Following is my review broken down into key categories:

Hosts and Property Management:
Daviana (and her husband Manuel) are amazing hosts. Although we did not meet in person we communicated via WhatsApp and /or Airbnb and I found them to be very accessible, pleasant, and accommodating. Any issues we had with the penthouse were taken care of quickly and efficiently. The super host ranking is very well deserved!!

Bertho the manager of the property is great. He is Daviana’s property maintenance/manager who lives on the property, and the person who took care of everything that was needed.

Location:
Chateau del Mar is in a fantastic location, less than 100 steps from the beach. It is also within walking distance of many great restaurants, a supermarket/mini mart and even a small slot machine casino.

One important thing to note is that there is A LOT of new builds/ construction around the Chateau making the road a hazard and quite messy. Also, when it rains the road right in front of the Chateau turns into a mini lake. (No drainage /sewers). Do not bring nice shoes as they will be ruined by the dust, mud, and water.

The Penthouse:
Check in was seamless and love the fact that it is a keypad lock so no need to worry about keys. The star of this property is the rooftop pool terrace. We spent most of our time there enjoying the pool, and the beautiful ocean views. The wicker patio furniture and cushions are not only attractive but also extremely comfortable!

The living /dining room/kitchen area is spacious and the huge TV with firestick was great. The kitchen was well equipped for all our needs.

The bedrooms are nice with comfortable mattresses and pillows and white crisp bedding that was changed weekly by the cleaning staff. Nice bathrooms with large walk-in showers.

What’s Included:
Water cooler with 8L gallon of water that is replenished when empty. Just call Bertho and within minutes we had water!

Toilet paper, paper towels, dish washing soap and hand liquid soap is supplied on arrival and replenished when needed.

Electricity

Air conditioners in main living area as well as each of the three bedrooms, that worked well at cooling the spaces.

Wi-Fi – which was GREAT! On any given day we had 6 devices on the Wi-Fi with people working remotely, taking video calls and we had no issues at all!

What could be improved:
Given we loved our stay these are just suggestions that would take it from very good to excellent!

The penthouse would benefit from a “refresh”: a fresh coat of paint, fresh caulking on all windows, sliding doors and showers, brighter lighting and/or vanity mirrors in bathrooms, a new toilet in terrace bathroom, railing on pool stairs.

The overall building and its staircase could also use a paint job. Also, the laundry room/area could use a “makeover.”

Highly recommend!

Daviana Is wonderful, The place looks even much better in person it was clean the staff was friendly and Berto especially was an amazing he was very helpful in guiding us around and had great recommendations for places to go and eat or adventure. The host has her own guidebook which was also helpful I visit a few of those places and I didn’t regret it. if you’re thinking about coming to Punta Cana this is the best place to come you won’t regret it you’ll love the experience we’re on the beach and everything is so close by one or five-minute walk. The host Was helpful in finding Transportation and Covid testiing, and etc. Thank you so much for going above and beyond for my friends and I we had a great time.

Travelling on a family group, we stayed for a weekend at "Chateau del Mar Ocean Villa", at the "Playa Bávaro" in Punta Cana. We enjoyed our stay and have no complaints at all. The room was nice, clean and comfortable, as were the bathroom facilities. It offered us then a nice relation between costs and benefits. Besides that, "Chateau del Mar Ocean Villa" is fantastically located and the white sands of "Playa Bávaro" are just a few steps away. Enjoy!

I wish I could give 0 stars. This place is an absolute dump! I don’t even know where to start and I assume most of these reviews are fake. First and foremost it’s located on a random side street that was flooded with dark brown foul smelling sewage. The beach that’s near by is also not nice at all. Lots of seaweed, bad smell, etc. They clearly haven’t done any maintenance on this property at all. It looks nothing like the pictures online. Everything is dingy and worn. Furniture had rips in it. Power would go out. The rooms were beyond bare minimal. No tv in my bedroom just a hole where the wiring used to be. Security is non existent. The toilet seat was broken. The shower had mold. They just have codes for the room, that you can’t change and are pretty basic. It was so unacceptable that I left after day 1 and went to a nearby resort. Do not even consider staying here if it’s free. Thank me later. Also all of the pictures they post online are from years ago

There is no beach. No washer, no dryer. Beds are old and stained. No housekeeping. Emptied our own garbage. Staff seem uninterested in helping in any way. Pool is cold. Barbed wire and garbage was a view. Photo on website is resort next door. HOt tub has been broken since 2016.

We came to this place expecting a 5-star villa, based on the rate per night, pictures and description of the place. Boy, were we disappointed. We stayed in a 3 bedroom villa. The place is nice, don't get me wrong, but it's a far cry from a 5-star villa. There is a lack of attention to details, broken door handles, the closet in one of the rooms was literally on the floor; the modular structure was broken, leaving no place to hang clothes in one of the rooms. One of the smaller rooms had a night table with a lamp, but no outlet to plug the lamp in. For a place that is new, the comforters were stained and there were no sheets on the bed. The bathroom had humidity spots in the wall and the paint was cracked and falling on the floor. The guys at the desk were really nice and tried to solve the problems, but I don't expect to come on vacation and have to point out what needs to be fixed in the room. The place really needs to have serious maintenance done before saying they're luxury villas.

We had booked a 2 night stay in a two bedroom apartment in December.
We landed in Punta Cana at about 9.00PM and checked in. The apartment was absolutely disgusting - sheets looked grimy like they hadn't been washed/changed for weeks, dust all over the place and a terrible mouldy/musty smell.

Reached out to the hotel management on WhatsApp as none of them were available at the property to address the issue. They clearly didn't care and did not even offer an alternate room, nor were they apologetic.

We decided not to ruin our holiday and booked another hotel even though it was late at night and left within 30 mins of our arrival here.

Eventually, the hotel offered no apology or refund. We ended up losing the entire cost of the stay which we had already paid for and also paid a higher price for the other hotel last minute.

These guys don't care about something as basic as cleanliness, don't take customer complaints seriously. They just want to make money without getting the basics right.

Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. I would never recommend this dump!

We recently stayed at the Chateau Del Mar and were impressed right off the bat at the property and the condition of the apartment. We absolutely felt right at home and it was very comfortable there. Initially when we looked at Punta Cana we were looking solely at all inclusive resorts, but the prices of many of the resorts were a turn off as well as the negative reviews. We happened to see Chateau Del Mar on Tripadvisor and we just knew we had to stay here, the experience of staying here and feeling like a local was great.

We had a one bedroom apartment and it was so spacious, love the decor and the accents. And the patio was amazing, nice view out to the pool and bar area. Chateau Del Mar is in a great location, walking distance to a small local market and a strip with a number of good restaurants. We picked up water and other small groceries items from the store, we cooked dinner in twice during our stay. The kitchen was stocked well with pots, utensils and dishes. The hotel manage Freddy was great from start to finish, whenever we needed a cab ride he would arrange it. And anything else we needed he would take care of us, we even got to meet his beautiful family one day. There was also an onsite bar at Chateau Del Mar, Willian the bartender was great and drinks were at a great price.

I mentioned that there are a number of good restaurants in walking distance, they are definitely worth a try. Dalia's Cafe has great breakfast and pastries, Citrus is great for lunch and dinner, and I would highly recommend Don Pio. We ate at Don Pio on our last full day and wished we had chosen to eat there sooner.

The location of the beach from Chateau Del Mar is great, less than a minute walk and it is absolutely beautiful. And another plus about the beach is there are plenty of chairs and it was never crowded. Right on the beach there is a bar called Canoa where you get free breakfast as part of your stay at Chateau Del Mar.

If you are the type that likes a nice, quiet and relaxing stay and love to explore the island, meet the locals and eat local cuisine then Chateau Del Mar is the place for you. We will definitely be back and will make sure we stay here. Highly recommend this place, thanks again Freddy!

We booked this hotel for the last two nights in DR, expecting an amazing experience based on what we read on the website and some of the reviews here. Unfortunately, it has been one disappointment after another. First off, this is not an ocean-front resort. It is not far from the beach, but it does not have access to the beach (you need to get out of the so-called hotel and walk down the street to the beach. Service is NON-EXISTENT! We had to call to get drinking water in the penthouse. And pay the delivery guy 70 pesos. After we shelled US$ 800+ for two nights. No beach towel, unless you asked for them. The pool was disgustingly dirty. No restaurant. Breakfast was provided at 9:30am once the cook showed up and made a spanish tortilla that did not look that appetizing. And they forgot coffee.
So when the website talks about luxury ocean from property, they are not exactly telling the truth. There is no luxury! There is no ocean front. We ended calling the manager to complain. And suddenly, the pool is being cleaned, the clerk brought back the 70 pesos for the water.
So, I would not recommend anyone to stay in this place. Do not make the mistake we made!

Just returned from 5 nights at the Chateau del Mar. It was a last minute booking but no problems with that; Manuel (the owner) took the reservation over the phone late on a Saturday night and confirmed everything via email. He also arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the airport which we really appreciated as we were able to breeze past the many taxi drivers vying for business when you get off the plane. The apartment was wonderful. Very clean and well appointed. Two minute walk to a beautiful beach and a bar/restaurant that also serves the included breakfast to guests of the Chateau del Mar. Take your beach towels, stake out some chairs and stay for the day (but be reasonable, it's only fair if using the chairs to order some food/drink from the bar...Rosie, Judith and Ruth, the servers are wonderful and worked hard to help us with our Spanish skills). There are several other restaurants in walking distance and a small grocery store. Highly recommend the Citrus restaurant and there is a great Indian restaurant just beyond that. In the opposite direction and a slightly longer walk is Ca Javi where we had a fabulous meal. Avoid the Hurricane Bar that is on the beach further down; as others' have reviewed, the prices are high and the wait staff poorly trained. We highly recommend Chateau del Mar. Manuel is so helpful with reservations, cabs, recommendations and local info. Willian, who works the bar is also great.

NO, and there are no chairs whatsoever unless you go down to the Canoa restaurant down an alley way and put your towel on a chair early in the am. It would require you, at least, having the complimentary breakfast there as well (via the chateau). The beach chairs are in horrible disrepair with no other options.
