We came back yesterday from a week at the Tropical Deluxe Princess with our 3 kids from child to teen and had a great time. I definitely recommend this resort. I don't know how some people can leave bad reviews. -- The vegetation is beautiful. -- The buffet has a lot of room for seating, is not that repetitive, and there's always something you can enjoy. I personally loved the fish. Had it twice a day! The omelettes are made to taste and the pasta was pretty good too. Fresh fruit at every meal, good dessert choice. Not everything was good, granted, but enough choice. -- The room was comfortable, if very humid. Nothing dries there. Air conditioning worked. TV didn't have good quality sound or image, or wide choice of channels, so we didn't watch it. Always had hot water in the shower, though the design is questionable (leaks on the outside and into the toilet side next to it. -- Bring US one-dollar bills for tipping. We tipped everywhere. Buffet, drinks, maids. -- If you need something for your room, write it on a note (towels, pillow case, water or pop bottles, extra blankets). Google can translate anything. -- The personnel, for the vast majority, was agreeable. -- We are right next to the beach and there are frequent "trains" to take us to the reception area (7-10 min walk), which has the theatre and some restaurants and the boutique. We bought a set of sand toys and inflatable ducky that went around the waist of my youngest one. Totally worth it. We'd brought her life jacket, and with that, she was able to "ride" the waves and had much fun. -- Lots of wildlife onsite. We fed bread to the turtles. Kids loved it. -- It was super easy to make reservations for à la carte restaurants. I was able to book 5 suppers, but cancelled one because we were enjoying our day and wanted to eat later. The Italian is overall skippable - pizza not good, lasagna good but small, seafood pasta good; the Brazilian is an experience not to be missed if you eat meat!; the Asian was ok; Mexican was good but small portions. -- We did snorkelling with SeaPro and it was fun. Coral looks like it's rotting but there are plenty of different fish. Even saw a sea urchin the size of a soccer ball! -- The beach is cleaned daily with trucks, so no piles of seaweed. Lots of waves to play in. My kids could spend nearly 2 hours at a time in it. No fish or anything in the water at the beach. Sand is super soft. Water is warm. Pool water was also warm. -- Drinks at the bars were ok. -- A special mention to Alexandra at the kids club (and her colleagues) for entertaining the young ones. She even was animating a kids dance time on the stage near the reception for 3 evenings. -- Kids enjoyed the waterpark. -- Employees are multitalented, as on the Tuesday, there was a Dominican show and the dancers were the same employees watching your kids or making your omelettes. Pretty entertaining show. There were 7-8 outfit changes. -- Internet was on and off. -- Most employees spoke English, and some even spoke French. Even better if you already speak Spanish! -- The resort is clean; restaurants, buffet, poolside, etc. - The teen club is underwhelming; basically two pool tables, a connect 4 table and a room with beanbags and a screen. Though it was fun to play pool anyway. -- There were vendors with tables only one day, which I appreciated. Those on the beach aren't annoying and are few. There was alway security at the beach and at the kids waterpark. -- Pools and beach close at dark, so around 6:30. -- Included transportation from the airport to the resort took an hour due to thick traffic - not the 25-minute ride announced. -- There were next to no mosquitos. I might have seen 3. Very few flies too, but a lot more after it had rained. -- One smart thing about the buffet is that although the dining room is not enclosed with walls (there are ceiling fans), the part where you get the food has automatic glass doors to keep the place cool, and the food fresh. -- All in all, whether you go with or without kids, this is a great resort. And kids weren't loud or in the way. Not the party place, though. Would I go back? Yes…
