Started in 1994, Ndarakwai is a unique success story of land and wildlife rehabilitation, the first of its kind in Tanzania. With about 70 mammal species and over 350 bird species in a combination of high long grass plains, classic Acacia savannah, Commiphora thickets, and riparian habitats, a stay at Ndarakwai is a great addition to any safari itinerary. Ndarakwai Camp, with 14 large comfortable and individually decorated tents, is set at 4200 feet in the midst of an 11,000 acre privately-owned ranch in Siha District, West Kilimanjaro. Ndarakwai offers a high degree of personalized service, attention to detail, great food, as well as a wide variety of excellent wildlife related activities, cultural experiences, and excursions. What really sets us apart from National parks is our ability to offer half and full day walks with an experienced guide, as well as night game drives. These are two things you are not able to do in the parks. If it is birding on foot, or searching for nocturnal animals by spotlight, Ndarakwai is for you! Ndarakwai strives to be the best in luxury tented camping while maintaining the principles of responsible environmental stewardship. Extensive use of solar power (for electricity and hot water), the use of clay ovens for cooking, preference for local produce, combined with 11,000 protected acres of bush and woodland give confidence the camp is being established as carbon neutral.
We spent 3 nights at Ndarakwai chasing the elusive Aardvark.
Through the expert guidance from the onsite wildlife experts , Ashley and Everest, we saw 3 different individuals over the course of the 3 nights ... and that in dry season.
The Lesser Kudu sightings and Franks daily feeding of half a ripe banana to his Galago Groupies ..... were real cream in an already magic cake.
Whilst at Ndarakwai Frank and Christina did a magic job of looking after us like kings!!
The food was superb, freshly cooked and the Salads and Fresh Veg were to kill for after 3 weeks camping off grid in the buah.
One word of warning ... Frank and the Ndarakwai team like to feed armies .... so be prepared to say no to some of this wonderful food or you will pop!!
Frank , Christina, Ashley, Everest ..... Many many thanks ... well be back.

Spent two nights here before heading out on a 10 day Kili Summit with Thompson Safaris. The Camp is amazing. You stay in large canvas tents that are equipped with a large bed, shower, toilet, and lights. its 95% bug proof, but you are in the sticks. They have a main dining are that served all three meals and they were all very good. Everything is laid back, but they still take good care of you. We took a jeep ride and a walking tour thru their 11,000 acres looking for wildlife which was awesome...so lots of animals. There are no sockets in the tents to power phones but you can change at the main dining area and they have free Wifi so it was all good. Would recommend

We stayed at Ndarakwai Ranch with our 5-month-old infant as a home base for the Kilimanjaro Trail Run 1/2 marathon at Simba Farm. We enjoyed the peaceful restaurant and sitting area and loved our spacious room with nice views of the warthogs in the field. The service was wonderful, and we liked the food, especially dessert and breakfast! With our infant, we needed a cold place to store formula, and they offered access to the refrigerator in the bar, which was so kind. The resort operates on solar and has a generator that stays on until 11 pm. We found we had access to hot water at all hours of the day, and lights even in the early morning. There are not outlets in the tent, but a charging station in the lounge area. While we did not have time for a game drive or walking safari, we managed to see lots of animals just on the drive along the dirt road to/from the lodge.

The best thing about the camp was the staff. They went above and beyond to meet our every need. My wife is 76 and I am 80 so we often needed a "little extra care" and we got it. The cook took time to teach my wife how to make a special dessert. Beds were well above average as were the showers. Everest was our local guide and he knew the area and showed us a lot of wildlife including: cheetah, giraffe, zebra, eland, elephant, many antelope and lots of birds. Grounds had warthogs and baboons in abundance. The second day of our stay was a Sunday and we awoke to the singing of old Christian hymns by the local villagers.

My wife and I stayed here for a few days before going off to climb Kilimanjaro. I can’t say enough good things about it. We stayed in a “tent” but with a king-sized bed, shower and bathroom facilities. Not your typical tent. We had electric lighting although without electric outlets in the tent. There were though outlets available in the reception and dining areas, with open Wi-Fi in the latter. We could sit in our tent and watch the baboons, monkeys, warthogs and bush bucks wander the grounds. The food in the restaurant was excellent across the board and Frank, the bartender/waiter seemingly there 24 hr a day for whatever you wanted. He also entertained us with a nightly appearance of a Bush Baby, George, sometimes accompanied by his mate Barbara coming to get some banana snacks. If you’re ever around Arusha or Kilimanjaro, be sure to check out this place. You’ll love it!

It is incomparable. Exquisite food (the best we had in the 2.5 weeks we were in Tanzania), friendly and helpful staff, and great activities possible. It was the best game drive we experienced, and all within a few miles of the ranch. The guide and driver were both super knowledgeable and tailored the drive to my interests. Each room is in a separate hut, and they were beautifully furnished. The bushbabies came after dinner each evening, baboons wandered through camp, and sitting by the outdoor fireplaces (3!) before and after dinner was lovely.

In the last 1 year I’ve been here over 5 times. Ndarakwai offers the most amazing wildlife photography opportunities!! Since it’s a private ranch, I could get on the ground and walk up to the animals, composing the shot as per my liking. Other places don’t provide this opportunities as one is not allowed to exit the vehicle.
This place is a photographer’s paradise!
Cannot recommend it enough.

Out of the normal tourist path, very relaxed and calm, staff very welcoming and warm looking to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Lovely location with a very rustic feel and a great way to get away from everything. Food was traditional and delicious

Great way to relax after long flight. Very accommodating staff. Warthogs and baboons in camp. Had a walking Safari to our sundowners. Appreciate that the owner purchased this property to provide a corridor for wildlife to migrate.

It actually took us closer to 75 minutes. But as the other respondent noted, the ranch will make all of the arrangements. And even if you're arriving late at night, be prepared for them to have a full and delicious meal waiting for you.
There are more places to choose from in the Moshi area.
