Nestled in a picturesque beachfront location, the Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort, Spa & Casino captivates guests with its vibrant atmosphere and extensive amenities, including the Unique club and diverse dining options. This was a mother/ daughter trip. We used a travel agent, booked Air Canada Vacations and chose the Tropical Room with the Unique experience.

ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN – We were the first stop from the airport, 25 mins travel time. Checked in at the Unique Reception, an air-conditioned room, and were seated at a desk. The staff member Kimi, was very pleasant, and informative and suggested we visit the Unique Beach Club for lunch while we waited for our room to be ready. She also connected us with our Butler Carlos Huggins using What’s App. We received bracelets that acted as our room keys! Easy and pleasant experience!

HOTEL ROOM/ GROUNDS – The grounds are stunning, modern, and clean! Carlos met up with us escorted us to our room and showed us all the amenities our room had to offer. The room was large and airconditioned! We always came back to a cold room (thermostat always read 22 C) We never felt any humidity and we had very humid weather during our stay. We did bring damp rid as suggested when visiting any Caribbean destination. After 8 days, the bag was not even half full. The maid came daily, making the bed, wiping the counters, mopping the floor, and restocking towels and bottled water. We always had an abundance of clean towels. The bed was super comfortable.
• Extras Included - slippers and robes,
• Unique Inclusions – beach bag to keep, 2 complimentary bottles of rum, a plate of chocolate truffles, a plate of fruit, and beach towels in our room. Nespresso machine vs coffee

The one thing was the bathroom was open to the main room and with frosted glass doors for the shower and toilet. I knew this before going to the resort and we just worked around it. The room entrance door also has a stopper. The outdoor balcony has a drying rack that can be pulled out. The room had plenty of storage space and is well sized.

I was surprised with the humidity that we didn’t see more mosquitos on the resort. We did bring repellent but never used it. At night, the resort was simply gorgeous. The resort is large but it is walkable. (We have been to other resorts and needed to wait for a shuttle to take us to a different destination on the resort.) Everywhere we went, it was clean and had well-manicured gardens. Elevators and stairs are located in each tower section of the building.

STAFF – We want to go back to this resort partly to see the staff. By trip's end, we were hugging a few staff members goodbye! On the first full day of our trip, many knew our names and we were always greeted with an “Hola! Como estas”. Just walking around the resort and being greeted by various staff members was so welcoming. Carlos called us every morning to see how we were and reassured us that he was there to help with anything we might need. Yes, some staff were not fluent, but Google Translate helped or the staff member would get someone else to help. The staff does their best to ensure you are happy and having an amazing vacation! Our hair dryer gave out one day and we contacted Carlos to have it replaced. It was great to be able to have things taken care of without interfering with our plans. Carlos even called after we got back home from our trip to ensure we arrived home safely!!

WIFI/ APP – Wi-Fi was great at the resort. Never had issues. It was weaker on the beach but that is to be expected. They have an awesome app that I downloaded before the trip and was able to view all the amenities. We were able to book and cancel all our restaurant reservations from the app as well as view all the entertainment available during the day and night. All the information we needed was on this app – Spa, Golf, maps, open and closing times, etc. Also dress codes for restaurants. You cannot make dinner reservations without a room number. We never had issues booking the restaurant we wanted or at the time frame we wanted.

BEACH/POOL - There were plenty of chaises around the pool area and on the beach. We would hop from the beach to the infinity pool to the Unique Pool and never had issues finding a place to rest our towels and belongings. There is no swim-up bar but that to me is preferable and maybe why the water in the pool was so clear and clean. Bars were close to the beach and pool and the staff also came around offering beverages. There was seaweed in the water during our stay but the staff had always kept the beach pretty clean so it never was a deterrent. The ocean has a roped-off section and behind that, there were excursion boats parked. This never bothered us and we never smelt gas from them. I did notice the security on the beach. We had been approached by 2 guys with parrots and a monkey. They wanted to use our phones to snap photos and collect money. The security guards were watching and quickly approaching to ensure we were not hassled. I also noticed security by the pool. Beach towels were available at a hut centrally located between the infinity pool and the beach. We would replace our wet towels with dry ones before walking back to our room.

FOOD/DRINK – The food was amazing! We never ate in the large buffets or Gold Fish restaurant during our stay so I can’t comment on them.

Breakfast - Every morning we went for breakfast at the Unique Club Buffet. Always greeted by Jose or Bianca or both. There was an outdoor grill where you could get fresh omelets and smoothies and then an enclosed area for the rest of the buffet. Sitting beachside to start your day was the best. The staff was always attentive and replenishing drinks or clearing plates. Then we would hit the bar on our way to the pool or beach and grab a beverage in our tumblers.

Lunch - We had lunch at both the Unique Buffet and at the Valley which was a la carte. The Unique Buffet offered grilled seafood and meat and a wonderful selection in the inside buffet. The Valley we went for nachos. All great and excellent service.

Dinner – all A La Carte restaurants were amazing. We ate twice at the Mexican (El Charro) as it was our favourite. Excellent food as well at the French (La Boheme), Steak House (El Asador), and Mareas. The Japanese and Italian were good but the previous listed were our favourites for a la carte.

Food was always served in a timely manner. Service was always exceptional. There was always more than one person attending to the table! We loved interacting with all the staff at the restaurants. At the Mexcian Restaurant we were serenaded by the Mariachi Band. Every restaurant had its own unique ambiance.

One night we did order room service. We were warned it would take 50 minutes from the app. It came within a half hour. Again, excellent service and food.

Bars – The drinks were good and we never waited for service at any of the bars. The pool and beach service was also adequate. International brands are available with the all-inclusive. If you want the option of higher-end brands, you could request it at an extra cost. We did order a bottle of wine at the Steak House and had our room charged. (Check the app for more info on available options). Again, no swim-up pool but we were glad for the that a the pool water was crystal clear.

ENTERTAINMENT/ SOLITUDE
If you wanted to have a peaceful relaxing vacation, the resort was large enough to find your space. If we wanted to find where the action was, we would check the app to find out what was going on or take a walk to the lobby bar and boulevard to discover any adventure or just ask Carlos. We didn't do any excursions but the hotel has all the connections for them which is your safest bet.

BOULEVARD – Loved this aspect of the hotel. You can check the app for all the amenities. From Coffee Shop, bars, entertainment and shops. We did book a package at the spa and also got our hair cuts there! Both were great experiences.

In conclusion, my daughter and I had an amazing vacation at Lopesan. The Unique upgrade was worth it to us for the butler, the personal check-in, the Unique Beach Club, the Unique Pool, Timon Bar, the beach area and the little extras we received. Special Thanks to our butler Carlos, hotel clerk Kimi, all the Unique Beach Club bartenders, servers, and hosts Jose and Bianca, and all the rest of the hotel staff that made our stay so pleasant!

TIPS – bring damp rid, $1 USD for tips, tumblers and download the Lopesan app for info regarding hotel, shuttles and excursions. USD preferred currency. Hand sanitizer if frequenting buffets.

Spent 14 nights Adult Only Jan 22. - Feb 5. I had joined the Facebook group “Lopesan Costa Bavaro Travellers Resort Group” a few months before our trip and read some great reviews and not so great reviews. We went with our “eyes wide open” and hoped for the best. Let me start by saying that this is the most beautiful resort I have ever been to. The style, decor, light fixtures, water features etc. were top notch. The beach is walkable for miles with soft white sand and little seaweed and many amazing pools to choose from. I found the food to be good with lots of choices and no problem making reservations. The French restaurant was worth the extra charge.
Unfortunately, I would not return to Lopesan and I truly hope then can improve in the future.
The first room we were given (3171) had a very strong sewage smell and was so damp that the floor was wet and dangerous to walk on. As we arrived late in the evening we thought we would get the air conditioning going and see if it improved. We had to rig the air vent so the a/c would stay on. We did not sleep that night as the sheets were wet as well. The next day we were able to change to a room that was not damp although at last once a day the sewage smell would come through temporarily. We also found the service to be very poor. We felt ignored a lot of the time by bartenders and waiters who seemed more interested in each other then the guests although I tipped each time. We saw no presence of Management at all in our 2 weeks there. The staff in the green shirts I heard were suppose to be Managers but they treated guests the same way. Staff speak very little English which made communicating difficult. Room cleaning was very frustrating - I didn’t appreciate having to chase the cleaner most days to get towels, soap, Kleenex etc...
Our first week there was no problem with loungers but as the second week got busier we witnessed it becoming a real issue. We played the game and reserved a spot at 7am but could see people at 9am not able to find a spot. They began taking the loungers and umbrellas from the pools to the beach. We did not enjoy sitting at the beach. The beach is so crowded with “non adult only” and families in the adult only section. Not sure the adults only was worth the upgrade - the pool only holds about 40 loungers for the number of adult rooms.
Personally, I don’t want to have to worry about these things when I go on vacation and for the price, I expect to not have to.

My family and I vacationed here last July and could not wait to return, yes there can sometimes be a sewage smell but it's an island and the infrastructure is obviously not the same as what you would find in North America. We were really impressed with the food and we still think it's good.

That isn't really my issue. Firstly, it was a horrible check in experience. We arrived at 12:30 and didn't get our rooms till about 4:30 pm. Our flight was at 6:15 in the morning and the last thing you want to do is wait for your room after traveling. Next when we got to our room, 2 of the 4 drawers in the room were broken and the fronts were just jammed in to appear normal, you would think housekeeping staff would notify maintenance while cleaning. The drawer literally fell apart as I opened it. Next out blowdrier was broken, we had to asked 4 times for a new one and didn't get it till the 3rd day of our stay. On the 4th day, our ceiling fell open. You would not expect the hotel to be falling apart so quickly, just a year old resort. Next it is nearly impossible to get a chair by the pool without having to come down at 6/6:30 am. The cabanas are a headache, we came down to the pool at 5am to get our cabana and when sitting there someone came up to us and said it was theirs and they had come at 2am to get it...bull. it was empty when we came at 5. Either strictly enforce a first come first serve rule and don't allow people to leave a single towel to claim it as their own, or charge people to rent a cabana for the day. They need to some how manage this. There is one group of people from a specific country that rhymes with "pusshia", the most entitled people who butt in line at the buffet, at the front desk, take spots that aren't theirs, and have no consideration of others. They have overtaken the resort. it has made my stay miserable. Not returning.

Hi staying here at the minute first time ever I’ve even I’ve never considered writing a review but never been treated like this before especially in a supposed 5 star Hotel with my wife 10 yr&8 yr old girls and 18 month old boy, don’t know where to start really, right here we go paid £11,000 for 15 nights expecting luxury like you get in other normal 5 stars where we stop in all over the world, here no chance paid extra for this unique thing but still spent 45 mins at reception waiting on check in day, then tried to get into the unique dining/drinking spots which we paid extra for but we were told briskly and rudely no you can’t come in here because we were given the wrong wristbands so I got a bit annnoyed and got them to ring reception, after 15 mins finnaly got a apology and served ,then air con not working or fridge, men were sent to repair them but still weren’t working. We then got a call from a lovely lady marcela who to be fair couldn’t apologise enough and sorted a few things out for us we then had some lovely food at the buffet and went back to the room. Next morning had breakfast in the unique dining again beautiful food and Angelo the main man was fantastic and very helpful went to grab some towels from one hut told none left next hut told none left, last hut got a rude arrogant bloke told me and my daughter 35/40 min ? It was 10.30 ? I asked him can’t he fetch some please as my kids wanted to go to the water park just shrugged his shoulders constantly, so went to see Angelo he got me some with in 5 mins wasn’t that difficult was it. Come back from the water park had some food and got back to the room about 2.30 as we always do on holiday when it’s hottest, the room hadn’t been cleaned and it was red hot, so called marcela asked for maintenance again to fix air con. Two men came and were attempting to fix it again but to no avail told us door s should be shut which we did all day, but one of the doors won’t shut properly I was fed up by this point so went to see marcela but she wasn’t there she’d gone to our room, when I got back I couldn’t believe what was happening two grown men intimidating my wife in front of my daughter s slamming and hitting the door saying it must be shut but clearly it won’t (got photos/videos) then turned to me looking me up and down so I asked them to leave my wife was very upset my girls saying daddy can we just go home now please honestly unbelievable I couldn’t believe what was happening so now we’ve got a $20 fan trying to keep us all cool got photos again, I ve asked for a full refund so we can leave the hotel and all we’ve been offered is a 20% discount of our next stay which you can see is never going to happen, also like previous reviews which I’ve just read most of the hotel does smell foul. I’m not taking this lying down they can’t treat people like this

The Lopesan is newly opened, very stylish and just the right size property. We spent a week at the beginning of Feb 2020. Our room and balcony were spacious, well decorated and clean. The facilities on The Boulevard were awesome - gym, coffee shop, 24hr food shop - Yolo, and the sports bar. There were multiple pools and the entertainment at the large pool was lively and funny but never too loud. The beach area was spacious and clean. There were vendor stalls set up on one side of the beach but the vendors did not harass you like we have experienced on our other three trips to different properties in Punta Cana. It was refreshing and peaceful! The food at the buffet was plentiful and fresh. The food quality at the a la cartes was great but other than Teppanyaki it generally took 2 hours plus to serve an appetizer, main course and dessert and we thought that was too long of a wait in between courses. There was definitely a sewage smell at the back of our building on the path to The Boulevard. I don't know if they can do anything about that? My only real complaint was the struggle to get pool or beach loungers! The first three days that we were there we managed to pull together five beach loungers when we arrived at the beach at 10 or 11 am. But on the fourth day we spent over an hour walking around the beach and pool trying to find even one lounger. There were towels on many loungers but no one was sitting on them. We never did get 5 loungers on that day. So on the next morning one of our party went to the beach early at 7 am and put our towels on 5 chairs. However when we got down to beach after breakfast and gym someone had taken our chairs anyways. The following day it was my turn to get up at 6:30 am (on my vacation - not happy) to get 5 beach loungers. When I got to the beach at 6:40 am, the sun had not risen yet and there were so many people already at the beach claiming loungers. I have never seen anything like it! Having learned from the day before I put towels and personal items on five chairs and someone always stayed behind to guard the chairs so no one would take them! Surely the Management at the Lopesan has to come up with a better system? It was very easy to get additional beach towels so people would "reserve" themselves pool and beach loungers and only use one. Are there enough loungers for all the guests? I am on a beach vacation so I need a lounger to sunbathe otherwise I would have gone skiing! This lounger situation put a damper on our Lopesan stay as I do not want to get up at 6:30 am on my vacation to fight for a beach chair!

My review of Lopesan,

My wife and I were there for the past 10 days, really wished I had joined this group
before booking this trip, we wouldn't have come here. Our stay here was just ok, will not be
returning, this hotel is a 3 1/2 to a 4 star at best.

The smell is real, if you have breathing problems this place is not for you, everytime we
needed to go to lobby (the only bar close enough that had good rum stocked) I would have problems
breathing, only ate at Valley the one time, when smell was at a minimum, food had a musty
flavor.
Never made it past the front door of Mexican restaurant, had to cancel our reservation on arrival,
the guy working there was apologizing for the smell, he said he knew it was bad but there
was nothing he could do.
Take in mind I grew up on a farm, this smell was bad, mold and mildew
with a hint of sewage.

This Facebook site on the other hand did help us know where the worst smells were, to avoid a bad
smelling room, we had a junior suite with a swim up, we asked for room 1036 in advance
and it was ready and waiting for us, this was a pro.

The people working here are very helpful, as long as you respect them, every problem we
encountered was met with a helpful smile. I talked to the manager and gave her my opinion
on The Valley and Mexican restaurant, I suggested placing chairs and tables outside the
restaurant so we could eat out of the smell, so hopefully they might, but it was not to be on
our stay.

Pro's
The staff was very helpful.
The resort is new with modern amenities, no card to lose it's a bracelet.
The WiFi is not bad, unless it's raining then everyone is on it.
Smart tv in room, was able to mirror my tablet or phone.
Pools were nice, beach was beautiful, boulevard was gorgeous.
Very quiet resort not much noise.
Awesome coffee shop at The Boulevard!
IF, your a cat lover, Yolo the cat and her 3 babies were adorable.

Con's
The resort was built too fast, things falling apart, not even one year old, doors in bathroom falling off
We were supposed to have a cloths rack outside, it fell off at one point, so they patched holes instead of replacing it, so we had none.
Beach, smell of the boats and fuel, not nice, 40 boats tied up off shore just idling
Resort smells of sewage and mildew.
Food just ok, many times found chicken not cooked fully, pink inside.
Resort says that they are eco-friendly, but restaurant uses hundreds of plastic desserts cups everyday, what a waste!
The alcohol served in the bars is crap, except in lobby bar and the boulevard, beach bars were only
Crap/no name alcohol.
No ice machines, sometimes waited more than an hour for room service to bring ice.

Wife paid for ocean view. When we arrived room was not ready at 3 pm as promised .Around 5 she finally got into the room and it had not been cleaned yet.Blood everywhere in washroom.totally gross.Another hr wait to get service to get room clean.Took me about 10 trips to customer service to get some compensation of half hr massages for that gross arrival.Guess they figure that’s how service is at 5 star hotel.
2 or 3 times maid did not show up durning our 2 week stay.
Up every morning at 530 to secure a few chairs on beach so you had somewhere to sit.2 or 3 major arguments when people would take your chairs.Place was packed and a big shortage of chairs.
Not enough washrooms at the beach area and one washroom was closed for around 5 days while they made repairs.one beach bar unless you paid the extra money,so very long lines at the bar.they had a cart with drinks by the pool but limited selection.
Bad smell in the lobby bar and many of the rooms depending on location.
The resort was new and very beautiful, they have spent millions.to me it’s starting to look like made in the USA and loosing the Dominican feel.
Thought the main buffet was great and always love the Dominican people.
Gym was great just wish they would have open at 6 am since you had to be awake anyway to get a chair on the beach.
Weather and beach were beautiful.Think they have.a lot of work to do to get it up to a 4 star.
With millions invested you would think they would be keen on getting the service up,buying a few more chair for the beach ,build another washroom and bar around the beach area and get rid of the smell.

Just returned from the Lopesan this past Saturday. We had a Unique Club room, and I have to say it is not only worth the extra money, but a MUST. The Unique beach is incredible. No need to reserve chairs as there are lots for everyone, and not crowded. You could come down to the beach at your leisure and still be able to get chairs. This was not the case on the regular side. It is crazy packed with lots of people sitting on their towels directly on the beach. Even for that reason alone, the Unique Club is worth it. You also get a separate restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Beautiful spot, right on the beach. The restaurant manager there, Alejandro, and his staff are so devoted to giving you the best possible service. I can honestly say Alejandro is responsible for making our vacation so memorable. The food here was so good. I had lobster, scallops and shrimp everyday for lunch! You had the option at breakfast to order off of an a la carte menu or the buffet. I always found something amazing at the buffet so didn't order, but my husband ordered an omelet everyday off the menu. We went to the main buffet for breakfast one day to see what the difference was, and never went back there. So overcrowded and impersonal. We stuck to the Unique restaurant after that.
Also, you have a separate beach bar and lounge area with top shelf liquors. Bonita was the evening bartender and she also provided fantastic service. She made the best Caesars! We wouldn't order one unless she was working.
Beach towels were never an issue. Because you have a Unique bracelet you can just walk up to the towel hut and they give your fresh towels. A couple of days we received new towels in our room. Not sure if that was something you were supposed to get everyday?
Another bonus was not needing to make reservations fro the al a carte restaurants. Again, because of the Unique bracelet, you just walked up to any of the restaurants and you would be seated. Even the French restaurant in the boulevard was free, where others had to pay extra. The food was great everywhere, except for The Valley restaurant. It was okay, but not to the same standard as all the others.
We had great weather and great service. Once again, thank you Alejandro for making us feel special and spoiled!

We were at Lopesan from Jan 14-21 and like most of the other travellers, I have to say, the resort is absolutely beautiful! They’ve done an incredible job with all of the decor, the grounds, pools, rooms and restaurants. The maintenance of the grounds is excellent, the resort is extremely clean and the pools and the beach are gorgeous.
The reason I give the resort a 4 is due to the service. Check in was an issue for everyone who arrived at the same time that we did. The rooms weren’t ready and after an hour and a half, our room still wasn’t ready and there was quite a bit of confusion about this at the front desk. When we got to a room, not the one we booked because it still wasn’t ready, we didn’t have shampoo, soap or a hair dryer. It took 7 calls over 3 days and eventually we got a hair dryer which is not a big deal, just an inconvenience over a lack of communication skills with the staff.

Pros
The resort, pool and beach are gorgeous!
The a la carte restaurants were all quite good
The resort is very clean and high end
There is only one white, red and rose choice of wine but they’re good

Cons
Communication skills of the staff were poor
You have to go down to the beach or pool by 8 am to reserve your spot
There are only 4 washroom stalls at the washroom for the pool and beach, same with the buffet, both of which have a capacity for a couple of hundred people
The housekeeping was a little inconsistent. Sometimes you got 4 towels, sometimes you got 2, not sure why
You have to line up at the pool-bar for 10-15 minutes to get a drink

Although I’m stating more cons than pros, we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed this resort. Over time when the service improves, it will certainly be a 5* and for the price, I recommend it!

This was our first stay at an all-inclusive resort, but it won't be our last. I was very pleased with almost every aspect of this place. It was excellent value for money. We paid $144/night (total not each) for six nights, plus a 5% upcharge for paying with a credit card. We learned of this special through Travelzoo. The Junior Suite was spacious and comfortable, and everything worked. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept well.

The food was very good but not exceptional. The buffets had a wide variety of tasty food.

Drinks were readily available. The bar brands were served if you did not specify a brand, and they were adequate. A number of good brands were available such as Absolut and Stoly (but no Grey Goose). The DR brand Brugel Extra Viejo made a very good Cuba Libre. The coffee at the Bavaro Coffee was very good. The local beer, Presidente, was decent. The wines are almost undrinkable, but the champagne was decent.

Service was mixed. The staff was helpful and pleasant, but occasionally inattentive. Since English is a second language for the staff, most of the problems we had were due to translation issues. Everyone was friendly and there were no issues with surliness.

Cleanliness was stressed. One requirement that was enforced was the wearing of masks when ordering at a bar or restaurant. Staff was very vigilant in cleaning high touch areas.

We were very impressed with the excellent value of this resort. We plan to return, with family, at some time in the future.

This is the type of question best answered by calling the resort directly or contacting the Lopesan customer service number via their website.

Generally speaking, you will need to present a debit card or credit card when you check into the resort. If you have a paid in full reservation, then you should've received a confirmation email from the company. Simply contact Lopesan via that confirmation email and ask them about this matter.
