Our family of four, two adults and two children under five, booked a three night stay during the COVID pandemic. We got a great deal, but the stay was nothing but luxurious. The rooms were rich with beautiful teak wood, the staff was friendly and helpful, the complimentary breakfast was delicious, and the location of the hotel was convenient for seeing all of Old Bagan. Min Min, the hotel’s concierge, was extremely helpful and went over the top with customer service. He personally drove us around Old Bagan to see the spectacularly ancient pagodas. He was always friendly and focused on our family enjoying our experience. All the staff at Hotel at Tharabar Gate were excellent. If you’re looking for a family friendly experience at a beautiful hotel, this is the place to book your stay.…
Excellent location in Old Bagan with many temples at walking distance. This gives you the option of taking a break from visiting temples at any time and relaxing at the pool. The hotel is set in a large and very beautiful green garden. The rooms are very spacious but a bit tired and in need of updating. Would recommend this place mainly because of its location and the very friendly and helpful staff!
Well located hotel, close to restaurants and shops. Rooms comfortable and spacious. There was a lot of road noise in our room. There were quite a lot of guests in the hotel and perhaps that was why there was not as pleasant and friendly atmosphere as elsewhere in Burma.
We stayed for two nights, great location for most of the temples, cheap restaurants around if you do not wish to dine in the hotel. Breakfast excellent, huge variety of food - continental as well as local. The hotel staff is very helpful, welcoming and friendly, everything we needed was arranged quickly. The hotel rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable, wifi worked perfectly, pool is a super relaxation in a hot dusty day. I would recommend for couples as well as families.
The grounds for this hotel are beautiful; it's lush and green the pool and dining area are in a lovely setting; this however is where the positives end. The service was extremely poor. We found that service in Myanmar is generally a little slower than other places, however this was dreadful. On the first night of our stay, we dined at the hotel. Our main course took well over an hour to arrive and it was barely luke warm when it did. (It also wasn't exactly delicious and therefore worth the wait) We'd ordered some more cocktails about 10minutes before our mains turned up but then only one cocktail arrived (20mibutes later) and we had to chase the second one down. Also on our first night, my partner had spoken to reception to arrange a late check out on our final day and had agreed a time and price. That being agreed then set up what how we planned out our activities for subsequent days... The following evening reception told us they were fully booked and no way could they accommodate our request. Many words later they decided actually they could, but still charged us. Considering how cold it is in Bagan at this time of year, we didnt feel the bedding provided was adequately warm, the beds and pillows were also below what I would expect. All the dining areas are open too, yet there are no heaters so people were sitting having breakfast in down jackets (it does heat up, but not until mid morning). Breakfast btw isn't that great either. There is an egg station where we ordered two omelettes the first morning. Only one initially got made and it was far too runny in the middle to eat, after some more chasing down, the second one was made and to a better standard…
