If you are looking for an adventure in the deep woods Rancho Platón is the option. It is an ecological hotel located in a mountain in the town of Paraiso, Barahona. To get there you need to have a 4 x 4 vehicle or you need to be pick up by the hotel in the town. There is a very...

My sister's family and mine stayed in the tree house suites for three nights. The kids (10, 11, and 12 years old) would probably have been happy playing on the rope swings in the pool, playing ping pong, and hanging out on the porches the entire time-- but the all-included adventures made for a vacation of a lifetime. We rode...

It all starts on the way there; the travel through unimproved roads and the crossing of the rivers is just a refreshing experience. Then you get there and the staff engages at their best. The cuisine is excellent and varied without cutting corners....the quality is evident. The accommodations are nicely appointed with plenty of living space (tree house) and privacy....

This was my second visit to Rancho Platon, and the first with kids--and I wanted to bring them ever since the first visit. The style is rustic, but everything has a first-class finish--really the epitome of a top-level eco-lodge. This time, we went for a treehouse room, suspended from a stand of the largest palm trees I have ever encountered,...

About three hours from Santo Domingo, and the last thirty minutes are on a road that only experienced drivers with 4WD should attempt, this well designed, hydro-powered resort sits on a latge mountain river and is littered with fantastic waterfalls and fountains in several mountain fed pools. There us a water slide, some elderly horses for trail riding, a very...

I've just come back from three insanely relaxing and peaceful days in Rancho Planton, a exquisite place in the middle of a beautiful nature. Every room is in a different cabana, surrounded by bamboos, and everywhere you can hear or/and see the relaxing noise of the river or the cascades. It's perfect for mediation, yoga, relaxing while reading a book....

“Tree house suites are great. #1 is more spacious than #2. Cascade cabins have their own waterfall pool.”

“Treehouse rooms are extraordinary; the bamboo room may be a little close to the hydropower station (they make their own); the waterfall rooms are best if you are renting them both together; and the other rooms--I forget the name--also have bunk beds to accommodate up to 8 people in the room, for a large family.”
