This past weekend we made our way to Creighton for a steam-train ride through the blooming aloes. The organisation of the Festival was really well done and you are allowed to pack a picnic basket or buy snacks and drinks on board. I will definitely be doing the festival again. As accommodation in Creighton is limited, we decided to stay... More

My single room's accommodation was welcoming, homely, clean and very comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The setting of the retreat was relaxing and a walk around the property was interesting. The chapel and the old mill certainly have much history. The breakfast was hearty and the evening meal's selection was very good. A definite stop over again... More

The place is lovely with gardens and walkways the food was really delicious. We enjoyed our stay if you want to be off the rat race. With a chapel and variety of rooms the place is caters for different travellers. For those who want a quiet peaceful retreat this is ideal.

Our group of travellers were on a tour of selected 1880's Trappist mission stations. A bonus was to be accommodated on this former mission station, in delightfully adapted accommodation previously housing nuns of the Order of Precious Blood and members of the Trappist order. I stayed in a cottage named Hermitage 3, with twin beds en-suite which was luxuriously finished.... More

Situated near to Ixopo in Kwa Zulu Natal, the Guest House was previously a Trappist Monastery and offers a variety of accommodation choices from a fairly small bedroom (on suite) to very spacious accommodation called the “honeymoon suite”. The food was outstanding and varied and the service and attention we enjoyed was 100%. The buildings were built around 1890 and... More

Unexpectedly charming, with a lot of history if you're interested. "Wild", indigenous and spacious gardens to walk around in, and beautiful old (Trappist Monk) buildings. The Superior rooms are very comfortable, although a little basic but with a good TV bouquet selection. Cell signal is almost non-existent, but that is probably a perk, and free Wifi is available. If there... More

An easy hour's drive from Pietermaritzburg, nestling in the romantic St.Isidor Valley, King's Grant Country Retreat can be found. Ideally situated, we stayed on a dinner bed and breakfast basis for two nights while on business in central Ixopo. Built in 1891 by German Trappist monks, we were captivated by the charm and rustic appeal of the place. The rooms... More

Kings Grant built in 1891 is nestled in the heart of the Isidor Valley in Ixopo, approximately 1,5 hrs from Durban. I had a weekend stay. My first thoughts, hmmm interesting. We were greeted by Cheryl, pleasant and friendly, reception area, bland with some interesting paintings and a couple of items for sale. We were shown to our room, quite... More

We stayed in self catering accommodation - a superior room and a standard room - both were surprisingly spacious with the superior room having the benefit of a much appreciated fireplace, a separate eating area, a full bath and a better kitchen. The beds were cosy and comfortable and the standard of furnishing reasonable and clean. In the kitchen, a... More
