We had a great 3 days in Bardia, at Rhino Lodge. We were greeted by the owner and staff on arrival and throughout our stay we were made to feel very welcome. The accommodation is basic but comfortable. We went out on jeep safaris into the park every day to look for tiger, which we were lucky enough to see! We had a great guide - Chitaram, who was enthusiastic, very informative and went out of his way to make sure that we were getting the best experience. A lot of time was spent sitting at beautiful spots along the river at known tiger crossing places, in the hopes that tigers would cross. If you're a sketcher, take your art materials!! Food at the lodge was good - all inclusive so set menu daily. We were sent with packed lunches into the park, as park fees only cover one entry a day. It does make for a long day but is worth it. There is free wifi at the lodge We were very happy that we had chosen Rhino Lodge and would recommend it to other travellers going to Bardia.

Just finished a 2 day, 3 night stay at Rhino Lodge Bardia. When we first arrived we were greeted by the owner and his staff who made us feel at home. After settling in, our guide took for a walk through the local Tharu village and answered all our questions. He was able to convince a local Tharu family to let us look inside their traditional home. We did 2 days of Jeep safaris in the park (you can also walk one day of your prefer). Saw lots of deer, monkeys and birds. We visited lots of locations in search of tigers but no luck. The second day in the park we were able to locate a wild elephant early in the day. We got close enough for a great view but the guide and driver always had our safety in mind. We spent most of the day camped out in 3 different locations by the river watching for tigers at known crossing locations. At the last place our guide even climbed up to the top of a 40 foot tree and stayed there for an hour in hopes of locating a tiger and positioning us in a good location for pictures. But once again no luck. However, we took a different route out of the park in a last ditch effort to see a tiger. We were sitting and watching a large herd of spotted deer get ready to cross the road when the guide started yelling tiger. About 1/4 mile ahead was a large tiger crossing the field between the tree lines. We took off down the as fast as possible in our Jeep and was able to get good view of the tiger before they disappeared. All meals we had were excellent. We opted for Nepali food each evening and we were not disappointed. A great experience and a great place to stay. Make sure to ask the owner to give you the “tiger man” as your guide. You will not be disappointed.
