The prostitutes are the fluffiest I've ever felt. My son just turned 16 back in February and had trouble in school picking up girls. The girls here were very welcoming and kind, and there is a future for my son because the owner of a brothel offered him a job once he turns 18! The locals are very kind and giving and we will definitely be visiting again when my daughter turns 16.

Restaurants, the beach, and pool areas are all great. The food was good - always enough variety to suit most’s tastes. Nightly entertainment was good as well. Overall the main things are good. However, from speaking with guests, a recent change in management has worsened the experience. The resort is mostly locals on the weekends, and about 50% during the week. This would be fine if it wasn’t for the ill-treatment from a lot of the locals towards foreign guests. I couldn’t count how many times I was cut in line at the bar/restaurants. I had my cutlery tried to be taken off of my clearly occupied table. You would walk by and get the dirtiest looks. The staff will serve you last based off of you being a foreigner despite waiting for your turn “in line”. We had to take our own drinks into the restaurants from the bar, as some staff would ignore you trying to get your water glass filled while the locals tables get trays of drink refills. It tainted the experience and was beyond the occasional rude interaction, it was constant. I will never go back here, and recommend you spending your money elsewhere. The rooms are also in rougher shape, although I would consider the room the least important part. Over our 7 night stay, we had to ask the lobby 9 times to change our key as it would stop working. The safe is NOT included. The AC can only run if you are in the room with the key card as well. There is a nightly market, and the massage, hair salon, and water sports will ask you multiple times daily to book with them - a bit over the top/pushy. Again, if it is on sale (not cheaper for us) and you don’t mind the above and just care about the beach/pool, sure - this will do. If you’re paying full price like we did, or just want a better experience that is relaxing and fair, do NOT come here with new management changes. Also, wouldn’t be a too accessible resort if you have motor challenges (rocky stones, not safe ramps, stairs only down to the beach, etc).

We travelled to Select @ Casa Marina in February 2023 through SunWing. This vacation was quite possibly the worst we have ever been on. The resort is nowhere near as advertised. The “Select” or “adults-only” side is basically a more expensive version of the non-select side. The beach was closed for three and a half days out of our seven-day vacation due to safety concerns. The waves were quite large the first two days of the closure, so it was understandable. When the waves die down, we tried to ask the front desk when the beach was going to be opened, we were told by the staff that the manager was on lunch and would speak to us in 15 minutes. 15 minutes turned into hours, and we never did end up speaking to the manager. Hotel management delayed reopen the beach causing many guests to be upset and jump the barriers to go to the beach anyways. When they finally did open the beach, it was a disappointment. The photos used online as advertisements are of the neighbouring “public” beach that Casa Marina customers have access to. The beach on the actual resort is tiny, and not a walking beach. There is no shade on the beach from trees and a very limited selection of umbrellas and loungers. There is no “adults-only” beach as there were many children running around on both beaches. The buffet is shared with a room barrier between the two sides dining areas, with the “Select” sides seating being so limited we often had to eat on the “non-select” side. The food served at both the à la carte restaurants and buffet is inedible and were reheated leftovers from previous meals. Many guests left the resort and purchased pizza from a local restaurant five minutes away and brought it back to the resort… because the food was that bad. Snacks are not offered throughout the day as advertised online. A small buffet of snacks is available between 2 pm and 5 pm on the “Select” side. However, unless you are there very early, the selection is limited and does not last long. Drinks served at the bar are watered down and all taste the same regardless of what you order. Ordering drinks at the bars often feels like you are inconveniencing the bartenders. Beach and Poolside services is non-existent. The resort itself is advertised online on multiple different websites as a “smoke-free” property. This is a lie. The resort smelt like smoke our entire stay, and the “smoke-free” bedrooms certainly were not smoke-free due to poor ventilation throughout the buildings. When we first arrived, the hotel rooms appeared to be nice and clean. We stayed in two separate “Select Junior Suite Ocean View” rooms. The beds were king-sized and upon arrival had 3 pillows each. We had to request more pillows twice for each room before receiving any. Each time we asked the front desk staff seemed annoyed. Most of the outlets and switches in the rooms are useless and simply did not work. There are no USB ports, or coffee makers in the rooms as advertised. There is no hot water and the water pressure from the shower is so poor that the water often turns itself off after 15 seconds. The toilet in one of the rooms ran constantly and wouldn’t flush properly due to this. The cleaning staff did a poor job cleaning the rooms; opened beverages from previous guests were left in the mini fridges, the bed sheets were ripped and on one occasion red stained towels (appeared to be blood stained) were left in the bathroom as fresh towels. WIFI is not available throughout the resort. Unless you sit in the main lobby of the resort, you will not be able to connect to the internet. There is nothing to do here. Entertainment during the day is non-existent, and the evening entertainment starts around 9:45 pm, on the family side. There is no entertainment on the adults-only side. The excursion options are limited, the SunWing information books are not left at the resort and the prices are inflated compared to what they advertise online. When we question the tour representative from SunWing – Wilbur - became dismissive and rude. For the rest of the trip, Wilbur was impossible to find, regardless of his 12 pm - 3 pm shift. When it came time to leave, our flight was delayed four hours, and while that was not the resort's fault, they were incredibly unhelpful when asked for information or help regarding the situation. Again, Wilbur was nowhere to be seen. This is likely due to the fact people were originally notified of the delay at 10:55 am, knowing he would have angry customers to deal with, he never showed up. We sat by the theatre, where he was supposed to be, and in the front lobby the entire day and never once saw him. Communication with the busing company scheduled to pick us up through SunWing was just as difficult. Although the bus was rescheduled to pick people up, SunWing and the busing company failed to relay this information to their customers. We had to reach out to SunWing via customer service email ourselves to receive any information on our pick-up time. This is by far the absolute worst vacation we have ever been on. If it was possible, we would give this resort zeros stars. This place is a scam and nowhere near worth the amount of money they charge travellers to come to this resort. Save your money, go elsewhere

We had a wonderful time. Went with my sister-in-law. Not far from airport, that was a plus. The staff were nice, the bedroom very clean. We took an upgrade on the reef and a renovated room. We always had hot water in the shower. We had plenty of bottled water in our fridge. The balcony was super. We were close to everything. Our cleaning lady was super. We always found something to eat. The pool, beach and Jacuzzis were super except for the beach was closed for 4 days because of high waves. Since we were in Sosua we were able to go out and eat. Jolly Rogers, Margo and bailey's. All very good. The drinks at the resort were so-so. The only negative that I have is so many locals on weekends, very loud but we went out those days. But we would not go back. We were there for 2 weeks and it was a little bit too long. We would recommend

We are not rich or fussy people, but we like to travel every year and need to save from one year to the next to do so. And no, we do not stay at 5 star resorts! We are a family of 7 with a 9 and 15 year old. We stayed at this resort from Saturday April 15th to Saturday April 22nd. This was our 4th time at this resort! It was our go to resort when we didn’t want to try somewhere new! This was going to be my husband’s and my retiring place for the cold Canadian winters! Not anymore! Before we left on our vacation I emailed them to request the 3 rooms that we had twice before, ground floor with patio with all our rooms together. They told me we couldn’t get those rooms as they are now deluxe rooms. We needed to pay $15US a night per person to get those rooms. So they wanted $750US more on top of the already high prices this year! They then promised 3 rooms together, ground floor in building 24 at no additional cost. That didn’t happen and we were all on different floors and one room was even in different building at first. She ended up switching rooms twice. First because her AC didn’t work and then to get her in our building to be close to us because she was by herself. They couldn’t move her the first day as all the rooms were filled up with locals! Staff: At check in were friendly but the staff at the main buffet were not. With the exception of a couple you were lucky if they said hello let alone get you a drink. We mostly got our own coffee and drinks. The maids and ground crew were always there with a hello and smile! Food: We were served pretty much the same food every day! What was served for supper the night before was served for dinner the next day maybe with a sauce on it. The fried chicken was very good when they served it and so was the bacon the one day they served it. The desserts especially the cakes were either dry or soggy. The soggy ones were sitting in a pool of water on the plate. A lot of the food was cold unless you got it fresh off the grill. Nothing like cold French toast and pancakes for breakfast! The buffet by the pool was only open when the locals were there. So we only had the one buffet for everyone to use most of the time. WIFI: Costs $18US for 7 days per device. It does not work all the time in your room, only on balcony or patio. Also make sure they charge you correctly, we needed 5 codes got charged for 7. Had to go back to desk for them to correct it! The Locals: They allow too many in and in my opinion cater more to them! They were very rude, loud and messy! They would butt in front of you when getting food or drinks. They left plastic cups and other garbage all over the place, including the pool! And the worse was them running up and down the halls all hours or the night knocking on doors and yelling at each other! They were in the pool late at night playing loud music! We didn’t get much sleep when they were there! I have never been more tired or happy to go home from a vacation than I was this year! So no, there is nothing deluxe about this resort anymore! The only thing it has going for it now is the location for shopping. At this moment we will never go back or recommend it to anyone! I never thought I would say this about Casa Marina but save your money and go somewhere else, you will get better service!

I was not sure about coming to this hotel especially after reading some of the recent bad reviews about food and accommodations . Food : I had not issues with a food at all in fact everything was fresh and well prepared I have tried buffet and al la cart at some point I stopped going for a la cart but rather hit the beach right away because I did not want to wait in line in the morning to book it as well as the quality of food in buffet was adequately good . Yes they did not have a wide range of selection which you may encountered in higher stars hotel however what was offered and the variation was good and you will not go hungry even if you vegetarian so absolutely no issues with a food for me Accommodation : I had some issues with my first room .which I changed eventually and second room was better but the main issue was a hot water. This has been resolved somewhat but is seems like the bath equipment in particular the facet control is the problem is outdated and they need to do some kind of upgrade i guess ,so yes it is not perfect but it is manageable and not something that can ruin your vacation. I was able to take a hot shower eventually when I figured out how to work with this facet to make it give me hot water . Reception:(this is the only area where I had some issues ,and I guess they need more training about customer service) This is my second time in Dominican but I can compare to Senator which I visited a few month before and customer service and receptionist were top notch ! I had some what strange encounter with a receptionist on my first day . When I have asked for a safe key I was told it cost money and it cost 28USD for 8 days . When I paid for they key receptionist told me she has no change from 30 USD so I just left her the change . The next day I found out that they key cost 22 dollars or some people even paid 20 . Now this is not about 5 or 10 $ but it kind of left me a bad feeling that I have been scammed and well an action of one person can impact all of the hotel employees ,which is not fair as I found all of the remaining hotel employees to be very good in all terms ,the barmen's the cleaning lady the waiter at buffet and al la carte . So I decided to do this Hotel a favor and to let the Reception Manager let know about this situation some time later. That said this was the only unpleasant event from the whole vacation. I found otherwise employees in this hotel extremely friendly and hard working (with the exception of few one from the receptions ,who upon checkout cut of my bracelet right away while I was waiting for a bus hence restricting my abilities to enjoy facilities for the remaining hour or so ,however I did not mind so not a big issue . At the same time other tourists who were waiting with me were not remove the bracelets so I can only guests it was somewhat personal . That however did not impact my opinion about the hotel overall as a nice spot to spend a week . Ocean & Beach : Well when I came the ocean was a bit rough and considering that it is also step when getting in I missed rough two days of ocean bathing and was starting to think my vacation is going to be ruined because of inability to enjoy the ocean . That said other people get in and enjoyed it regardless of the red flag ,so I suppose for a good swimmers even the rough ocean is not an problem. To my great satisfaction for the next few days and the remaining of my vacation ocean became more calm and it was just amazing . This is were true potential of this Beach resorts Hotel becomes obvious. I have tried both the inner so called "private Hotel Beach" and the bigger Alicia beach . I have enjoyed both tremendously but especially Alicia beach . You can get a free lounge and blue umbrella curtesy of hotel . It was a holiday seasons so the beach was full with American and Canadian Dominicans and local Dominicans coming to visit with big families it was a very good experiences to observer the Dominican beach life in secure setting of Alicia beach . It felt secured at all times I left my bag with a cellphone and my towel a few times and there were no issues .There were security and police present so it felt very safe. Lots of Dominican in Hotel: I saw some bad review about people being unhappy about too many Dominicans visiting this hotel . I can tell those people who complain about having too many Dominicans on weekends "shame on you" I have no other response . These people are the same clients as yourself I did not find in their behavior anything out of ordinary in fact I enjoyed watching big families enjoying their stay . I had a few chats with some of them practicing my Spanish and if anything I found them very nice people and really I can not understand what was going in the head of those clients that complained about this . They probably should not come to Dominican republic if they do not like Dominicans . In Summary it is a good beach hotel with amazing Views of the ocean and Mountains both from the beach and small Infinite jacuzzi they have installed on eh reef . I have enjoyed myself tremendously and most probably will come again. If you not looking for 5 star Hotel but looking for a strong 3.5 I would come . I only gave it 4 stars because of the issues I had with a reception

We were there as a couple for 10 days at the end of March. We took the upgrade on arrival and we're glad we did. Room was pool view, clean and close to lobby, buffet and smaller pool. This resort does fill up with locals on weekends but that was o.k. Food was OK but not great. A la cartes weren't great either. Pools and "spas" weren't very clean. Always chairs available poolside. Hugo at "spas" bar is the most amazing person you can ever meet. The resort is conveniently located. We had a great dinner at Margo and enjoyed Sosua Beach.

Checked into Casa Marina Beach Resort on March 18 for two weeks. I have spent a lot of time at this resort over the years. I come back every year, this year was quiet around the resort, more locals on the weekends. I always book the renovated room, this year I moved to the Select side for my last two nights, just to see it. It was very nice.I keep coming back because I like being able to walk into the town of Sosua . I also enjoy seeing the staff at the resort every year. Amaury (Chihuahua ) works with the entertainment crew, he is the best, always laughing and smiling, friendly . He walks around and talks to all the guest. Make sure you ask for him if you on the resort, he is a 5 Star and will treat you great. James Gillis/ Nova Scotia
