Rates from USD 1,115 per person per night. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge has been called the game lodge at the top of the world. Between the natural riches of the Crater spread out at its feet and the incredible architecture, it’s easy to believe that you have entered a realm of pure fantasy. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Endangered black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephant wander the forests, male lion stalk the grasslands and flamingo crowd the soda lakes. Nowhere else on earth can you wake up among all the trappings of an elegant baroque châteaux that transports you into one of the most famous African landscapes. An eclectic blend of teak panelling, Victorian furnishings and whimsical African touches creates a sumptuous atmosphere that is as elegant and unique as the Crater itself. In this place of dramatic contrasts, anything is possible and the natural luxury of the beautiful setting ensures the dramatic interior of your suite blends perfectly with its stilted thatch architecture. Divided into three camps, 30 suites with banana leaf ceilings and grass roofs provide an intimate and exclusive experience. Each camp has its own sitting and dining areas, with private butlers who provide warm, personal service. With ever-changing views as mists swirl over the huge wildlife cauldron below, the location is truly breathtaking. Guests can be forgiven for losing track of which era, or even continent, they are experiencing at this lodge. Everything is chosen to delight the imagination and enhance the spectacular views of the magnificent surroundings.

Stayed here for one night and given the price tag the expectations were definitely high. Unfortunately in our case we left with mixed feelings about the experience. Regarding the view other reviews have said enough. It’s amazing, on the rim and doesn’t get any better than this. The rooms are nice and spacious and we particularly enjoyed the bathroom area. Staff is very nice and friendly. The part that left me disappointed was definitely the food. I would have expected a high level, but instead it was below average. Had much better meals in some of the tented camps we visited in the Serengeti. Breakfast was as well quite underwhelming. All in all i am happy i did this once but would probably not come back.

We stayed here for one night, and loved every second of it! We loved the spectacular views of the Crater from most locations of this beautiful lodge including from our room! Services were also impeccable. Highly recommended to spluge here!

Came with a group and enjoyed our stay. Of the 4 luxury safari camps we stayed at, this was our 4th, and the one we had looked forward the most given the reviews and photos. It was great, and had unique rooms, but perhaps we came with such high expectations, it didn't tick that extra-special box. Don't get me wrong, it was just as nice and special as our other visited camps, but it may have also been because after 8 days of other luxury safaris, we were getting a bit jaded and spoiled. The crater was amazing to see, albeit a bit crowded with so many day-safari vehicles. The highlight were the unique large rooms, with fireplaces lit each evening, and with adjustable heated bed spreads.

I stayed at this lodge as a personal selection on an itinerary proposed by my travel agent. She warned me of the high cost but I wanted to stay here having seen the reviews and the web site. I would probably have been much better off where she originally placed me. The room is unusual yes, but don't take American electrical equipment. My adapter didn't work and although my butler said he would get one he never did. The room retained a musty smell throughout my stay. I know it had been raining a lot but at these prices run a dehumidifier or figure out another way to get rid of the smell. The most disappointing aspect was the restaurant. I had already stayed at three other lodges where the dining and choices were amazing. The choices here were extremely limited. Indeed, lunch has NO CHOICES at all. It's a set menu. The times are also totally inflexible. I returned from a game drive one day at 12:30 and told the camp manager I was just going to drop my gear and eat, that I was starving and he said "oh, we don't serve lunch until 1:30" Really? That's not service. All in all, disappointing especially for what I paid. I will be coming back but not here. And it makes me hesitant to try any other AndBeyond property.

We absolutely loved our time at this lodge. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous. Our room included a fireplace (lit by staff every night), an outside balcony with view of the Crater, his/hers sinks, tub, shower, and wardrobe. Snacks, tea, coffee all in room. Bed with heating pad was deeply appreciated. Our butler (one assigned to every room) was extremely friendly and accommodating. The main lodge and dining area are also beautifully appointed. Very luxurious. Definite European feel with African accents. The gift shop was filled with gorgeous and high quality souvenirs. The food was exceptional with both African and European fare available. Note that the lodge is not fenced in. This means that wildlife can roam on the grounds. The property escorts you after dark to and from your room. Take this very seriously. We walked by a herd of water buffalo (with our Maasai guide) at night and felt very protected and safe with him. Another benefit associated with this property is that It is very close to the crater. This means that you can start early on game drive. If you start early, you will be inside the crater before the day trippers from Arusha. Note you can do only one game drive per day, although the length of that drive is flexible. Our guide was friendly, helpful, and knew the park very well. I will always remember my time at this property. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer.
