The service was slow (by some staff), the Wi-Fi was spotty, and the hot water was not always reliable, and the room began to smell of tobacco though we are not smokers, but the vacation was salvaged by a few Iberostar employees that brought smiles to our faces as we saw them daily. Jose at the Dominicana breakfast buffet quickly learned our drink orders, brought them out, and set up a table for us as soon as we stepped in. Maria by the shared Punta Cana and Dominicana pools took care of everyone's drink orders in a very prompt and enthusiastic manner, ensuring that every guest knew that she loved them. Mercedes at the beach bar made the best piña coladas hands down and Mimosa in the spa worked out every knot during the massage (and had a cool name). Lastly, we couldn't have gotten through our first solo vacation without Mariela (shown in the picture) at the Star Prestige lounge who helped us along every step of the way, always greeted us with a smile, and remembered our names after the first time we met.

As usual... nothing but the best for the price actually... we went at the end of Jan 2019 this is our third time at that hotel since its been the best for us at Punta Cana... we go every year down south to run away from snow and cold.. at least for a week... and what is the most important when you take vacation ???? nice temp, good food, nice beach and heat ( well... for us) Punta Cana Iberostar Dominicana has all of this and that is why it is the top compare to other hotels... we even had the chance to meet with a retired couple that were at their 27 time there... yes 27 times... and like us.. they went to other... and came back... You cant go wrong at this hotel... unless your name is "Hilton" and you never had to select vacation based on price. for us... its clear.. our choice is made... cant wait to go back...

This place was very disappointing, customer service and staff weren't friendly or helpful at all, rooms had no hot water, or working air conditioning, our party had 8 rooms, sewer water leaked in one for 2 days, food was terrible, couldn't get reservations for any restaurants, had to eat the buffet for 7 days and it was not good, worst family vacation we have done, do not ever come here. Just an overall bad experience. You can tell that majority of the staff don't care if you are being taken care of, or having a good vacation or not, from the very first minute we arrived to the last minute we left bad, bad, bad experiences happened, I really am trying to think of something good to say but I really can't think of anything, the ocean and beaches are nice.

Room. We stayed in a family master suite. The room was as described with one bath and a separate room with two doubles for the Kids. When we arrived there was no bedding, no hot water, no TV in the kids room, TV in main room didn't work, empty mini bar, no towels or soap..... Each issue other than the missing TV was addressed after we returned to the front desk to voice our opinion that the room didn't seem to be ready. Wasn't the best first impression. Grounds. The courtyard and pools were amazing. The staff keep the resort in top notch condition. All the rooms are very proximate to everything. The overall arrangement of the resort is great. The beach is also amazing, well kept and perfect sand. Smoking. Something we didn't get catch in previous reviews was that this resort is the place to be if you are a smoker. Smoking happens everywhere except in the indoor restaurants. Unfortunately, we are not smokers so it was annoying. My kids were most affected by the smoke such that we were not able to watch the shows each night or sit in the lobby or at the bars or on the patios. When trying to find a place at the pool or the beach we had to be aware of the direction the wind was blowing that day since it was pretty much a guarantee someone beside you and behind you would be smoking. We have been to two other all inclusive resorts in the past 5 years and smoking was not ever an issue that we noted. If your group is potentially sensitive to smoking I would pass on this resort. Covid. The signs say you need to wear a mask in the buffet area and sanitize your hands when entering the buffet. That is basically the extent of Covid restrictions in the hotel. The resort had sanitizer dispensers at one of the three buffet entrances and it was most often empty. Not that it mattered because the majority of the guests just walked by. The guests amazed me with their ignorance of the mask and sanitizing requirements. Staff tried to ask people to put on masks, but for some that meant they needed to cover their chin or the top of their head, and others just ignored the staff. The behavior of the other guests was very disappointing. We brought our own hand sanitizer to each meal and I made the kids sanitize before and after entering the buffet area. I would recommend brining your own sanitizer bottles. Reservations. To reserve an alacart diner, PCR test and the tennis courts you need to meet the concierge. There is only one concierge desk for these reservations. Each time we met the concierge we had to wait more that one hour in the line to speak to him. The concierge will tell you that he can't make your dinner reservation at that time and that you need to come back tomorrow to pick up your slip. Tomorrow you come back, wait an hour, and your reservation won't exist. This happened to us three times (each time waiting an hour in line up) before we got frustrated enough that a manager came over and managed to get us something. We stayed in the resort for 14 days and should have been able to have 6 alacart dinners. In the end we managed to get two and came very close to losing our temper in the lobby. This system where only one person can make reservations and can't actually make them while you are there, is a reason to pass on the resort. I have never invested so much time waiting in lineups to make simple dinner reservations and had so much frustration when they get lost or don't exist. If this system does not get changed I would recommend you stay somewhere else. Beach/Pool Chairs. When you check in you are given a towel card and told that you will be charged $10 if you don't return the card. Guests "reserve" chairs at the beach and the pool such that often there were none available. This mindset of reserving chairs is silly. I saw chairs go unused for entire days because someone left a single towel across three. In other resorts I've been to the staff come by an take towels off vacant chairs to stop this reserving practice. They can't do that if they plan to charge for towels, but it certainly solves the problem with the chairs going unused. We had several days where we could not get a chair at the beach or the pool and instead had to sit on the edge of the pool or on the beach sand. Yet there are more than enough chairs, but our fellow travelers like to get up early and reserve them for the entire day. Other resort. In other reviews I read we could go to the neighboring Iberostar resort to use the kids splash park. One day we wondered over to let the kids try it out. When I went to get a towel for the kids with my towel card I was informed by the towel guy that I didn't belong there and that I was not allowed a towel or to be there. This was a bit embarrassing; it would be nice if there was some information provided by the resort on this topic. It seems people from the other resorts are allowed to come to Dominicana but the same privilege does not go the other way. Generally we had a good time, the staff were wonderful, the weather was great and the resort was satisfactory. I would say however that I would not come back to this resort. Having had much better experiences at other resorts I would definitely try somewhere else.

Many Cigarette smokers are everywhere: on the beach, in the theaters and casino. No signs “no smoking”, no places “for smoking “. Bars don’t have strolls for drinks, masks required only by the food, not everywhere sanitizers . Very disappointed, not coming next time and don’t recommend, specially for nonsmoking.
