Velero Beach Resort was the first luxury Cabarete hotel to be built and the visionary architect chose the best location on the entire beach to build. Our grounds are sheltered from the wind for the non-windsurfers, but 5 meters into the water the windsurfer or kiter will have access to the trade winds. Velero Beach Resort is the only one of the Cabarete hotels to have a small reef right out front that forms shallow tidal pools at low tide. These are perfect for the toddlers to play in protected from the waves. Our restaurant is also the only one in Cabarete that is directly on the water for perfect sunsets!

Perfect stay. These apartments are located next to the beach with stunning views. The property offers all amenities as promised and does not disappoint. Be sure to have a sunset dinner in the restaurant. Overall, a great experience for our family!

My husband and I stayed at the Valero for a month with our 5 month old, and could not have been happier. The pool was a perfect escape from the heat, the ocean was close for a quick dip, the restaurant served us great food (love those cheap drinks of the day!), the grounds were immaculately kept, and we felt safe and supported! The staff was lovely and quick to help us with anything we needed (fresh towels, new water jugs, more drinks of the day, etc.). We also felt very safe considering it's covid times - the staff wore masks 100% of the time and everything seemed clean. The location was also great - it's a 3 minute walk from the best grocery store in town and just a quick jaunt on the beach to the main drag. We loved being close to the action to feel included, but far enough a way to feel like we weren't in the thick of it. This was a perfect getaway with our infant - I'd highly recommend it to anyone!

A beautiful resort with ‘most’ of the staff very friendly and helpful, great food and drinks and we loved the daily happy hour however, at the beginning of our second week we suffered a robbery. All of our cash, travel documentation including passports, jewellery and other items which had been ‘safely’ locked in the in-room safe were taken along with the safe! Yes the entire safe was stolen, it was literally ripped out of the wardrobe! Initially both Security and Reception staff seemed disinterested stating that we would need to speak to the apartment owner. To this day neither the hotel or the apartment owner have assisted us in claiming against their insurance or recouping our losses for what was woefully inadequate security (contracted by the owners and the hotel). We noted that other resorts in Cabarete employed several armed Security Guards and had locked gates, with anyone venturing close to the perimeter robustly challenged, this was sadly not the case at Velero Beach resort. We did not like to see armed Guards but following our experience this would clearly deter any trespassers or thieves! Velero Beach resort had a beach access gate which was unlocked and open during daylight hours and on a daily basis we noted people who clearly were not guests eating at the poolside restaurant and using the pool! The apartment owner was helpful and over the next few days took us to Police Stations and translated for us and arranged for a taxi to take us on the 9 hour round trip to the British Embassy in Santa Domingo to collect Emergency Travel Passports. Despite the thief (not a local but a caucasian male appearing to be in his early 20’s) being caught on camera fleeing the scene with the safe (sadly only visible from behind and we have not been provided with any footage of him entering or leaving the apartment, despite several requests), he has not been caught although security was markedly stepped up the day after the robbery with increased patrols, additional lighting and cameras installed and foliage around the apartment cleared, sadly all too late for us! Disappointingly, despite there being an owners meeting the morning after the robbery, not one of the seriously wealthy owners offered to financially assist us in any way, despite us being left without cash or credit cards with many actually saying to a fellow guest that it “wasn’t their problem”! Very disappointing and thank god for the help of our family. Our awful second week was finally capped when we arrived at the airport to fly home. The Emergency Travel Passport would not link with the airport system and it took almost 3 hours to resolve the issue. Thankfully the amazing West Jet Captain delayed the plane for us and the very helpful check in Supervisor managed at the last minute to successfully check us in! A very stressful, upsetting and traumatic second week which has destroyed any chances of us ever returning to Velero Beach or the Dominican Republic.

Response from Ebony Rodríguez, General Manager at Velero Beach Resort
Responded Jun 24, 2022
Dear Richard, First of all, we're very sorry that your sunny vacation in the Dominican Republic had to end this way. No one deserves to go through this disappointing and unfortunate experience you had to deal with. Secondly, let us assure you that it was the first time we had to face a similar incident at our hotel. Because the safety and security of our guests is always our top priority. As you might have figured out, our establishment is a condo hotel meaning that you can book through the central hotel office or from a particular owner directly which was your case. When guests rent from the room owners directly, the central reception doesn't have 100% control over the room access since we don't manage the cleaning, keys or check-in/check-outs. However, our team has done everything possible to investigate your claim. We provided all requested camera recordings and other information. We have also reinforced security protocols on the grounds to make sure we protect our guests to the maximum. But as explained above, the hotel can't be held responsible for security of the rooms the administration doesn't have access to. We do control general access to the hotel and stay alert to any person who enters the establishment. On another note, our restaurant is open to the public so anyone is welcome to enjoy our oceanfront setting and excellent food. Whereas the swimming pool access is reserved exclusively for hotel guests and condo owners. And it's strictly controlled by the administration. We apologize again for the frustrating experience you lived and we hope you will get an official answer from the police on your case.

The room had a fantastic view over the ocean and pool. The decoration was a bit dated and it needs a revamping. The bed was a bit hard and too short in length. The balcony was specious and pleasant. The infinity pool was incredible with warm water. It is big enough for a good swim. The restaurant has a beautiful setting, perfect for a cocktail at sunset.

Dear Sophie, Thanks for preferring us for your stay in Cabarete. We appreciate the time you took to share your experience and feedback. We value the opinion of every guest. That's why we're happy to inform that all bed mattresses are being changed in our rooms this year. So we can offer even more comfort and better sleep experience to our guests. Besides, our swimming pool was renovated just a month ago and it is now even more gorgeous and safer than before. We hope you will visit us soon and will test all these improvements personally. Thanks

Property seems very clean and well maintained. Very close to nice beaches and restaurants however the hotel beach is not good at all. I have not yet had a chance to enjoy the pool but writing this review mainly because sleep is very important to me and I’ve been awake since 3am due to the bed being extremely hard and the pillows being flattened. Just want to make any travelers alert that these beds are like sleeping on rocks.

Dear guest, Thanks for having chosen our hotel for your stay in Cabarete. We also greatly appreciate the time you have taken to provide us with this valuable feedback. We are very sorry to hear that you didn’t have a great sleep experience at our hotel. We understand how important it is for travellers to enjoy a good rest at night. Thus we've taken necessary measures and we're currently in process of changing all bed mattresses in our hotel rooms. We hope this improvement will have a positive effect on every future guest's experience at Velero Beach Resort. Because our mission is to provide excellent services and make our customers happy. As for the beach, it's possible that winter swell might have changed its look and comfort. After all, the nature and ocean are so amazing and unpredictable so we don't seek to have control over it. Right now in summer our beach with flat waters is just perfect for sun bathing and open water swimming. We hope that you will visit us in the future and we won't let down your expectations that time. Kind regards,

I used to live in Cabarete and dreamed of staying there. Now I do when I visit, it is amazing. I always get a room with a kitchen. I love everything about this hotel even the ocean smell it leaves on my clothes. The rooms are very clean. The staff is very serious about covid as well. I feel like Cabarete has become a hidden gem over the last 10 years. But that being said I have been staying here since 2015 and will keep coming back.

Just stayed 4 days, 3 nights here, could not have been a better experience. The location itself is perfect on the point and allows for walking to almost anything you could want. The views, speak for themselves. They key here, the staff. They were what we wish we found at all of our stays throughout each year, and we stay about 100+ nights minimum annually. They even had the local doctor come to the hotel to perform our needed covid-19 test to return to the states. The restaurant was perfect and we used it much more than planned. We will stay here as we finalize our new home purchase in the area, and we will recommend this hotel always.

We payd around 250 Dollar for the hotel for 1 night! with breakfast included! for the american breakfast they served us a half of a toast, after question them if we could have the other half of it too, the answer was that we can have it but have to pay extra...realy dissapointed for such a high cost...the beach is not really nice wasnt worth to drive 3 hours up here.
