The experiences we had did not anyhow match the costs and expectations. Due to the poor quality of our “luxury” tented room and the holes in the tent monkeys managed to get in the room and devastated all our belongings including the expensive medicine my pregnant wife took with her. This medicine is impossible to get in Kenya and and it can not be delivered within the time needed. No lockers for items like medicine have been provided in case of such incidents. No advise or caution were given about the HOLES in the “luxury” tent that monkeys can easily squeeze through at any time for example at night when you are sleeping. We did not even open the tent or unlock it in order to avoid such situation by all means. We used the ordinary side door to get in that we had in our room. But there are just HOLES in the tent!!! That monkeys easily use. When we’re trying to collect our stuff, monkeys again get it the room that we believed was sealed... NO REACTION from the management at all. Only “sorry” from housekeeping. The manager we could work solution with (Lawi Kiplimo as indicated in hotel information )and who supposed to be in charge of service was unreachabel both for us and for Booking.com support team, though his phone number (+254722 589512) is indicated in the booking.com system as the number of the property. After 2-3 hours trying to reach him we decided to leave though we had paid the full amount for reservation and NO OPTION to resolve this incident was offered and somehow cover destroyed medicine and other damaged belongings . There are many others complaints on the amenities of the room and it’s quality for the amount of money they request (broken mirror, smoke from the fireplace in all over the room because of not functioning chimney pipe, bad working leaking and all scrapped water cranes, stains everywhere, poor working wc unit). We could neglect them and go away with it becaouse location is really good but total indifference from the main manager to the quality of the tent where wildlife can easily get in any time of the day is unacceptable for the amount of money this property request.…
Crater Lake Tented Camp is in a secluded, stunningly beautiful location. The road to get here is bumpy and dusty but very much worth the trouble. Although we only stayed here one night and didn't happen to see the colobus monkeys that are often in residence, there were warthogs and bushpigs on the property. The camp is about thirty minutes' drive from Naivasha, which makes the lake easily accessible but still gives you a peaceful place to relax at the end of the day. Friendly staff and great food. Thanks especially to Raphael for arranging some traditional ugali for dinner!
Crater lake is perfect whenever one wants to get away from the city and the trappings of city life. There are no TVs and WIFI is only available at the reception. The food was ok, the service was average. But the location makes up for any shortcomings one may experience. Getting there is however quite a distance and the road is not tarmacked the whole way, so if self-driving, I would suggest to get there before sunset. It's also a bird-watchers' paradise.
It's a very beautiful facility from the nature which includes vegetation and lovely crater lake. The luxurious tent is awesome with basic facilities. The food was really good we enjoyed every bite. The place however is ideally great for a couple very romantic and quiet. They do not have activities for kids. The pool is also very tiny. They may think of adding a refrigerator in the rooms. The shower was also very tricky getting it to right temperature but once you managed you were good to go. It's not a super luxious place but the beauty and just nature makes up for it. The place also needs to make it friendly for physically challenged people or aged because of the long stair stretch from reception to the facility. Lastly it's better to have a 4 WD because the road off Naivasha main road very rough. It was worth the trip. …
Beautiful place, amazing staff & delicious food. We enjoyed the nature walk, we got to interact with the wild up close which was such a beautiful experience, the floating restaurant was awesome. Our best experience was the sundowner, very romantic & intimate experience. V&V
You actually enjoy the natural beauty and warmth of the place. You are soo removed from modernization and immersed so deeply in the beautiful jungle. If you like bird watching then you are in earthly heaven.
When I went to Crater lake I was expecting a luxury hotel but I kind of got a shock. So first of all it is not wheelchair accessible because it has like a 100 steps to the bottom from the reception. The Wi-Fi is only strong at the reception and at the restaurant. So definitely don't go if you need Wi-Fi. however, I really enjoyed the game walk. They have this thing where you can walk up the crater and even walk around it. There are so many beautiful views. Our guide was really funny and helpful. We also got to walk in the sanctuary with the animals, which is such an amazing experience! Would definitely recommend it if you're looking for am experience with the animals and with nature.
This is a place you can consider if you have too much money and don't care about spending it on bad service. Four friends and I stayed here, in tents from the campsite, because it was raining. We had to negotiate with the manager, who refused to talk to us directly, over the phone of the man at the entry gate. The managere has a "non-residents should pay an awful lot" policy, even when it comes to sleeping in a tent. After 20minutes of calling back and forward the manager agreed to 100USD for two nights (for the five of us). However, at this point, they still had to set up the tents. When we came back in the evening, we were surprised to find that they had set up two two-person tents, and that they had just put an extra pillow on one of the mattresses for the fifth person to sleep on... The showers at the camping site did not have warm water either. The arrogance of the manager, who refused to talk to us directly at first, and subsequently made three of us sleep on the same matress, was angering to me.…
Camping is never the most comfortable accommodation but the personnel made everything perfect regardless to the actual conditions. Tends cleaned and very well fitted, acceptable food having regard to the circumstances, very nice waking around the crater between animals, professional guide always very complete. Also the hard climbing of the stairs to the reception has become a friendly exercise!!!! A visit is compulsory for the free nature lovers!!!
The walking safari by Ann was the highlight of the trip. From the mountain looking down into the crater, we could spot different kinds of animals. What a great two hour we had watching the wildlife from afar. The air was fresh and beautiful in the early evening. The lodge was a standard tented camp but we had the whole lake in front of us by ourselves. Granted, it was a small lake run off from Lake Naivasha, it was still quiet and magical. Food was excellent. Certainly will come back.
