In normal years I am a bit hesitant to stay at Ritz Carlton Reserve hotels because they do not participate in Bonvoy, however this year renewing status with many hotel chains is easier so staying at RCR was less of an issue and we decided to go to Phulay Bay. The hotel informed us that baby Minnie was their youngest guest ever to check-in at the age of 5 weeks old and they did their utmost to ensure we had a comfortable stay. We were all alone on the resort except a couple of days in the middle of our stay where one couple showed up, so we could not possibly have had a more peaceful and relaxing time; I can highly recommend this hotel for a premium luxury experience. RCR hotels do not have to upgrade Marriott Bonvoy elite guests but Phulay Bay is aware of guest elite status and they do upgrade depending on the circumstances. This time was no exception – I booked the second room type and we received an upgrade to the Reserve Pool Villa. This is one heck of a stunning villa, the word ‘grandiose’ would come to mind with the cathedral ceiling in the bathroom including sky light, the huge thick wood doors with Thai paintings, the indoor bathtub in a greenhouse tower, the gigantic 4-meter wide bed, and lots of real estate space outdoors with Japanese-style design including a private pool in front and an outdoor tub in the back. All in all, a great property which has been very well maintained since it opened 16 years ago. The one downside of this resort in my opinion is that many room types do not have the most fantastic sea views, in fact some premium room types only have modest views which is in contrast more hilly resorts in Phuket and Koh Samui. The villa was also not purely stand-alone – the pool villas are arranged in blocks of two so we had a large door outside which could serve as a connecting door with the adjoining villa. Obviously since we were alone on the resort this was a non-issue but in different circumstances for top luxury I wonder how privacy would feel. Despite the unusual circumstances, I did not notice any kind of slippage in service which was great from A to Z. They were very well prepared for our arrival with lots of useful baby amenities such as a sterilizer for baby bottles, shampoo and lotion for infants, diaper garbage can, etc. We could also order lots of off the menu items with ingredients which optimize breastfeeding, housekeeping was offered twice a day, they kept one restaurant open only for us or alternatively in-room breakfast was available too, special pillows we ordered were ready for us in the room upon our arrival, and butler service was available to serve us alone. We also received a nice turndown amenity every night (usually a local dessert) which was appreciated. The breakfast menu was not the most luxurious I have seen in Thailand but the quality of the ingredients was excellent and the venue very nice overlooking the pool and the sea. I especially enjoyed the avocado toast which was an interesting blend of smooth textures with hummus and sweet juicy mangoes. The Kanom Jeen dish was also delicious and provided a special southern Thai touch to the menu. I would also note that many ingredients they use for cooking are grown in the resort garden and fully organic. The beach is not the strong point of Phulay Bay but they normally have a shuttle boat to take guests to Hong Island nearby for a fun day trip expedition but it was not available this time due to covid restrictions. For people who want a more quiet destination than Phuket or Koh Samui, Krabi is a good choice but the downside is that there are not as many hotels to choose from. In the luxury space, there is a new Banyan Tree nearby which opened a few months ago, but BT is also non-participating in the Accor program. Anyway, I wish expensive stays at Phulay Bay could help make progress towards the $20k USD required spend to renew Ambassador status in normal years, but the property is special which will draw us back nonetheless.

Dear WorldWideTravel88, On behalf of all the Ladies and Gentlemen at Phulay Bay, thank you for coming to stay with us and taking time to write such a valuable review on Tripadvisor. This means a lot to us and gives purpose in all we do in Hospitality. Despite the circumstances and restrictions in the Tourism industry nowadays, we remain confident and ready for a positive recovery. Your visit and review give us a lot of motivation and strength to go thru this. I'm glad to read your lines and to know that you've had a very relaxing stay at Phulay Bay- It was definitely a private one! It was lovely to meet you personally and to witness how Baby Minnie is already making herself comfortable at our luxury property. We have confidence that she will be one of our valuable loyal guests when she grows up. As you pointed out, despite not participating fully in the Marriott Bonvoy program, we do value the loyalty of our members and in the vast majority of the times offer the same benefits and advantages when they come experience Phulay Bay. Thank you again for this positive review and comments. We wish to welcome you again in the near future and see Baby Minnie grow- Congratulations! Warm regards, Anthony Smekens General Manager

Back here after 2-3 years. The resort is still in a very good condition. Staffs are still very friendly and professional. There are basically two high standard resorts with extraordinary view of the Phuket/Krabi/Phang Nga archipelago. It's here and the SS Yao Noi. Services here is great, food are good....they can customise some local dishes for you with advanced request. Staffs remember what drinks you ordered in the first breakfast and offer the same smoothly. However, they have compromised different things, resort maintenance, restaurant options, butler services are not as best as pre-COVID period. But that does not mean that this compromised level is bad but not as perfect as before. Their complimentary resort activity programme is qutie a good initiative. Another resort, i caneasily go back without much thoughts needed.

Dear Khun Nat, I would like to thank you for your loyalty and for coming back to stay with us! We're blessed to count on you and happy to read your review online. Thank you very much for sharing your comments and satisfaction. We strive to daily meet and exceed the guests expectations, and we feel we do achieve it after reading your review. This ongoing pandemic situation is definitely one of the most challenging times for the entire Tourism industry; so we have had to adjust some of our outlets as there are less travelers in the Kingdom of Thailand at this moment. As for our Butlers team, please rest assured that we have protected their job and all of our loyal and well trained Butlers are still with us. We take advantage for them to clear some holidays so they will be back on property fresh and full of energy as soon as travel is safe again. We look forward to welcome you back anytime you come to the South, Khun Nat. Please do stay in touch, and until then, also take good care in Bangkok. Warm regards, Anthony Smekens General Manager

I would say go to the Ritz Carlton if you fancy it. There is nothing that should put you off in terms of the service, staff or location (if you are happy without a beach). Food was excellent. The executive chef was a delight and very engaged and engaging. We had one small problem with a meal and he was mortified and took a very professional interest in our eating for the duration of our stay which certainly enhanced the visit. Staff were perfection. Just Thai delightful but not fawning – great people. The pool area is stunning (albeit maybe a little tired) with huge space to find your own nook. Me? I was slightly weirded out by the strange purple arrival pavilions. All very cool but not very welcoming. I guess it is the hallmark of a retreat rather than a resort. Then the purple continued through all the buildings and I determined I really didn’t like it. Our room (upgraded thank you) was a great space but difficult (for me) to be comfortable in. Outside we had a lounging bed with no back and two very large triangular cushions which in my experience look great but fail to support. The dining chairs had no cushions on the back. The huge bed took up too much space meaning the internal seating area was mean. And on this (mad) bed clearly you are meant to look out to the view but for us it was better to sleep portrait rather than landscape as it meant easy access in and out. The bathroom … well not sure where to start. The whole is a triumph of style over substance and probably more fitted to Dubai than Thailand. Very much a matter of personal taste however and I am sure some would love it.

We just got back from 3 nights stay at Phulay Bay Ritz Carlton. Our family (2 adults + 1 boy) stayed in two types of rooms (Reserve pavilion Pool villa and Beach villa) All the rooms are located in the beautiful garden. You dont really see other guests unless you go breakfast. Reserve pavilion pool villa is HUGE - good to play hide and seek :) two bathtubs (indoor and outdoor), separated shower and toilet, pool with deck and the best thing is the gigantic bed. You will never fall out of your bed here! the length is like 3 m.! For us, this room is a bit too big for our family. Beach villa which just got renovated is the best fit for us. Bigger day bed for our kid and good decoration inside. Beach villa is not as big as the reserve pavilion but it has all the things we need. Next visit will definitely be beach villa. Breakfast is good (with prosecco) Food and beverage in general is quite costly. Food tastes good. Wine selection is quite limited. No happy hour (quite disappointing) A trip to Hong Island is amazing! Besides the good atmosphere and the room (beach villa), the service is the most important factor for us to come back to Phulay Bay. Our butler, "Thon Hong" Seed made our stay even more special. His service is not too much and not too little - we like him a lot and definitely request for Seed for our next stay. We will definitely go back to stay at Phulay Bay.

Dear BKKTHTraveller, Warm greetings from Krabi and thank you for leaving this nice and detailed review after your stay with us. We're blessed and happy to read all these details. You describe our different room types so well that this will definitely be helpful for other travelers too. The beds in some of our room types are indeed out of the ordinary! To be precise, 4metres long, and as you mentioned, enough to roll around and not fall from the bed. I take note on the Food and Beverage suggestion and will look into the possibility to offer some happy hour at a certain point of the day. I will pass along the comments to Khun Seed. This will make him extremely happy. He's already a very joyful person, so when he will read your lines he will definitely jump from excitement. We recall you well and have fond memories of our interactions during your stay with us. I send you my best personal regards too and will be waiting for your next visit down to the South then.
