We stayed at Gracious Bagan hotel for 3 nights and we would have gladly stay longer. The staff was superb and went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The hotel is a bit off the town but there’s a free shuttle available any time, to and from anywhere, just a call away. The breakfast was great, especially the Myanmar traditional dishes. The dinner menu has a broad variety and everything we tried was very taste. Summarizing, we have never been this spoiled and taken care of and staying in hotels will never be the same.

I wanted to like this hotel because on the outside it’s beautiful, and with a beautiful view of the mountains. However, I ended up only staying one night and checking out early. When I arrived I was told that I had been upgraded to one of the bungalows. As I started to unpack I realized that it appeared as though the room hadn’t been cleaned in quite sometime. There were even mouse droppings on the phone that were pretty hard not to see. They did let me change rooms but unfortunately that wasn’t much better. The pictures online of the rooms make them look much better than they look in person. Mosquitoes were coming in through cracks in my door and I repeatedly asked for a mosquito net or coils, but they had none. I have stayed in many hotels in Southeast Asia during rainy season, and have never had this much of a problem. I don’t believe that the hotel sprays outside because I got several bites just walking from my room to breakfast, even with bug spray. I had to wear bug spray to sleep because there were so many mosquitoes inside my room, and I feared getting sick. I moved to another hotel that was fairly close, and never saw one mosquito. The hotel needs to spray outside and also inside regularly, and if not, at least provide nets and coils. Even a hostel is better prepared than this. Breakfast is not great and there are power outages. The staff is very kind but ill trained. I still haven’t gotten a refund and I’m very unhappy about that. My recommendation is to stay somewhere else.

Dear Jlynn, Greeting from Gracious Bagan Hotel! At the outset I would like to thank you for your valuable comments and have reviewed it further. We deeply apologized that we could not meet your expectation. Yes, I have taken a note of it for mosquitoes related challenges and I acknowledge that it is a major issue due to the beautiful tropical garden around the hotel. However hotel is taking all possibilities to deal with it by fogging and spraying pesticides at the sources like stagnant water and uncovered areas. As per the hotel policy due to smog and smoke in the room after being mosquito coil used inside we found the guests were not comfortable and hence we have decided not to use it and the management is charting out a method soon along with the local authority to deal with it. I have taken a serious note of the housekeeping issues as well and briefed the housekeeping department to always pay extra attention for detail. Soon after the issue was been raised to us and the management have decided to refund your booking fees but your booking has come from the Online channel and as per the terms and condition with our online agents we have to refund through them. So I request you to write to Expedia along with the copy of this reply to you and can get full refund of your booking from our hotel. We once again regret for the inconvenience to you while staying at out hotel and surely will be touch with you by email and update the action we have taken and will welcome you for your future stay. Yours Sincerely Williams

We stayed 2 nights at an spacious bungalow with bad! It was definitily the best stay in whole Myanmar! When we arrived the reception take good care of us, even give us Thanaka on our faces. Staff was really kind and professional. Everything was clean and quiet. The food is very good, many options and good prices. The special party for Amoudhi's (owner) daughter with karaoke was fun, so we could enjoy the local lifestyle. Everybody is so nice. It feels like family. Breakfast buffet is great, also a lot of choices with fried eggs and fresh fruit. Sunset and sunrise roof are a big bonus. We could even see the balloons taking of in front of the hotel. Upstairs is also a free gym. O, and of course the big pool, that was amazing! Nice water temperature and colorfull bee-eaters (birds) visiting the pool, very nice detail! I also went for a massage at the SPA, best i had in south east Asia. Special thanks to our new friend William. Hope to see you again (in Holland).

Gracious luxury and boutique is mainly aimed for the Asian/chinese market and would probably not live up to the typical western expectations for luxury and boutique hotels. Although it’s just 4 years old, it’s quite run down by the bus loads of Chinese tourist arriving every second day. Unfortunately they impact the stay significantly by shouting in the hallways and slamming doors at 5.20 when the 60 of them get ready for the sunrise. They show a different culture than we are used to, by burping, farting and eating like pigs in the cafeteria and this came as a surprise to us as we have not seen anything or anyone behave like that before, and they were everywhere. The hotel facilities are ok, good pool although cold for us as the weather wasn’t great, large rooms, great beds, run down bathrooms that weren’t properly cleaned, restaurant beakfast was more Asian and local than continental - this isn’t a minus as it tasted good, but it was a bit cold as the kids were off all the time. There is little class and elegance in this luxury and boutique hotel, and I would be surprised if this has more than 3 stars - most likely we had too high expectations after having been to great places before this. We spent 3 days, the distance wasn’t a problem as kids wanted to have evenings at hotel, but if you’re going out it’s probably better to stay in new hagan.
