Hibiscus Villa Villa - The fixtures were rusted - The washroom roof leaked through when it rained - There was so much dust/dirt under the bed - Their hot water connection was under repair (We were offered a 20% discount off our food for the inconvenience) - The room a bit too dark for our liking Outdoors - Too many mosquitoes to enjoy the comfort of it (They do provide offer preventatives but it still dampens the experience) - The garden lights were broken On the other hand, - The Staffs, especially Mr. George was very friendly. They went to lengths to make our stay was pleasant. - The owners of the establishment are very responsive too. - It is a great place for a getaway to enjoy quality time with loved ones. In Conclusion, we did not get to enjoy Villa for the price we paid. That in itself was a huge disappointment.

Though it's not a full fledged resort, the amenities and service are at par with the best. The villa is exactly like the pictures, maybe even a bit better. The food is fabulous. Guests can enjoy complete privacy. Less than 5 mins walk from the villa there is a pristine beach. Marari Villa set the bar quite high for the other hotels we visited on our honeymoon. Special thanks to George for the amazing hospitality and taking care of our every need.

Response from MarariVillas, Owner at Marari Villas

Dear JJ_Jatin_Jhaveri, Thank you for your wonderful review. You are right that we are not a 'fully fledged resort' and that's exactly what our guests love - a 'holiday home experience with all the service of a superior hotel, on call, when YOU want it'. We are glad that we contributed to a memorable honeymoon for you and hope you'll return to celebrate your anniversaries for years to come : ) Very warm regards and congratulations once again, Olga, Rupert and the Marari Villas family

We stumbled upon Marari Villas whilst looking for a beach location to finish our 3 week India trip after spending a few nights on a houseboat. Firstly Olga & Rupert are very responsive and happily answer all your questions. We ended up staying in Lotus in the “suite” which was massive! It’s actually a large beach villa with two rooms at each end (so plenty of privacy), a decent size pool and a shared dinning space between. Each villa has a host - ours was amazing and a big part of how much we loved this place. He was very attentive but equally gave us totally privacy. Nothing was too much trouble and he made an additional lunch choice when he realised that we were sharing options. All meals are cooked in the house by an excellent chef and require a few hours notice (apart from breakfast). They’ve created a 7 day Indian menu which works extremely well and by chance our final night was bbq night - grilled Indian food under the stars by candlelight. Perfect. Sadly the beach immediately outside our villa has been ruined by storms/waves/monsoons/global warming but they have their own private beach 2km away (they’ll arrange a tuktuk). We went there 3 days in a row and had the entire place up ourselves. The sea is warm with fairly big waves (but calmer once past the break). Highly recommend this place. And we saw a small pod of dolphins right outside the villa on our final day too.

We checked into the Lotus Villa for three amazing days. The villas are visually stunning and warm and welcoming. You are literally a stone's throw from the waves! Our four kids loved the pool and the close proximity to the water. Watching fisherman brining in their catch in the morning/evening or dolphins jumping was so much fun. The kids loved chasing the crabs into their holes as well. The villa is also very close to local shops. We left the kids for a nice walk through the town. My wife bought several dresses in the town and we got some snacks to bring back. If you've traveled through Kerela, then you know how difficult it is to get alcohol. The staff helped me arrange a driver who took me to the city alcohol shop. They allowed me to avoid the lines in front and go behind into the backroom and buy a nice selection of local whiskey, gin, and beer. The hosts were super gracious. The food was absolutely stunning in visual presentation and so tasty! The mix of Western and Indian dishes were always made to perfection and no one left the table hungry! I took a master class and learned to make prawn curry and other Kerelan specialties. If we go back to Kerela, this villa will be on our agenda!

Marari Villa – Lotus Villa was a special treat. We were graciously welcomed by our host, given a delicious cool drink, a tour of the villa and took our order for lunch. We spent the next hour relaxing just outside our room, taking in the stunning view of the Arabian Sea. Our host arranged for a Shikara Boat Ride through the backwaters and upon returning, had a private cooking session with the chef! We selected the entrees we wanted to prepare in advance and spent a lovely couple of hours learning how to make each of them, in a beautiful open dining area while feeling the breeze off the sea and listening to the waves crash. Our room was absolutely lovely; it was clean, comfortable and had everything we might possibly need (sunscreen, bug coils, beach towels). And as we were women traveling alone, we felt completely safe. It was a perfect ending to our Kerala tour.
