I planned a very last minute surprise bday trip for my husband especially given the current pandemic. Arrived at Melia and was greeted with eager staff to assist us with planning our restaurant reservations and excursions. While waiting to check in at the Level we met Eduardo who was completely EXCELLENT. His first suggestion was the rum tasting and cigar making which was a complete hit. My husband loves cigars and he enjoyed making his own (free excursion, you pay for what you buy at the gift shop and pickup and drop off FREE). Eduardo didn’t stop, he picked us up for dinners, worked with the spa to try to get us a couple massage. Our last day he made it his duty to assist us with the checkout process and took our bags to the driver. Melia needs about 30 more Eduardo’s. Wensky was able to setup a surprise romantic dinner for my husband’s birthday which was great. Jose picked us up and took us to our private candle lit table. Irving was our waiter for the evening and outdid himself, attentive, made sure our glasses was filled throughout dinner. Jose brought the chef over who made our delicious four course meal. The staff ended our evening with the entire crew singing happy Birthday to my husband while presenting him with his very own chocolate cake. Finally Diana was a great sport too, she followed up with us for our entire stay making sure there was nothing we wanted for. Overall I will say the entire staff at the Melia Punta Cana Level went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable.

Hotel's Favorite
My recent trip to Meliá in Punta Cana left me wanting to make another trip back soon! The hotel had just opened so there were some growing pains as the staff readjusted, which was to be expected. Overall it felt very clean and safe! I give an Excellent rating largely in part of Mr Eduardo (Eddy) who was a great representation of the resort. He consistently made sure we had everything we needed including restaurant reservations and rides throughout the complex. Would love to see him again on our next trip!

The resort itself is beautiful and the staff is fantastic. We had some hiccups during our stay that were resolved professionally by Moses and/or Roberto. Remember to download WhatsApp and you can communicate with concierge through it. If you get Moses, you’re in golden hands. He went beyond all expectations. The beach staff is great, Santo was our server most days and he was very attentive. I would recommend stay on the level property when on the beach. The moment you leave, you are hounded to purse everything can possibly imagine. The hotel is fairly priced and has a reputable company providing excursions. You can always find a rep by the towels. We used the picture people at the hotel to get some professional photography done. The pictures came out fantastic and we had a fantastic photographer(Ruben). He was professional and very courteous.

In a nutshell, the property is beautiful and for the most part the staff are quite well mannered and polite. Moses was our main contact provided by the level and he was never anything but professional and extremely helpful. The food was fairly good for an all inclusive. If you are straight and attending as a heterosexual couple they most likely will not sexually harass you. However, if you are a female without a male with you watch out. Avoid the timeshare presentation at all costs unless you want to waste a significant amount of time. The "7 day free night" certificate they give you in exchange carries a mandatory $250 / night charge for two people in order to use it. The good: 1) The property is absolutely gorgeous, the pool and beach are great, and the rooms clean and well appointed. 2) They're also offering significant specials due to COVID which makes the resort much more affordable than it would typically be. 3) During the week there's practically no one there due to COVID. 4) The staff is for the most part extremely friendly and service oriented EXCEPT for a few who were extremely sexually inappropriate towards my partner and me. More about that in "The bad" section. 5) Beach / Pool butlers are quite attentive and speedy in terms of serving drinks. You can't order food to be delivered to the beach / pool, but rather must go to the restaurant. 6) Room service offers a wide variety of food not avaliable from The Level restaurant, which was a welcome change 7) The Level Restaurant has the best selection of food that you can get at the restaurants you have access to while staying there. So So: 1) During the weekend there are many more native Dominicans. This is because the resort offers substantially cheaper prices for Dominican citizens (this was required by the government as condition of allowing the hotel to reopen). 2) Three of the resorts are not open due to COVID. This doesn't impact your stay at The Level, but would impact your stay if you chose to stay at The Grand Reserve since one of the hotel properties you'd typically have access to is closed. 3) The food at the asian restaurant was quite poor (I'm guessing asian food isn't their specialty in the Dominican Republic. The bad: 1) I went to the Level with my girlfriend (I'm gay) and the staff made repeated unwelcome sexual advances towards both me and my girlfriend. I reported this to the management but they did nothing. a) A fellow named Omar kept hitting on us and suggested a threesome when he found out we were together. When my girlfriend was laying on her side on one of the beach chairs he came up behind her and said loudly that she was "presenting" to him. b) A fellow named Patrick who was one of the timeshare presenters kept hitting on my girlfriend during the timeshare presentation, suggesting that we return for new years since he and his friends would be staying at the Level. It was obvious we were together. c) One of the beach butlers kept hitting on my girlfriend (again, despite the fact it was obvious we were together), going so far as to keep winking at her and making kissing noises. 2) The timeshare presentation a) During our stay we considered moving to The Grand Paradiso (also called "The Circle"). We asked for a tour of the property. What began as a request for a 10 minute tour devolved into a 2.5 hour time share presentation that would have lasted longer if we hadn't physically walked out in the middle of the presentation. b) In exchange for the timeshare presentation (which we unwittingly joined), the hotel offered a "7 day free voucher" at The Circle, and 2 free 30 minute massages. That may sound like a good deal, but the reality was that you needed to actually spend $125 / person / night for a mandatory "food and drink" charge. This was not rendered explicit at any point, and took us literally 4 hours of talking to various staff members before we discovered this to be the case when we attempted to use the voucher. If you stay at The Circle, you also can't go to the Level beach / pool. The Circle has a pool which is a 4 minute golf cart ride to the beach, whereas the level has a pool right next to the beach. We didn't attempt to use the massage certificate for fear it would come with a whole slew of conditions it would take us even longer to figure out. c) The timeshare presentation was unbelievably bad for the following reasons: i) They wanted $48k + $995 / year + $595 / month for a 30 year membership. In exchange, you would receive 8k "points" / year which could be used at Melia perperties. If you wanted to return to the circle, there was a mandatory $95 / person / night charge for food and drinks in addition to the use of the points. Allegedly the 8k points could be used for 3 weeks / year at any of the Melia properties, although it would be less time at some of the nicer hotels. ii) I asked to see the details in writing including terms and conditions and they said that there was nothing avaliable in writing. Why on earth anyone would shell out that kind of cash in the first place for the time share is beyond me, but the fact they were asking for that kind of cash with zero written contract is absolutely ridiculous. iii) They employed high pressure sales tactics throughout the presentation. The said it would be a maxium of 45 minutes. As it turned out that was definately not the case. We sat through 2.5 hours despite repeatedly saying we were done and not interested and they were wasting our time. They assured us repeatedly that the presentation would wrap up only to pass us off to no fewer than 5 different people, all of whom were versed in different elements of the presentation. After 2.5 hours we physically got up and walked out. They were rude and said that we needed to listen to more, but we had had enough. We went outside and a man followed us out saying he'd get us a ride back to the level. We said we wanted our certificate for the 7 free nights. He assured us he'd give it to us, but then launched into YET ANOTHER timeshare pitch, this time at a lower amount of money. After arguing with him he finally produced the certificate only after we told him the name of the man who'd assured us we'd receive a certificate for attending. He at first told us there was no certificate.

It was a beautiful experience. our butler Johan G. was always on the lookout for us, helping us coordinate the daily activities at the resort. A very friendly person and willing to serve with a smile on his face. Pros: - very clean locality - good service from staff - every day they cleaned my room and disinfected Cons: - Small food portion - Drinks Quality very poor - Wine (Virtuoso Brand) Poor - Not wine menu - Food needs more flavors, designs, chance the daily menu, Impress with the food. ! P.D. Please Americans. We are the best tipping on the planet. Be generous, I saw many people like Barney and Friends. (His hands don't reach his pockets .. ..) Please, let's not lose that leadership.
