Only 20 minutes from the international airport of Punta Cana and located in one of the most emblematic beaches of the eastern region of the Dominican Republic we find the Iberostar Grand Hotel Bávaro. Majestic in its external appearance and in its decoration, it responds to a project devised by the prestigious Mexican architect Fernando Quirarte and inspired by Greco-Roman architecture. Its gardens and varied representation of native species found in a lush central lake, where it hosts a spectacular sailboat reproduced in real size and converted into one of the most original bars in the entire Caribbean, make this hotel a unique place. In addition, staying at our hotels will help take care of the planet thanks to our Wave of Change initiative: throughout 2020, all our rooms are free of single-use plastics, which will be replaced by other materials that are more environmentally friendly. This ambitious initiative will also be extended to the rest of the hotel areas. Together with its luxury facilities, an unbeatable environment, pioneering impulses, an exclusive attention also stands out: customers talk about the unforgettable experience of the stewardship service. Luxury, a service that is completed with a SPA overlooking the Caribbean Sea, careful with the environment, this hotel gathers everything to give its guests a personalized and unique stay.

We recently enjoyed a week at the Grand Bavaro in room 7235. It is a nice 3 star resort that was busy but not crowded. Strong Points: It has very nice physical layout, and the grounds are very well maintained. There is a nice pool complex and beach with plenty of cabanas and lounge chairs. The staff is universally friendly. The restaurants and the food are a huge strength, with varied menus and excellent service. The check-in and check-out were smooth. Low points: The room needs updating and maintenance has suffered. No USB ports, only one electrical outlet for charging, no alarm clock, some jets in the Jacuzzi broken, dirty curtains in the bathroom, the tile floors are very slippery when wet, the TV remote didn’t work. The butler was good at doing routine things like making dining reservations, but simple requests like getting Diet Coke in the fridge and getting the ceiling fan adjusted never got done. No one knew which of the unmarked coffee cartridges were regular or decaf. It was a big deal to get a list of channels for the TV and no one knew if the NFL playoffs would be televised in the room. Most days we had good maid service 2 or 3 times a day, but one day we were skipped entirely. Next time we go to Punta Cana, we’ll go elsewhere.

Hotel's Favorite
This was our 6th time to the Grand. While it is not the same as when we first visited, it is still a great place to go. The changes are probably due to being older (mid 60s) than anything else. The property gets better every time we go. The grounds are spectacular and very well manicured. Room On the smaller size than some other resorts, but still had plenty of room. They are clean and well maintained. However, they are probably in need of an overhaul within the next few years. Water pressure in the shower was decent, but not great. There is a large balcony with multiple chairs and an outdoor loveseat. Buffet Breakfast buffet is my favorite. Plenty of options from eggs to cereal to toast to fruit and juices, plus plus. Lunch was good, but somewhat repetitious. However, you are sitting right on the beach, so not too bad. Restaurants All were good, with excellent options and good quality. We did not have a bad experience (did not get to the Japanese). What makes the Grand a place to return to is the staff. They are fantastic, with excellent English, Spanish, German, etc. However, I’d like to point out several staff who made our stay exceptional. Ery, Lely and Kerlin at the swim up bar are absolute gems. Especially Ery, who was very funny, engaging, and appeared to be truly happy doing what he is doing. I had a hat on that read ‘Punta Canada’, so I was called Punta Canada from day one until we left. Ortiz and Lorraine at the breakfast buffet both recognized us (from previous visits) immediately on our first day. They were so pleasant and helpful with our dining needs. My last but not least mention is for Salvador (or as we called him – Houston….his first name). Houston was our assigned Butler. He had been our Butler last year when we were there and we requested his services again this year. You could always tell him ‘Houston, we have a problem’ and his response would always be ‘let me fix it’ without even knowing what it was. He looked after everything for us – dining bookings, etc. However, one afternoon, he just sat with us by the pool and we talked about our families, our countries and jobs. Houston loves his country, loves his job, and loves his family. Iberostar should be extremely proud of the type of person he is and hire more Salvador’s.

My husband and I went to our first Iberostar to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and we could not have chosen better. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty. We were greeted by "our" concierge, Eliezer, who could not have been more helpful and gracious. No sooner had we been escorted to our gorgeous room, with the private deck overlooking the extremely well maintained grounds, then our butler, Jose, arrived to give us the short list of all the things a hotel butler can do for us, from dinner reservations, to booking massages, to specific mini bar requests. (Ask for Jose, you won't regret it.) If you are a pool person, you will love the pools, with the games, activities, and mini bar. If you are a beach person, enjoy the grass umbrellas and beachside wait service. If you are a golf person, the course is beautiful and challenging. If you like excursions, there are several available to get you off the property (although we tried a couple of beach trips, and why? the resort has the best one). You can walk for miles along the beach. When you dine, look for Yari, the consummate hostess at breakfast and dinner, and keep an eye open for Lorraine, Iris, and Samuel. The buffets are extensive, fresh and amazing, with something for absolutely everyone. The restaurants, we found, were often not as good as the dinner buffet, with the exception of Casa de la Playa, which serves Dominican food every night. For a romantic splurge, have the "romantic dinner" on the beach -- it's like starring in your own romance movie, right down to live smooth jazz in the background. Even the housekeeping staff are friendly, considerate, and went out of their way to make every moment of our stay wonderful (I mean you, Silvana). There is no question that we will return. We have a new version of paradise.

The trip was great, but what made it amazing was our Butler Robert. He is friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and a wonderful personality. Robert clearly understands the value of Hospitality and the importance of people enjoying their vacation. Robert made it a PERFECT VACATION!

Best place and best service ever. We’ve been to several iberostars in other countries but iberostar Puna Cana is hands down the best all around. The staff cares so much and they all seem like they really love their jobs. We will be coming back again for sure.

We had a wonderful week here at the Iberostar Grand Bavaro ! Robert was a fantastic butler and very attentive to all our needs ! He was always just a phone call away ! The meals we had were delicious ! We ate 5 of the dinners at the buffet which had an unbelievable selection . Irene our server was outstanding and so sweet to us . We had her at breakfast and dinner !She was the highlight of our days ! I loved floating in the pool , I did bring my own float and they were able to blow it up at the towel hut . The nightly entertainment was enjoyable, my favorite was Il Divo . The lobby bar was also fun ! We will be back !

Room 7313, overlooking the pool area and decent views to the beach, was great. The staff, especially Robert, our butler, was super. Special thanks to Robert for assisting when I had a minor medical issue. The food was good with alot of options to choose from the buffet with different themes every night. Really can't go wrong eating there every day. We went to El Galeon (surf/turf) and Japanese and they were good as well. Irene at the buffet took great care of us. We stayed mostly in the pool area utilizing the cabanas and were well attended by the waitstaff. All in all, definitely will look to repeat soon.
