I cannot say enough great things about the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana. We booked last minute as my family was ready for a break. Benny was an amazing butler and helped with anything we may have needed. Francis is the best bar tender ever! My favorite spot is his beach bar. At that same beach bar, Ruth, Rosanna, and Davidson are the best. Such good people at this place and I am thankful I got to meet the people I did.

it’s been a good long while since i actually was at the resort but i was just looking back at my pictures and memories from my trip and i wanted to come write a review. all i have are good memories from this trip. i remember my favorite restaurants being Isla and Los Gallos— both with incredibly good food, and me telling my family that i’d go back to those two restaurants every night if i could. i remember walking to the beach from my room every day and getting to talk to the same kind lady at my chair who would get me a piña colada— sadly, i don’t remember her name. i remember going down to the lobby the second day i was there to ask a question to guest services and meeting three of the nicest people i’ve ever met, Paula, Yarol and José— and every time i saw them again i was met with friendly, warm-hearted smiles and great conversations— in fact, i even remember walking down to the lobby on occasion specifically to see Yarol or José just because i was so excited to have great, familiar faces. i remember seeing one of my favorite people, Brenda/Beba (i don’t remember what she goes by at the hotel) a few times around the resort, she’s so great. i remember singing at karaoke night and getting the whole room going when i sang Como La Flor. my point in sharing all these memories is to share that this place gives me so much joy when i think about it— and everything that comes from it is positive vibes. i hope to go back as soon as i can, if i could, i’d get on a plane right this minute to go back.

We really, really needed a vacation. This is a beautiful place in a beautiful Country. It's not perfect, but it could be. Positives: Generally very friendly and helpful staff. Special shoutout to Maura at the beachfront bar who is literally walking the beach carrying loads of drinks 8 hours a day. Tough job and she does it with a lovely attitude and a smile. Also, Olga at the coffee spot outside the Casino, who I happened onto on her first day working that station. Very well done. Also Mary, our Concierge, fixed everything Hard Rock's awful booking system couldn't seem to fathom. We never got a butler (our booking said we should) but Mary functioned as one, even texting us after she went home. Really Outstanding Service, for which we were very grateful. The beach: Nice powdery soft sand. Good ocean temp. Beautiful. Not good for swimming or water sports, but good to get wet in to cool off. Who cares, get a drink from the bar, relax and enjoy. Just perfect. Not a fan of the vendors but they need to eat too. Food was decent with one exception, I will address that in "Negatives." First night was the buffet, which because of Covid has wait staff who bring your selections from the menu. Still very buffet-like, just no going up to the sneeze guard to grab your own grub. It was about what we expected: Bargain Cruise level buffet. Think Carnival on a port day. Ipanema was actually quite good. Lots of chicken and pork, little bits of beef here and there. Overall very nice, good atmosphere, good service. Los Gallos-probably not what you were expecting if you thought you were going out for Mexican Food or Tex-Mex, but we all liked it. Order something that sounds good and it likely will be. Keep in mind, this Hard Rock is not an exclusively "American" destination, there are a lot of Latin American Tourists here as well. The idea seems to be to cater to a broader culinary experience. Toro-The free steak (NY Strip, I think) was huge and decent. Perfectly cooked to order. The Filet ($45.00 US additional) was phenomenal. For 45 bucks, it should be. Get a nice wine, have a really nice dinner with a pool and ocean view. Currently serving out of the ISLA space, check the schedule. Zen-Asian Fusion It's your local Hibachi grill, except you really don't order. You can't, for example specify "Steak and Tired Lobster" you get beef, chicken and if you like, shrimp. Everyone gets the same thing, including Miso Soup, a small sampling of innocuous "sushi" , fried rice and Chicken/Beef/Shrimp. We all liked it, one note: much lower Soy Sauce Content that you are probably accustomed to. Not a bad thing. Breakfasts are standard fare done pretty well. Go early or stand in line with people who aren't very good at standing in line with courtesy. Personally, I'm more of just a coffee person. The coffee was good, but I am puzzled at the logic of using shelf stable milk? What? Great way to make just about anything good turn meh. Maybe fresh milk isn't a thing in the DR, but it should be. With an average shelf life of a month, refrigerated milk and cream are definitely worth doing. Easy fix, they just need to do it. That, and offer larger cups. It's a long damn walk. make it worth my while. Overall the entire facility is clean and well kept, with the exception of the guest rooms. It feels like Vegas on the ocean kind of, and the landscaping is beautiful. If that's your vibe, you will love it. Except for maybe this: Negatives: Food: The Italian place where the steaks were literally inedible. Seemed tired beef was soaked back to life in Balsamic Vinegar. Because that's Italian cooking? Um..no...That's the accounting dept. running the kitchen, and it showed. Use better judgement. Experience: The guitars they have to loan out are a LOT harder to get than they make it seem. I understand limited supply, but if I get one (I did after waiting a couple days) and the Front Desk calls asking for it back the very next day (we booked 7 nights) what the heck is the point? I play, I was enjoying it, but I gave it back so someone else could do the same. This is an odd dynamic. Do it well or don't do it. Check in: For us was slow. No one in front of us, just took way too long. Is 20 minutes to get wristbands, room keys for a single room and brief directions to a room? Yes it is. 30 minutes, therefore, is much too long. Much like Wizard of Oz, the desk staff had to disappear behind a curtain for a bit for anything to actually occur in the great hall. I've had better check in experiences at a Motel Six, when i just walked in the door and took a room without a reservation. They also left the light on for me, so there's that. This needs improvement. Not sure what's broken, likely the Opera system, but holy moly get that fixed. Nice people in there, just no effective processes in place to move people swiftly. Golf cart rental: OK you've probably read the reviews from people saying you need to rent a cart to drive around in. We did, we were glad we did. Even at less than 50% occupancy, waiting for the tram is a bit annoying. You've heard everyone else say it, so here goes: This place is huge. That said, for 90 bucks a day, you'll be lucky to drive it 3 miles a day. If you are in decent shape, walk it or take the tram. Luis at the golf cart rental place is awesome. Our reservation (prepaid) got screwed up, it took him a day, but it got fixed. It was also a bit difficult to return, they don't open until 9, so if you're leaving for the airport at 8 am, you CAN'T return it. You literally have to return it a day early before they close or you are stuck. And don't expect a refund for that day you didn't use! Positives and negatives both, but overall experientially a negative. Still curious to see how the accounting works out on this. Since we received our cart late, they were to refund my card and charge it to the room for a reduced time period. No refund yet, 10 days later. I will be tracking this. The hard sell: lots of complaints on here about the timeshare selling. We got lucky, those folks were gone for the day by the time we checked in. They still hunted us down, even called us at 8 am (this is a party foul) but we just said no. Remain calm and polite, just say no. The pools: Lots of pools. I don't get in pools often. I didn't fly to a foreign country to swim in a pool. I have one in my back yard. I was looking forward, however, to the swim up bar. It was closed. Covid, apparently. I fail to see the logic: In the pool we are surrounded by a caustic chemical that sanitizes everything. Seems safe, but whatever. The Beer Selection: Presidente and Presidente Light. Hope you like them. It's all they have. Presidente is actually on par with most major American brands, better than most actually and far better than Corona or Modelo. I ended up liking it. Took a lot of tries, but practice and perseverance saved the day. A note on our room: Comfy beds, reasonably clean. Dated and well past its prime. Think Susan Sarandon in a sexy sun dress. It's Susan Sarandon, in a sun dress! Thirty, maybe forty years ago: Oh yes, yes Susan, oh hell yes. Now: Jesus! Susan, have you lost your senses? (she has.) The room could probably be fixed up nicely by a couple tradesmen in a couple days. Neither Susan nor I, at this point , are able to be restored. I think it is more a reflection of the attitude of the OWNERSHIP of Hard Rock than anyone else that they would knowingly charge 300-600 (or more) per night for a room that has water damaged doors, shower doors that don't close, paint jobs that manage to paint the walls, the trim, the floor, the tile, jury-rigged plumbing fixtures...I could go on. It's a shame. It's a nice setting. Put some actual effort into restoring it, making repairs and doing them well. That's enough. We enjoyed our vacation.

Our stay in Hard Rock is been very pleasant. We had a caricature done by Sam. He did a great job, he is very nice and talkative. He did an impressive job in 15 min. You can find Sam by the pools and if you are not sure he can show you some of the jobs he has done. You won’t regret it. This drawing is a great memory to keep. Thanks Sam.
