Detailed Reviews
Not our first trip to Hard Rock but had another incredible vacation. This time we stayed for 10 days & opted for the Rock Royalty level. One perk of Rock Royalty is access to a butler. When I say our butler Eli (Eliazar Heredia Ramos) was amazing that is an understatement. Eli was very attentive, made all of our dinner reservations (even for restaurants that had no availability) & was there anytime we needed him. He understood the assignment of dealing with fussy Americans :-). When Eli was away his partner Leo (Leonel) was amazing as well. While Rock Royalty is a bit more expensive the additional perks & better room location are well worth it.
We also decided that instead of fighting for seats @ the central pool every day we would rent a cabana for the duration of the trip. Eli handled this as well, I didn't have to do anything. Speaking of Eli, he even surprised used with a beautiful charcuterie board for lunch while @ the pool (he is our new favorite person). Our pool servers were Gladys & Yuca, WE LOVE THEM!! They were oh so attentive & met all of our needs, even going to the food trucks to get us lunch (definitely going above & beyond). We found a cabana that we loved & when we stated we wanted the same one every day they made sure we had it.
Remember although all-inclusive may say tips are included, please tip your servers, your housekeeper daily (on the pillow) & your butler, they appreciate it. Tipping also ensures faster/better service!!
Fun fact: rent a golf cart, so worth it when driving from one side of the property to the other. I cannot wait for a shuttle to go from the beach to the lobby so the expense was worth it!!

Our family of 5 visited with another family of 5 during March break week. We had been to the resort before about eight years ago. For our room, we had the rock family suite which was a very nice room spacious and clean, but it only had one king bed so our three children had to sleep on 2 pullout couches which is not ideal or comfortable. We found the rooms to not have a ton of privacy. There is two bathrooms, but all the doors are sliding some are just frosted and I don’t think they lock or sometimes they don’t even slide closed very well so privacy and use of washroom was tricky with the 5 of us. The mini fridge was restocked daily with beer, water and pop. I found the closet / storage space to be small for 5 people to spread out their things. The air conditioner worked well, but it was a bit loud if you were trying to watch TV. If we were to return for a third time we would look at a different room category so that we could have more beds in our room or more privacy or adjoining rooms or something. The resort is huge. Our room was in building 3 a bit closer to the lobby area. It was quite busy the week we were there. There was a rock concert on the beach that we didn’t know about so at times and in certain areas, it was quite loud. We were able to upgrade to legendary which us allowed us access to the Isla pool, which made for a much more pleasant vacation because it was a less crowded pool and more quiet on the far end of the resort and the beachfront by that pool was was deserted. The servers by the Isla pool were wonderful and attentive. The beach at the hard rock is as beautiful as I remember it from 8 years ago. Nice and clean and huge. Nice clear water no seaweed quite shallow for a ways out, but it was wavy. We had red flag and yellow flag days and I remember it was like that last time we were there 8 years ago, so I’m not sure if they ever get calm water days there….. the food at the restaurants I would give a B. It wasn’t horrible and it wasn’t excellent. Certain restaurants at certain times there was long waits to get in approximately an hour for the Italian, for example. Out of our party of 10 - there was 2 that felt sick on certain nights whether it was something they ate, drank or too much sun we will never know! lol. The addition of the waterpark was a nice touch that our kids enjoyed a bit their one wish was more variety of slides. It was never too busy there and even though our kids are a bit older they do still need to be accompanied by an adult. There is a ton of activities (arcade, bowling, laser tags, escape room, virtual reality) to do in the main lobby in the evenings or to get out of the sun which is nice unfortunately, these are all extra money which adds up quick! Went to the spa once and it was enjoyable. It’s very cave/grotto like. Had a relaxation massage which was nice and did a bit of the hydrotherapy. There is a bit of a language barrier with some of the employees but that is to be expected and we found 95% of the employees to be lovely and helpful. We also found the resort to be clean.

Check in was atrocious. We arrived at 11pm and stood around for 45 minutes waiting to check in. After we finally got that done we then waited another 35 minutes for someone to take our bags and us to our room because we had no idea where to go. No one actually came for that, I offered some employee $50 to take us to our room. We finally get to our room and its now around 12:30, we are absolutely exhausted. I open the pull out couch for our two young kids to sleep on and there is no sheets or blankets on the bed. We call front desk and wait another 20 minutes for them to bring us sheets and blankets. My wife and I made the kid's bed and finally got to bed ourselves arround 1:15am.
Other than that the trip was mostly great and the service was so good except two things that really stuck with me and they are the reason I'll likely never go back to Hard Rock.
There was a serious lack of umbrellas at all the pools except the Pools reserved for Hall of Fame. At the not reserved pools there was reserved seats with little signs: reserved for . I wanted Hall of Fame but I was told when booking it wasn't available to families with kids. This was shocking to me when I got there were kids everywhere with Hall of Fame bracelets. By 8am we would have to be at the pool every morning to find a spot with some controllable shade. If you got to the pool at 10 it was pretty hard to find any three seats together that didn't have towels on it already let alone all the ones "reserved for family". Worst part of that was those people rarely ever showed up
Second thing was the prices for spa are insane: over $800usd for couples massage is nuts. I may not be rich but we are very well off still there is no way to justify that. Thats over $1150 CAD
-The food rated 2nd all time of our trips with only Planet Hollywood Cancun being better
-The staff were as good or better than anywhere we have ever been
-The cleanliness was as good or better than anywhere we have been
-The ice cream shop ran out of chocolate ice cream on day 1 of our 9 day there. This isn't a huge deal but I own a company and I can assure you I wouldn't be out of our most popular product. I know it's there most popular there because the staff told me they always run out of chocolate.
All and all was pretty good trip but those few things are hard to get over

Came here 6 years ago and this place has gone so downhill so much.’
The biggest problem is the resort is so overcrowded it’s unreal, not one sun lounger free by any of the pools, people just put the towels down and leave them for hours or don’t return at all, leaving people wondering around looking for loungers, thinking they are all taken.
They need a towel card system so people hand the towels back In to get their towel card returned. This will really help this problem.
We are still here now and every night we have had to wait at least a hour and a half to be seated in the evening, then the service is terrible, the staff really need some training.
They work really hard and we really appreciate that but wow it really is bad.
Breakfast is around a 30 min wait but the lines for omelettes is just crazy with just one person doing them, same with pasta stations and food trucks.
The bar lines are also very long with just one person serving on most bars.
The food has been very average and usually cold the drinks are terrible for a so called 5 star resort and definitely watered down, the beer is just basically fizzy water, it’s awful. (Top Tip, ask for Tagus beer in a can, they will get it for you if you give a good tip, shouldn’t have to but the only way to get a decent beer).
Our room wasn’t cleaned at all 2 separate days which isn’t a big problem to us, but not having any towels or body wash to shower when you come back to the room is, at least a hour wait each time after phoning reception.
We were going to book for 2 weeks but really glad we only booked for one now
We definitely will not be returning.
Everywhere is overcrowded,

I’m genuinely curious why there are so many good reviews of this resort. I guess different people like different things. I like to walk into my room and not almost break my neck because the floor is soaking wet and as slippery as an ice rink. I like reasonably good food that I’m not terrified is going to make me sick (as it did my friends). I like room service that doesn’t come with a packet of cheap plastic silverware. I like to order a cocktail that’s not straight vodka, and heck, I like an IPA. I like to be able to access my room via elevators that work OR stairs that aren’t shut down for painting. I like to be able to walk from place to place without almost getting hit by zooming golf carts, and, oh, I also like to walk places at night with enough lighting that I’m not nervous about my safety.
But I don’t know, maybe that makes me picky. You tell me.
Luckily I was here for work and didn’t have to feel bad about spending my own money on the trip. I could just go home with relief, and with no plans to ever return.

Where to start. 1st 10 minutes my toilet broke, then I walk out on to my balcony and slid in an inch of water (it didn't rain) The tub was stuck full of water. Then I couldn't sleep because it was so hot in my room 77⁰ when ac was set to 65. I called they came out and took the dirty filter out (didn't replace it) then he overrides the thermostat and sets it for 60 and says "all fixed it's good now" I said No it's not it's still 77⁰ no matter what you set it for. He got mad and left. I asked for a new room. NO joke I had to walk back and forth to the front 4 times 8 trips was 6 miles according to my step counter. They kept messing up my bracelet so I couldn't get in. I asked to speak to a manager 2 days ago still no contact. They came knocking on my door when I was trying to sleep even after I asked them twice not to come to my room. They sent me a message on what's app saying they wanted to come to my room to ask me if I found my phone charger. You just asked me and I answered why come to my room? That was a big deal 3 phone calls several what's app messages and I ended up walking to my old room and getting it myself. Somehow my bracelet worked on that door lol it's there country I get that so they don't need to speak English however If your job is to speak with tourists who almost all speak English maybe those folks should but most didn't speak any English. My poor friend wanted a hamburger with nothing on it at a place that only served hamburgers and the guy didn't understand what plain ment. It was like a comedy sketch (she didn't find it funny) the very next guy asked for the same thing and it started all over seriously if you only have hamburgers it's not too hard to understand nothing on it. I woke to a bug running on me, me friend woke covered in bites. Several in the group had rooms that did not go under the high 70s and someone else had a toilet flood the room in the middle of the night
the list of problemsfor all of us is very long . The beach staff was rude! You pay $100 for a cabana when other all inclusives include that then you are inundated with people trying to sell you stuff the entire time and when you say no they get rude. Or ask you for stuff like drinks or food. I'm here to relax but they stressed me out! This is not all inclusive! It should say room and food. Everything else is extra. Actually some of the food is as well. I didn't ask for anything but they really should have offered something for everything. I waisted hours trying to get a room with working ac. I paid extra for ocean view and all I see is hut roofs.

We leave our humble opinion hoping it will serve other travelers.
We stayed in an Islander Junior Suite and facilities-wise the hotel is really impressive. The room was huge and comfortable, although the bathroom door was somewhat difficult to close, a minor detail that did not affect our experience.
The beach is a 10 and the overall hotel looks well maintained, although in some quarters there were maintenance details. Still, we always saw staff working on it.
The style of the hotel is clearly geared towards the American public, so much so that even some employees told us that very little Dominican Republic music passes. We would have liked a little more local atmosphere. Also, we coincided with the US Spring Break, so the hotel was full of teenagers, which made the atmosphere not the best to rest. If you are looking for peace of mind, avoid March.
An important point to note is that although the hotel is all-inclusive, many attractions within the resort come at an additional cost, which surprised us. It is something to consider if you plan to take advantage of all the activities of the hotel.
What struck us the most (and not for good) was the service of the staff. There are many employees, but the organization leaves much to be desired. The first day they cleaned the room but not the hot tub, the second day they didn't do it directly, they just left the provisions of the fridge. We had to call for clean towels.
Although the employees are friendly and always with a smile, they are tired and often attend reluctantly. On several occasions, they brought us drinks at the end of the meal, at breakfast we had to order coffee several times, and at the restaurant El Toro (where the food is excellent), they forgot the breadbasket and brought it when we were already ordering dessert.
Unfortunately, we would not elect him again. For the same price (or even less), there are other chains that offer much better service. We went with many hopes based on the references, but the reality left us disappointed.

Here is my experience - we are not members but my brother is a Chairmen member so status does matter as this is a time share sales mentality. Members are spending north of $150,000 to join this Hard Rock Club and everyone of them has expectations. They want to flex what color arm band they have because many memberships and rooms come with a Butler. This leads to who has chairs at the pool or beach and leaves many wondering how to enjoy their vacations. Most people I encountered, love the beach - its very pretty, water was warm but it's rough and not suitable for kids to play in beyond about 10 yards into the surf. The staff for the most part are rude - they are over worked, only really respond to tips and if you are not fluent in Spanish, it is at times a language barrier to your success.
The food sucked. No two ways to describe it. Fortunately, we had reservations but if you don't. the struggle is real to figure out how to eat. There were numerous issues with stomach bugs, both ends and heard it over and over again throughout the week. The only meal you could count on was breakfast as an American - yes I could have eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast and coffee but after breakfast, things got challenging. Zen is fine, hibachi dinner you get at home. Ciao weird offerings of Italian (why not just serve spaghetti, lasagna and other popular dishes) The Mexican restaurant sucked and so did the Brazilian steak house, everything is over cooked and sadly, lacks quality. The Steakhouse I had hoped would save me and the dinner took 2 hours, they spilled a drink all over my son and never apologized while ruining his outfit with fruit punch mix and 4 people got their food and were finished before the other 6 meals showed up for a party of 10. This would never happen at a Steakhouse here at home or they would be buying the whole table - just saying, you know how it goes.
Transportation to and from is sketchy, private transportation had us waiting an hours then getting in an unmarked old van that did take us to the resort. The resort is about 30 minutes from the airport.
So wrapping this up, know what your expectations are before you spend your money. I did not feel like this was a value for my family trip of adults. One week, about $25k expense including airfare gives you a lot of options across the islands.

The Hard Rock Punta Cana did not meet my expectations. Someone from Hard Rock needs to take a good look at this resort because it’s damaging their brand.
My friends & I flew to the Dominican Republic in September of 2024.
We were invited to the Hard Rock DR by the Legendary Vacation Club in Unico in MX. This was not a free trip by any means, but we were given a slight discount.
We scheduled our private transportation from the airport to the hotel through the Hard Rock. As we were loading our bags into our bus, someone approached us, and asked us if we wanted alcohol, our friends agreed and he gave us a six pack of cheap beer; he insinuated that he was with our transport group.
After he opened the beers, he demanded $75 for the six pack and told us there would be problems if we didn’t pay. The driver could and should have stepped in to stop that from happening, but we suspect that he was in on it.
As we were checking in all three groups asked staff to book us close to one another; which never happened. We were each booked in completely different sections of the resort. Which doesn’t sound bad until you realize how large this resort is (the resort is too big). It took us approximately 15-20 minutes to walk to our friend’s room.
After we checked-in we met with our Legendary guide who told us we’d be attending a 90 minute tour the next day. We knew the purpose of this tour was to sell us on the Legendary experience.
The tour wound up taking over 3 hours. This ate up half a day of our vacation. Also the resort credits we were promised were very hard to use (we believe this was intentional).
After the 3 hour tour we tried to go to the beach. As soon as we got to the beach we were moved from our location (for members) to another location. Speaking of the beach they let people walk around and ask you if you want anything. You’ll frequently have people selling art and cigars come up and try to sell you things.
After that we tried to go to the pool where we were denied entry, so we went to another pool where security told us we weren’t allowed. After some back and fourth we were told that we should have been allowed in the first pool. None of these areas are clearly marked.
If you look at the reviews of this hotel you’ll notice a lot of people mention their air-conditioners, and it’s because the AC units in these rooms are not capable of keeping up with the heat in the DR. Our party had three different rooms and none of them were able to get the room below 75 degrees F.
The food at the resort is not good. Most of the restaurants are setup like buffets and unless you pay for the immersive dinning experience ($300+ for a couple) you won’t get anything better than what you’d get at a cheap buffet in the United States.
I also wouldn't consider this resort all-inclusive. The bowling is extra, the VR is extra, anything you want to do outside of swimming and eating at the buffets is likely going to cost you extra. We even had to pay extra for two pineapple drinks at one of the pool bars.
The only positive experiences we had at this resort were at the spa, and the immersive dining experience and both cost extra $$$.

Do not book this hotel- it is a scam. They advertise it as an all-inclusive resort but the restaurants are so busy that it is difficult to get a table for dinner and even when you get a table, the wait times are ridiculous. Plan on eating about 2 hours after you reach the restaurant.
Pools/beaches are fully packed, you have to go early to get a lounge chair. It was worth it to rent a bed at a cost of $200 dollars. Even at the beach.
The rooms are far from everything, and you need to take golf cart/trolleys everywhere which alot of times are packed and you are again having long waits.
They con you into listening to a breakfast regarding their 'legendary vacation club' which has nothing to do with the hard rock brand. They say it is only a breakfast which will give you some resort credit but then make you stay the whole morrning to listen to multiple people try to con you into this plan. If you read other members reviews, it is a terrible vacation club.
The casino staff were rude. The spa was the saving grace of the resort.
The last night we had planned and paid for the Awaken your senses dinner and after waiting long, they said they had 'IT problems' and pretty much tried to refuse the refund. They were speaking in Spanish- saying to avoid refunding any money at any cost not realizing that we could understand Spanish.
The resort credits they promise you are booked through vacation planners and difficult to change and are inflexible. When you check out, they charge you wrong prices.
Transportation from the airport to the hotel is terrible, disorganized, again you wait long.
When at the beach they run out of food- no hamburgers/hot dogs/ice cream/french fries. They are not supplied correctly for the demand.
I ate way less than I would have expected.
I have been to the multiple places in the Caribbean over my lifetime (probably over 30 times) and this is by far my worse experience.
