We stayed for 4 nights at the Oualie Resort during Thanksgiving and was very disappointed with both the accommodations and food. Our cottage is best described as shabby (toilet falling apart and leaking, windows not operable due to broken cranks, ill fitting screens). Food was mediocre and not always eatable. There are many fine restaurants nearby.

I made a reservation for Oualie Beach Resort and paid a 50% deposit per their reservation policy. Unfortunately my trip plans for Dec '22-Jan '23 changed and I emailed requesting a cancellation and refund, well in advance of the necessary cancellation time frame. After a week with no response, I called to check the status of the cancellation. I was given a confirmation number and requested a copy via email, which I received 8/22. The email notes my refund will be processed "In the coming weeks". Weeks? Ok whatever. Fast forward a few weeks and still no refund, so I reach out to follow up. The owner asked if they could refund half now and half in a few days. Given the delays, I had serious concerns taking a two payment refund in case there were allegations it had been refunded. So I requested the refund in full, which I was told would be processed. Another 5 days have passed I still have not received a refund. It's now been a month since I emailed my initial request to cancel. I'll be reaching out to my cc company since this business has not refunded the deposit. It's apparent why other reviews state the resort is run down. I get that not every business survived the impact of the pandemic, but then maybe it's time to reevaluate your life situation. Sorry you're broke but that's not my problem. Send me my money.

We’ve just left Oualie Beach, my second time staying there and unfortunately it will be my last. The beach hut we stayed in Mahoe Reef is set in an idyllic setting on the beach a few meters from lovely soft sand and the beautiful ocean looking over to St Kitts. The hut consists of a double bedroom with ensuite, there is A/C but the wall unit leaked water all over the floor. The TV was not working and despite a request for the front desk to sort out the problem it wasn’t attended to during our stay. We tried to make a coffee with the machine supplied but it was dirty and there was no milk. The floors beneath the bed had obviously not been cleaned in a while. At the time we booked in we were told a film crew were using part of the premises to film an action movie and when we were shown to our room two noisy generators were operating just outside our window, this was not the nice quiet resort I remembered from 2019. The icing on the cake was a letter we discovered left in the room informing us that the dining room would be closing early that evening and not reopening for two days with no alternative for food and when we approached staff they were very unhelpful. We had booked over nine months ago surely they could have sent an email prior to our arrival to allow us to make other arrangements? The whole resort is run down, the huts are in need of renovation and what we experienced of the management was below par. A very disappointing stay at Oualie.

I have been coming to this property for about 10 years with students. This is the first time I have come on vacation. It sits on the picturesque Caribbean Sea with a view of St Kitts. The water taxi pier is next door maki g it so convenient to get here. The staff are wonderful! They are knowledgeable, accommodating and very professional. This is my go-to happy place. Walk out of your door..look out your window and take in the quiet. I find great delight in the free range livestock. Unplug and book your trip immediately. I am booking my return before I leave.

Nice quiet resort on Oualie Beach Nevis. Nice little cottage only steps from the beach. Easy check in. They brought our luggage over from the ferry from St Kitts. Beautiful beach. Housekeeping staff are very friendly. The restaurant is a hidden gem on Nevis! The grounds are well maintained. The prices are fair. You might even see some donkeys, monkeys, and sheep wander around.

I have never looked at Oualie when we were scheduled originally to visit St Kitts & Nevis back in April 2020 but things changed since then... our original hotel at Nisbet Plantation shut down... so when I came across an amazing deal for Oualie decided to give it a shot despite some of the comments here on TripAdivsor about the TLC needed - I couldn't emphasize how glad I am, we are! (my wife was very hesitant based on the reviews here as well) that we stayed at Oualie! I love travelling and always look forward to a new place and I have to admit; it's been a while since I was sad leaving a place... definitely enjoyed our time at Oualie over those 5 days here and here is the reasons why: Location: the resort is directly on the Oualie Beach! It's not as pretty as Pinneys Beach but it's still a wonderful beach and here you have it all to yourself as barely anybody visits it and if something you end up seeing people on the far end of the bay where the ferry terminal is (which I think is also an added bonus since you can literally walk to that terminal without a taxi). You face west so perfect for sunsets and views of St Kitts. We arrived on the Sea Bridge (car ferry) which was a super easy under 5 minutes drive - if you fly into NEV airport then you would drive under 5 minutes from the opposite direction - arrival simply can get any easier :) Nevis is overall small and you drive in one bigger circle so nothing is really far though the west side of the island is definitely where you want to be - sunsets, calmer waters, short drive to Charlestown and many south/southwest points of interest for restaurants and attractions. Room: we had the King Premier room - on the way from the lobby I did notice many buildings needing some TLC (ironically during our stay some of them were getting some paint job and it was a night and day difference, such a simple thing!) and I started doubting myself for a second but then we made it to the room - big bed, comfy, traditional Caribbean furniture in perfectly fine shape, Netflix, WiFi (was spotty even though each room has its own router, so we ended up connecting tot he room directly above us without an issue) , huge shower and bathroom - nothing luxurious but perfectly fine and in good shape. The patio with a screened/netted views amazing in the evenings for lazy sunset and mornings to see the monkeys roaming around - a couple got to us super closer twice, super cool experience! Those big sunbeds on the patio = you can sleep in them, I feel asleep on evening :) There is a small fridge in the room for cooling down beer/drinks, maybe some food leftovers but no microwave in the unit we had. The safe was there but dead and looked like broken too - didn't bother me to be honest but removing it completely would probably leave a better impression :) all plus were USA type of outlets so no converters needed Hotel Grounds: it's basically a series of single level and double level houses spread along the coast line - all ocean view (it appeared to me), with patios, there is an excellent restaurant and bar on the spot, some nice vegetation and beach chairs for the ocean front, couple hammocks, some picnic tables - the vegetation is very cozy and the big trees provide plenty of needed shade in the afternoon - during our April stay it was extremely windy so it was lovely to sit on under those trees and listen to the ocean waves and leaves/branches on the trees moved by the wind - soooooooo relaxing! Donkeys visit from time to time, so do monkeys! Tones of fun :) Beach: Check my separate review on the Oualie Beach for pictures and details - donkeys, green monkeys, birds, palm trees, turtles in the water! It's a full package so don't judge the book by its cover as you will miss out on the best what this beach has to offer vs Pinneys - they are just 2 different worlds. Also, here at Oualie you have it at your finger tips vs. Pinney you need to drive - mornings and evenings on this beach = so peaceful, so relaxing! There is plenty of sea grass (not to confuse with the sea weed which wasn't an issue at all during our stay while the entire East Coasts of both St Kitts and Nevis were invaded by it during that same time) which the turtles feed on - so one time I bumped into a turtle in the water, very unexpected and joyful moment for certain! The water can be very pretty from time to time when closer but most of the time this is not the picturesque type of beach - it's the good old fun type of one :) more for the joyful soul than the eye! If it's not what you desire from a beach Pinneys is a super easy 10 minute drive along the coast heading south. Food & Restaurants: those Johnny Cakes!!!! that salt fish! The breakfasts at Oualie were amazing!!! Homemade cooking, with a view, wonderful service, and soooooo reasonably priced! What an exceptional value! We had also a wonderful dinner here and their Nevisian Rum Punch is outstanding too! So dont waste your time in the morning and stick around for every breakfast - trust me been there done that and we regretted we "wasted one breakfast outside". For lunch and dinner there are some great options on Nevis so do give them a shot as well - Drift by the NEV airport, Sunshines on Pinneys, Bananas in Hamilton Estate, The Golden Rock & Montpelier in the south - all wonderful experiences. Things to do: Nevis is "much slower" than St Kitts, and there isn't that much here to do and although at first I thought maybe 3 nights would be to much I loved the fact we stayed 4 and I could have spent even more, in particular because I enjoyed just relaxing at Oualie so much! So that is your first thing I would recommend - relax, enjoy, unwind - Oualie is a perfect place for that. If you do however like doing things then take a driver to the NEw River Estate (some ruins), visit the plantation/mill houses with their restaurants (lunch+sighseeting combo) at the Golden Rock & Montpelier, check out the Nevis Botanical Gardens, spend some time on Pinneys and get KillerBee or two from Sunshine's :) check out Mark's Clifton Rum Estate tour and his L&L shop - it's definitely not as big list as on St Kitts but plenty still to do if you just dont want to be at the resort all day! I have reviewed all spots we visited here so hopefuly you can use some of that info to plan your end - I definitely did benefit from reading other people's info while planning Nevis in particular as there is not that much info out there on it for some strange reason. Overall: Oualie was a wonderful place, truly wonderful people and a wonderful memory for life - I actually get pretty touched when I think of it... we visited during my birthday week and this was something in the making for 2 years, never ever in my life I envisioned and anticipated that I would love Nevis so much and it's not a maybe, but actually for certain due to Oualie Beach Resort - it by no means was not the fanciest and luxurious place I have stayed in but it was one of the best times I had ever and that will always remain a special place in my heart - thank you from the bottom of that happy heart! :)

After our original hotel in Nevis "lost" our reservation for our wedding night, we visited the Oualie Beach Resort the morning of our wedding to see if they had any rooms available. They were so accommodating and found us a king room for that night. They even decorated the room with silk flowers, and swan and heart towels. The view from our room was breathtaking! They really saved the day for us!

Oualie Beach Resort is a small old-fashioned hotel on a really great sandy beach, which is situated in a quiet and very picturesque bay in the northeast corner of Nevis. The hotel grounds are dotted with a lot of native trees, as well as other flowering trees and bushes, and the grounds are visited by a lot of butterflies, as well as by green monkeys, attractive brown cows, a few donkeys, and some sheep. The hotel quiet although it is not far away from the main road, and that is convenient for catching buses to get you into town or to get around anywhere else in the island very cheaply. The hotel itself is very West Indian, and it is not glamorous or upscale, but it is welcoming andhas everything you need, and the staff are lovely people, especially the ladies who clean the rooms every day. The bay see is very quiet, and it usually has no waves at all, and therefore it is great for children to play in the water and sand. There is a scuba place (Scuba Safaris) right there on the bay, as well as a bicycle rental place, a sailing place, and I think other attractions too. There is a relatively new concrete pier in the bay, on which every day a whole series of water taxis arrive and depart, going to and from Reggae Beach (Cockleshell Bay) on the next-door island of St. Kitts. The water taxi company can arrange for you to catch a regular taxi from there to go anywhere on St. Kitts. The water taxi is very fast and is reasonably priced. One great thing is that the Oualie Beach Resort hotel rooms now have really great connectivity, which was not the case for many years. The kitchenettes are quite well designed, although they are not always fully equipped, but if you are short of dishes or cutlery you can ask the restaurant to lend you more items. The hotel bar is small but quite charming, and if you are lucky you may run into one or both of the hotel cats there.

This resort has a beautiful bayside setting, with great views of St Kitts and a really nice sandy beach! We enjoyed their food, music and bar many days throughout our stay. GG & Michelle are exceptional members of their staff. John, one of the family owners, is also an awesome “old rocker” who plays in a band there on Tuesday evenings !!

We stayed here as a base for the Nevis St Kitts swim which starts from the beach. The gingerbread cottages are very comfortable and clean. Surroundings are very relaxing, and the restaurant bar will keep you full of rice’n’peas and rum punch. With the wonderful weather what more do you need?
