Our stay at Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve was absolutely fantastic. We stayed in the Courtyard Manor House and were looked after and made to feel very special with not having to do anything. It is a comfortable, clean house with roaring fires and all the comforts for winter luxury from underfloor heating, heated towel rails, electric blankets. The chef and team was very good and we ate beautiful breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The only thing that needs attention is the massage therapist needs training as she did not know what she was doing and that was disappointing. Last but not least ..... The game drives - 10/10! Ask to book Philip. He was our game ranger, and was beyond outstanding. Knowledgeable, informative and has a great way with people. He was reliable and responsible. We felt safe at all times with him and he is master of driving that GV. We did 2 game drives per day and even a night game drive which was very exciting. We won't forget Harry the elephant and the herd of Buffalo 'face off'. We look forward to booking Philip again. If you want a break in the bush and don't want to lift a finger, this is your place. Well done and hope to see you soon.…
We stayed in Cambdeboo Manor. The room had a separate sitting area which could be heavily curtained off if one guest is an early riser or needs to conduct business remote. The rooms also had glass french doors leading outside from the sitting area. The common area of the house was very comfortable and well appointed. House wine was included as is coffee drinks (espresso machine) and tea, cordials. The highlight was the food. Not every guest gets the same meal each night which is an unusual treat. I had the Karoo Lamb Shank for dinner one night, and although I had never been a fan of lamb, this was the best meal of our five week trip through SA, Tanzania and Kenya. Amazing chef! Ryan was a wonderful guide. Although he is fairly new to guiding, his commitment to guest satisfaction exceeded guides with much more experience. Our stay was not perfect, but that was mostly due to weather (rain 2 days) and intermittent power outages. We understand that the guide and lodge staff cannot: 1) control the weather 2) make animals magically appear 3) control the power grid, which is unreliable in SA. All the staff made every effort to cater to our needs and make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.…
Stayed 3 nights which for us was perfect duration as the reserve covers a large area so enables 6 game drives. A big call out to Ryan (our guide) as well as all the staff. They could not have been more welcoming and Ryan’s knowledge was fantastic. Accommodation was first class as was every meal. Great wine selection. Would highly recommend.
I am writing this from our pod on our last full day and can safely say this place is better than we ever imagined. The team here go above and beyond, every single need we have is met, the food is delicious and they accommodate any and all dietary needs, I am veggie and struggle with gluten, all my food is meat free and gluten free, and there is so much of it! The wine is wonderful, the mini bar is perfect, it’s just great. The main lodge is so relaxing and beautifully appointed. The pod we are in (pod 1) has the most magnificent views, hot tub, shaded area, fire pit, secured fence, comfy bed (ridiculously comfy). It is pure luxury away from anyone up on a hill. I’ve never been so relaxed! The game and drives, we have Tish as our ranger and I suspect what she doesn’t know about the animals and the reserve isn’t worth knowing, we are constantly asking questions and immediately Tish knows the answer. And the game viewing. Oh. My. Days. With the exception of the elusive leopard (there’s still time) we have seen everything, and not “from a distance” viewings we been able to get so close but remained so safe. We feel spoiled every single time we go on a drive with Tish. I just can’t begin to recommend this place enough, it is phenomenal, the people are phenomenal. It’s amazing.…
We travelled to Mount Camdeboo for our very 1st family holiday and spent 4 nights in pure tranquility in the pepper tree cottage. Cameron, Barney and their team were nothing short of exceptional, from the way we were welcomed, to them going out of their way to accommodate our one year old daughter. The game drives with Hein, our guide, were amazing (not with the toddler of course!). We spent our days relaxing by the pool and indulging in what can only be described as five star cuisine. A special mention to Shuabaida who went out of her way to make sure we were well looked after. We cannot wait to return to this perfect mix of African safari and five star relaxing facilities.
This is a complete different experience if you are used to going game lodges like I am. The 1920's interior of the rooms sweeps you off your feet and brings you to other times. Hein and Tish are amazing rangers. They are incredibly knowleadgeble and friendly. Especially for the children. The Camdeboo Park itself is incredibly beautiful. Sometimes I forgot I was supposed to look for game because I was so distracted by the beauty of the nature. It was stunning.
Stunning experience. Beautiful setting. Exceptional service. Delicious food, very vegetarian friendly. Amazing game drives morning & evening. Lovely pool. Bedroom and bathroom so comfortable. Try stay for 2 nights, 1 is not enough, one needs to spend a day there relaxing and taking it all in.
It is a bit a long way to get there with 27 km on a gravel road and with a sedan car after heavy rain it is a bit of a challenge. A fantastic surprise when we got there. The accomodation is truly amazing as well as the service, and especially during the evening dinner. We were at a reduced price and it was excellent value for money. We were offered two game drives, and whilst there was not so much to see, the views were fantastic and the information given by the ranger was very informative. We stayed for two nights and did not regret a minute of it.
Blown away. Accommodation was incredible (we stayed in a pod on top of a mountain, with only a small electric fence between us and the big 5). The food was amazing and the staff very attentive. To be alone in this beautiful wildernesses where your hosts have exceptional attention to detail is so hard to describe ….just spectacular
SERVICE We were blown away by the service - I mean nothing was too small to ask and Yolinda sorted out a room issue within 1 minute- so professional. Shubaida (excuse spelling !) was the best waitress and restaurant co-ordinator ever . Tim was a thorough, Friendly and informative guide. LODGE AND ROOMS the lodge itself is an old farm house in the Karoo that has been done up in a comfy OUT OF AFRICA look. There are two manor houses and the bigger manor house has 4 rooms and the smaller manor house has 3 rooms. We stayed in Wild Olive in the bigger house and my children were next door and I think they were best rooms. The roaring fires in Winter were amazing !There are these secured pods but as we had kids we stayed at the manor house. I would say the lodge could do with a slight upgrade - paint , carpets - that sort of thing. FOOD Best food everrrr! Good home style breakfast with all you could ask for. Lunch is a high tea and it’s tasty snacks and dinner is amazing - lamb chops or fillet… the best I have ever eaten. I felt like I was eating in someone’s home - it was delicious 😋 GAME This is where it scored low for me- we did not manage to see much and I know it is luck, but we went out 3 x and saw Rhino, zebra, eland (from very far), warthog, giraffe , gemsbok, steenbok and one loan springbok . You would drive and drive with no sightings which was unfortunate. The views are absolutely spectacular. We love Mount Camdeboo and had the best weekend !! Thanks for everything Mount Camdeboo!!…
