If you want to book a tropical beach vacation with an unscrupulous organization that switches the hotel you had reserved for one with no beach, then this is the hotel chain for you. Last Spring, we booked a 4 night stay at The Reserve. We received an email from Melia on 11/6 confirming that everything was ready for our arrival on 11/7. We were vacationing with another couple and upon arriving; everyone was shocked to find the hotel closed. After being ping ponged back and forth between two other Melia hotels, Melia management offered a feeble apology for not notifying us that The Reserve had been closed for months. We were told we would be staying at The Grand Reserve, a sister hotel that has NO BEACH; the closest beach is a hot and tiring 20 minute walk away. No other choices or options were possible. Melia management, please do not bother responding with your standard pathetic response of lamenting our disappointment. Your rational of providing an upgraded room and shuttle service to a beach at another hotel was no substitute for what we'd paid for. The Grand Reserve is a concrete jungle; it is nowhere near the beach and the lack of ocean breezes creates a stifling atmosphere. Melia wastes you vacation time (and money) by having you wait to take a shuttle back and forth to the Palma Real in order to relax on the beach. Even more outrageous is that Melia is still taking reservations on their website for a closed hotel! This is fraud with a capital F.

Rooms are essentially brand new. We REALLY liked our 2 room suite. It was amazing. Facing the pool is perfect. We were treated to incredible service. Our concierge Ramon helped out with all of our appointments (spa, dinner reservations, etc.) but the most AMAZING service was provided by FRANCISCO our omnipresent sommelier. He made sure that we had fantastic wine choices with every meal. He was truly incredible. Other highlights were chef Eduardo at lemon fish, the folks in the spa and the pool/beach wait staff who never let us go too long without having a drink. The check out experience was HORRIBLE! This was primarily due to Angelica C, She printed out the bill and left us standing there for 10 min. I asked what was the problem and she snapped at me "I will be with you in a minute." After waiting another 5 mins, she asked if I had paid for my vacation? WTH? I replied that I paid for it 6 months ago. She then rudely said that I needed to prove that I paid or that I would be charged again. I asked "like showing you a copy of my credit card statement?" She snapped "You need to email it to me." So, I logged into my bank's app, and emailed a pic of it. Angelica didn't even say thank you. I informed her that our car had arrived and that we needed to get to the airport. She seemed unconcerned and did not respond until I repeated myself, to which I received another rude "one moment" response. The Grand Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real is an awesome property and we had a great time.

Cheyla (Nube): Cheyla is an extremely friendly, compassionate and easy to talk to person. As a trained mixologist, you would struggle to find someone at the resort more talented at making complex cocktails and drinks. Frankelly (RubiRocks Sports Bar): Frankelly is a delightful individual who demonstrates the pinnacle of customer service while dealing with residents at the resort. He is a great person to engage in conversation with and I highly recommend asking for him at the sports bar when he is not supervising at the buffet or other restaurants. Armando (Buffet): Armando is a very approachable and friendly person who goes out of his way to help resort residents and provide them with exceptional service. I was blown away at his attention to detail and effort to maintain contact throughout the resort. Hector (Concierge): Hector was our concierge at the resort and he was my best concierge thus far at any all-inclusive resort. He demonstrates a true passion for his work and making people happy and this ability shows in his micromanagement and communication skills. Hector is your go-to person for anything you may need and you would be surprised what he is capable of arranging, so feel open to ask him for anything you may need to make your trip more pleasant. He goes out of his way to communicate the resort schedules by WhatsApp every morning and is a fast responder to text. As a whole, Hector made the entire trip more pleasant and manageable.

Just returned from Grand Reserve. Had a fantastic time. Rooms are brand new, food is great and staff are outstanding. Hector Mora was our concierce and took care of everything we needed. Chelia Garcia is the Bartender at Nube and she is the best ever. Every drink we had was fantastic and we tried many different creations. She is friendly and very sweet too! You have to stop by to see her if you go to the Grand Reserve. Maribel is a server in Mangu. She is enthusiastic and does a great job. She always has a smile on her face. Perfect vacation.
