We were refugees from Hurricane Fiona and the staff made us feel most welcome. Our stay was longer than expected but mostly pleasant. We had reserved the large suite downstairs but had to request a move because (as others have said) there was a musty odor. Also the fan was making some noise.

The room we were moved to was acceptable. The bed was somewhat hard but otherwise ok. The sink had a large drain hole that was uncovered. I like to use the sink with water in it, but that was impossible. The two soap dispensers (there was no shampoo or conditioner) were difficult to operate and dispensed a very small amount with each pump.

As a person with disabilities, I have to be careful where there is a wet surface on the floor. The restaurant is in an outside building and one has to cross over walkways with fairly slippery stones including having to go up an incline at one point. There were puddles all over the place and no apparent effort to clear the water. At a minimum, there should be some kind of non-skid materials placed on the stones and concrete.

A couple of the receptionists were very courteous and knowledgeable. But, as we checked out, the very young lady who tried to help us was clueless about the bill. The bill is in German and the size of many spreadsheets. It appeared that she was requesting a lot more for the stay than should have been. I speak fluent Spanish, but she just didn't understand or could explain the bill. We finally worked through it and resolved an issue than should not have been a problem. I was correct that the total was far less than we were first led to believe.

The Assistant Manager, Lena (sp?) was most gracious throughout our stay and constantly asked if there was anything we needed. She is quite an asset.

I was in Cabarete this winter visiting with family, I was recommend to have dinner at the Hotel Villa Taina. My expectations were high after reading glowing reviews, I must say Chef Bongo did not disappoint! Honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had! I tried famous African peanut soup and it was sooo delicious, the lobster bisque had actual lobster prices in it! The menu selection was large but not overwhelming, everything sounded so good it was hard to chose. My only regret is going at the end of my trip I honestly would have eaten there every night!

Cabarete is one of our favorite places to visit while on Island. Decided to stay the night at Hotel Villa Taina. Room was clean and quiet. Very comfortable bed. Beach is within a few steps from your room. There’s a restaurant on site as well with very good prices. Parking is very limited but if you speak the the security guard he’ll hold a spot for you. Overall it was a quick stay, but very good. Highly recommended if you plan on hitting the beach 1-2 days. The pool is extremely cold. Their daily rate was a bit high which I wasn’t expecting due to the fact that Cabarete is veryyyy affordable. But worth the stay.

The hotel is located directly at the beach and close to restaurants and nightlife. Because it is not too big the atmosphere is very familiy-like and after a few days you know a lot of guests/staff by name. The restaurant has delicious and fresh food and offers specials throughout the week. In addition, the rooms are big and modern and the bed is very comfortable. The staff is always friendly and helpful. In the afternoon there is usually quite some action going on, Kitesurfing, Volleyball, Windsurfing and so on which is perfect to meet people.

The hotel is in the centre of town so out back are the beautiful ocean views and amenities and out front you meet the local culture. The complimentary breakfast buffet is great with a variety of foods, other meals were some of the best I've ever tasted! The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff were kind, pleasant and patient with this non-spanish speaking traveler. Overall, an excellent experience!

The place is lovely!
Just the perfect spot between relax and lively. The room are super clean, comfortable bedding, very nice staff.
Electricity and hot water were always running very well.
The best location in the bay, very quiet in the morning and mostly at night too. The bar and restaurant on site are good and don’t make too much noise.
During the day, as the winds come around 1 o’clock, it is enough busy to enjoy company all around for the kite.
The Kite school on site makes a nice atmosphere with the regulars and newbies.

This was a charming hotel. The room was bright and cheery with a small balcony. It sits right on the beach and towels and beach chairs are included with your room. Easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. There was a beachfront bar with daily drink specials and hammocks to chill out in. The highlight of this hotel might just be the restaurant (also beach front) that served up delicious food at great prices. Definitely worth a stay if you are in the Cabarete area.

I previously stayed at Villa Taina and was happy enough, but this trip took it up a notch with their new Chef, Chef Bongo!! I was blown away by the food! I looked him up and saw he is a celebrity Chef from Canada and had a great reputation. He is famous for his African Peanut Soup apparently, and WOW! You must try it! Everything was incredible. One of my favourite dishes was the Scallops and Prawns with Roasted Apples and Parmesan Risotto. I will include a pic. Presentation was 👌🏽. I met the Chef and he was super friendly as well. I would go back here just for the food. Beautiful view and delicious food = the best vaca!!

This is a friendly, clean and charming property, with an exceptionally jovial and serviceable employee named Wendy. Villa Taina is centrally located in Cabarete Bay which is essentially a surf strip of beach front hotels/condo's, restaurants and surf schools. VT offers free bicycles rentals and a couple of workout machines, if you're looking for dry sports. Also be sure to inquire about local excursions to 27 waterfalls of Rio Damajagua; as well as a private driver to take you to some local points of interest such as Puerto Plata cable car (funicular), Casa de Oro chocolate factory, and San Felipe Fort. We used Jojim Tours, sent by the hotel to pick us up at the airport. It is an outstanding small family operation. Bring a sarong or wrap as the evenings can get cool.

Best all you can eat barbecue on Friday night starting at 7pm. The menu had chicken, pork. Sausage, baked potato, salad garlic bread, potato salad, coleslaw, and desert for 760 peso.

The meat is cooked over coals on a open grill, great flavours

I would highly recommend not eating dinner, wait for the feast, be there early to eat at the first call.

The key lime pie is amazing, but not included, we got this on another visit

Hi, is smoking permitted on your personal balcony? Thanks!
Answer from Villataina

Dear Susan, we have a non smoking policy in all rooms with a penalty payment, but if you want to smoke on the balcony while closing the room door we have no objection. You can request an ashtray with housekeeping. Sunny regards from Villa Taina

Hi, Is this an all inclusive hotel or not? is not clear.
Answer from Donna R
Washington DC, District of Columbia54 contributions22 helpful votes
I did not have an all inclusive plan. I do not know if that is an option, but I would not recommend it. There are many good restaurants on the beach very close to the hotel. I enjoyed breakfast a couple of mornings and dinner one night at the hotel, but also recommend nearby restaurants.

Rooms are very safe, but there are safes in the rooms. You have a tab that you pay at the end of your stay at the restaurant. Many restaurants take credit cards, always good to have cash just in case. They take great measures to make sure you're safe and comfortable and the area is extremely safe.

Hola! It costs about $35 and you can actually grab a taxi at the airport fairly easily. The authorized taxis always have an ID card and a topper on their van. Just verify the price before you get in. Otherwise you can email the hotel and they will arrange a taxi for you. I can't post the email address here, but it is info @ hotel name and the website is easy to find by searching the name.
