During the guilt-drought travel slump immediately after the earthquake in Port-Au-Prince, the airport was closed while I was en route with a medical team and we landed in Punta Cana with no real plans. We split up and hopped on different busses to different resorts to try to cut a cheap deal. My bus emptied at Paradisus and another man on a business trip offered me the second bed in a villa. They were kind enough to keep booking us in at such a ridiculously low price it wouldn't have covered half my open bar tab but they had the space and some of the Haitian staff were nice enough to bring some decent business casual clothes for the few that only had shorts and scrubs. We waited a week before driving out on our own, but that's another story, and an abandoned rental car for another time.

Stayed for a week and although the resort is nice the food is absolutely awful expect to lose a few pounds! I’m sorry but that really makes or break a vacation my family and I haven’t had a decent meal until our 4th night and that was at most bearable. I definitely won’t ever be coming back.

We were very excited to go on this vacation (13 people) but things were not as expected : 1.- We requested 5 rooms in the same building but they accommodated us in 3 different buildings (later the concierge told us that the hotel was overbooked). 2.- We stayed at The Reserve that is the most expensive one in the resort and includes a “private concierge” to assist you in all your needs … that is the biggest rip off of this hotel! this guy did cero for us, he only created a wassap group and sent the same message every morning with the list of Pool activities. 3.- Forget about booking the restaurants that are in the resort ( that by the way are half closed because the Palma Real is under renovation) . As soon as we arrived the concierge told us that the only way to have dinner together as a group was at 6:30pm (very early considering it gets dark around 8pm) although we agreed but it didn’t worked as well, when we showed up at our “confirmed reservation” they told us 3 nights in a row that they couldn’t sit us together , offering nonsense sitting arrangements like a table for 10 and a table for 3, we had to stayed like 30m outside talking with the people of the restaurant and begging to be seated as a group, calling the concierge that told us that he only was in charge of making reservations , that he didn’t have anything to do with seating arrangements. Just to give you an example one night our concierge told us that he could “ assist us “ getting a table at Domenica restaurant , that we agreed and found out later that that restaurant was the buffet of the Gran Cana!! When we told him we didn’t want to go there and why he didn’t tell us it was the buffet, he said because we didn’t asked, this is the level of service you have to deal with if you go to Paradisus. 4.- The people that works in the whole Paradisus resort had a ver bad attitude , they treat you like they are doing you a favor , some of them don’t even answer your questions and are very rude and have a condescending attitude. There were only a couple of guys that were nice , some of the bartenders wants to make you pay for drinks that are free in another bar of the resort. 5.- The prívate beach was a disappointment as well, you can not sit in the 2 front lanes because is just for members ( thing that was never explain to us), they were not offering ANY kind of free water sports that we were told were included due to “seaweed” you need to pay for it in the beach of the next door hotel that belongs to the Melia group as well (which was clean because they clean it).Servers are very rude if you don’t showed $20 every time you order something, they pretend to take your order 1 or 2 times and never delivered it, after a few times you just give up and bring your own drinks and food. I believe in tips 100% but not when they start treating you bad since the beginning and change whit the tip, this is how they roll. Security at the beach is awful, we got stole a pair of brand name sandals and we were taking care of our stuff all the time. 6.- Food is very average, no real seafood just cheap fish and pieces of seafood , definitely not what you’re paying for. 7.- The only nice thing will be the property itself that is huge and has several pools but some of the rooms are dated, don’t waste your money and go somewhere else that you don’t feel mistreated and ripped off.

You don’t get what you pay for and cannot make reservations in the restaurants as promised. If you ask for a refund they say only if you leave the hotel. How about that for customer service, lol. Poor management and I couldn’t get in writing their policies, so very unprofessional. They offer a Catch-22 scenario where you are only allowed to make reservations the day of eating, but when you ask for reservations through a useless concierge, they let you know there is no space left in any of the restaurants and refer you instead to the buffet which gets old fast and contains much recycled food, so choose accordingly. Tipping didn’t help and we were more than generous. Poorly built structures and rooms where you hear your neighbors doing their thing...walking, talking, slamming doors. Many unhappy vacationers slamming doors in frustration and it doesn’t give you much of an opportunity to relax. Our room faced the pool where you get the constant loud music all day, so pretty worthless accommodations. We had to have the TVs replaced as if they couldn’t have checked that ahead of time, similarly there was nothing they could do for the many broken drawers throughout. As a plus, the service staff are kind people. Save you money and vacation time for a company that knows how to treat guests and isn’t focused on ripping you off. The beach is quite crappy as it requires not only taking a shuttle, but when you get there you find seaweed and pestering vendors.

Great time w/family staying at this resort. The service was excellent & areas clean. Special shout out to suellenny concierge, Marilyn at the breakfast buffet, Wanda at the beach bar, & Antonio for making our stay truly special.

My family and I were very excited to come to this resort. We were greeted by the manager Yves stating he would be assisting us throughout the trip. He persuaded us to attend a welcome info meeting early morning the next day, and there would even be breakfast available for us. With this happy thought in mind, we arrive to the hotel Iberostar (where it actually looks better) and we find out this meeting is about TIMESHARES, and the breakfast was nowhere to be found. Instead, there were large containers of fruits. Great way to start our vacation. The food was the same every single day. The seaweed at the beach was never cleaned up. The pool also was dirty. There was probably one small activity done everyday. Otherwise, everything was closed early evening. The only pleasant mark I can mention about this resort is their rooms. It was cleaned everyday and they were comfortable to stay in.

Me, my sister, daughter, and best friend very much enjoyed our stay at the Reserve Paradisus Palma Real. The grounds, the beach, the pools, the restaurants, yhe restrooms, the entire resort and our suite tere clean and beautiful! The food was very good. Yes there were some hits and misses but overall we enjoyed the food. Our Concierge Sandy was the absolute best!! He was an absolute joy! He was so professional, kind, and very knowledgeable. He made sure we were taken care of! I would definitely recommend staying here. I would visit again!

The public areas are very well kept, but the rooms are seriously outdated, and many things were broken. But the biggest problem was the service, which was utterly unprofessional. Room service forgot to take out the trash or change the towels half of the time. We had to talk to half a dozen people to even get shampoo, three days later. The pool was perpetually out of towels. Some of the restaurants opened half an hour late. And there is no information desk. When you make a request, they refer you to “your consierge”, who may or not be on shift, and has another 100 people to attend, so it’s never possible to get anything. Shockingly bad for a five star, or even a one star.

Had to queue up for 45mins to book a restaurant, I was able to book for three days, Fri, Sat, & Sun. Was told to go back on Sunday to book for 7 days. Went back on Sunday, queue again for 55 mins system was down, the young girl wrote all the restaurants down, told me I would get an email, I didn’t. had to queue again on Monday to find out what restaurant we were going to. She couldn’t find any of the restaurants she had reserved for us, it was a nightmare, everyone was complaining. Food was awful, service was appalling, as soon as you put the fork down when you had finished, the plate was taken away and the next course come out straight away. We were expected to be in and out of the restaurants within an hour. The buffet was good at lunch time, food was stone cold if you went there in the evening. The staff was lovely, the hotel and beach is very nice. Avoid this place

The facilities are nice, but the food and service couldn’t be worse. We are still here, and this place is absolutely horrible. They haven’t cleaned our room, we’ve been miserable and begging to speak to a manager for days. Do yourself a favor and skip this resort.
