reservation in April, which was well within their cancellation policy period. After a month of no refund, I had to get my credit card company involved. I had already contacted the owner, property manager and advertising director by email, with no replies. After two months during which my credit card company gave them ample time to reply to my dispute, they never replied. Thankfully, I’ve just been given a permanent credit for that cancellation and the hotel has done a charge back to the hotel. If there is any chance you might not be able to keep your reservation, stay away!

I made a reservation for Oualie Beach Resort and paid a 50% deposit per their reservation policy. Unfortunately my trip plans for Dec '22-Jan '23 changed and I emailed requesting a cancellation and refund, well in advance of the necessary cancellation time frame. After a week with no response, I called to check the status of the cancellation. I was given a confirmation number and requested a copy via email, which I received 8/22. The email notes my refund will be processed "In the coming weeks". Weeks? Ok whatever. Fast forward a few weeks and still no refund, so I reach out to follow up. The owner asked if they could refund half now and half in a few days. Given the delays, I had serious concerns taking a two payment refund in case there were allegations it had been refunded. So I requested the refund in full, which I was told would be processed. Another 5 days have passed I still have not received a refund. It's now been a month since I emailed my initial request to cancel. I'll be reaching out to my cc company since this business has not refunded the deposit. It's apparent why other reviews state the resort is run down. I get that not every business survived the impact of the pandemic, but then maybe it's time to reevaluate your life situation. Sorry you're broke but that's not my problem. Send me my money.

My friend and I stayed at this property for 3 nights while visiting the island. The rooms were cozy with a great view of the sea. We slept well due to quiet and great A/C Unfortunately we didn't see any wildlife monkeys etc) like other guests have possibly due to the intermittent rain. Bring your own toiletries as they only provide body wash, shampoo and a bar of soap. There on yoga classes available on certain days on the property. It is advertised on the website but for some reason not shared again at check in which I think would be a nice reminder especially if people booked in advance. A few restaurants a short drive away if you would like variety. Service at the hotels' restaurant is decent but slow as with all restaurants on the island. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the island.

Stayed here for two weeks from January to February and had a lovely peaceful, relaxing break. This is a basic 3* shabby chic hotel, but it's clean, on a nice peaceful beach and is a friendly place to stay. It was very quiet especially in the evenings, and the bar closed very early.
We didn't hire a car, we used Ozzy regularly to drive us out in the evenings to eat, and to other beaches. Ozzy was lovely and sooooo reliable, we can highly recommend. Oualie is about a 15 -18 minute drive to Charles Town, and is conveniently close to Reef and Luna resteraunts, which we can highly recommend. Sadly The Gin Trap wasn't open nearby (next time hopefully)!
We thoroughly enjoyed music night on Tuesday nights, where locals and ex-pats all joined in for a lively night.
Nevis is the friendliest Island, and it was so nice bumping into familiar friendly faces as we ate at different resteraunts around the island. Live music at Reef, Luna and Yachtsman was very enjoyable.
I would return to Oualie and Nevis on a heartbeat

From memory breakfast was 16USD per person (I just took my own breakfast cereal as fridge in every room for milk etc) Lunch and dinner menu was reasonable which (again from memory) was c.20USD each for lunch and between 25/30USD for dinner All excluded drinks... I also think Qualie do a "all inclusive" rate which might be worth checking out. Cracking old school style laid back hotel tho'

Oualie Beach has 32 rooms of which only two have kitchenettes. These are called "studio rooms" and have a 4 burner propane stove and fridge. There is a queen size mahogany four poster bed and a small seating area with a couch and a dining table. As there are only two such rooms they are often reserved way in advance. Please check our website for availability and book early!

Hi Kate, Whenever you decide to dine out away from Oualie there are many lovely restaurants on Nevis to choose from. Most of them are priced about 20-30% higher than Oualie Beach Restaurant, except for some of the nice really local places like "Passions" . Gin Trap is very nice and is convenient located about 10 minutes walk away. Wines at Oualie vary from about US$26 to US$50/bottle.

Anyone got any tips on either Nevis only tours or day trips to St Kitts? Thx
Answer from Mike C

You can snorkel, if fit you can climb Nevis peak but it is an island to relax on, it is no an activity island, although chartering a boat is great if there are a few of you. There is a safari tour but I haven't been on it. St Kitts has much more to offer, Brimstone Fort is well worth a visit, there is a train that travels the coast/mountains and likely much more. We go to Nevis because it is quiet and there is not much to do. Enjoy your trip
