The service was excellent checking in, at the restaurant and bar. The staff was the most friendly in all of Tanzania and that is saying a lot since everyone I met in Tanzania was nice. Food was decent, room nice and the view was magnificent. Saw waterbucks when pulling up to the property.
The staff were so warm and welcoming. Our dining server, Zuberi, remembered our names and food preference (e.g. type of tea we liked) throughout our stay - he was great! My husband and I were traveling for our honeymoon and after our first dinner, the staff sang a couple of songs to us and we got a special dessert, which was a great experience. The views of the crater from our room were breathtaking and we loved the turndown service with hot water bottles placed in the bed. Overall, the hotel has a bit of a cabin/lodge feel, which was charming. The property is a tiny bit dated, but very comfortable overall.
This hotel is absolutely breathtaking! The rooms sit on the edge of the crater looking over the plains below. From our room we could hear zebra, hyenas, and even lions. The rooms themselves are spacious and very clean. The hotel is constructed out of dark stones to create a unique visual experience that blends in perfectly with its surroundings. I recommend taking advantage of the nature walk. On ours, we came across a bull elephant on foot and some water buck. We had a Maasai warrior with us to keep us safe. It was an experience I will never forget. The food is delicious and the staff is great. They are very engaging and are always looking to have a conversation. I absolutely loved this hotel.
Older but comfortable rooms. Very small, but comfortable for 2 people at most. We had 1 triple which is essentially a 3rd twin bed they squeeze into the small space and it was a bit cramped. Some updates were needed in the bathrooms and decor, but it was clean. The lodge was very busy! Very few people (including staff) masked so something to keep in mind during covid times. There are sanitizer stations around the property. There are no elevators either so if someone has mobility issues, request a room closer to the lobby as there are multiple stairwells and long hallways to get to a majority of the rooms. The restaurant serves very delicious foods. We loved the warm cabin-type feel of the entire lodge, especially the bar area. There were wonderful views of the crater. The appetizers/sandwiches in the bar were delicious. The dinner at the lodge was delicious! The chef really went out of his way to meet with us before dinner as the majority of our group was vegetarian. Everything he made was seasoned well and flavorful. The restaurant staff were so attentive and proactive and did everything with a smile. They were truly the stars of the operation. We only stayed 1 night here during our safari tour but wish we could've stayed an extra night!…
Amazing views looking into the crater, fantastic customer service, great amenities, food/chef options and variety, and location can’t be beat in the park. Rooms tend me be a bit smaller then other lodges but you won’t be spending much time there so not a issue. Would definitively come back.
