LOVED our visit there!! Far away from the city so the stars were incredibly visible, got to run on the path and be surrounded by wildlife (waterbuck, zebra, giraffe, vervet monkeys, even a colobus monkey, etc), and the cabin was so cute! When we ordered food, we expected individual servings and they were much larger so that was a pleasant... More

This is pure magic: huge property with animals roaming free; unique accommodation; outstanding food and fantastic management. We loved this place so much that we did not want to leave. You feel in a different dimension - you go to a lovely pool or walk or play volleyball - and all is easy and perfectly arranged. Bravo Olerai House!

Stayed here for 4 nights in the Cabin with some friends whilst we were in Naivasha for a wedding. Out of everywhere we stayed in Kenya the staff here were by far the friendliest and most attentive by far, no matter the request. Sitting in front of the lodge for breakfast each morning was a real treat, not only was... More

This was the most magical place I've stayed in 2 years living in East Africa. A unique and beautiful lodge designed just like the shire. We began the day biking through Hell's Gate park near Naivasha then continued the drive out to Olerai for the weekend. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming and set up afternoon tea on our... More

We spent a few days at Olerai House in late October, during our first ever visit to Kenya. If you fancy an adventure, the drive up from Nairobi was truly and experience as the north road around lake Naivasha was like a dry riverbed. Who needs theme park rides. - this was amazing ( but not for the faint- hearted!).... More

I haven’t been anywhere else in the world where zebras come and have a look at what you’re eating at breakfast and stroll past your sunbeds in the afternoon! The grounds of Olerai House are surreal and magical: giant bougainvillea trees, enormous wild flowers, giraffes strolling, acres of lush forest for walks…. It is a very special place. At night... On our delayed arrival we had the choice between a bonfire outside or a cosy chair in front of the fireplace indoors to relax with a pre-dinner drink. We (my grown-ups and I) had a lovely italian-african inspired dinner and felt privileged being the only guests - for two days it turned out. - The rooms were large and very... More

Olerai House is the guest wing of the Rocco family Farm on the shores of Lake Naivasha, one of a string of lakes in Kenya's great Rift Valley. With a view of Mount Longonot and surrounded by lawns where zebra, giraffe, buffalo and gazelle graze, Olerai is a paradise where hippos that come out of the lake can be heard... More

One night, two rooms -giraffe and elephant, I beleive. Beautiful and thoughtful construction design and layout in an extremely beautiful natural setting. Very decently prepared food, breakfast really varied and abundant -compensating a too watered juice Some nice details, as books in the room, a swing and volleyball net in the garden... But: * bedding was shabby -cheap mattress and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Olerai House is the family home of Oria Douglas Hamilton, a native Kenyan of French-Italian origin. The house is nestled within a 400-acre wildlife sanctuary on the North shores of Lake Naivasha. It has been open to guests since 1993, when it acted as a functioning farm. In 2001, it became a wildlife sanctuary and now has over 500 animals grazing harmoniously on its grounds. Zebras, giraffes, water buffalo, gazelles and monkeys greet you at breakfast in the morning, while a chorus of birds chirps overhead. The house is a web of five independent rooms, built from local materials, with beds made of vines, and walls inlaid with glass bottles. Rooms are each personally decorated by Oria with colourful Indian tapestries and local art. Three course meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the room rate, served on hand-made pottery and glassware. They are sumptuous affairs with fresh-baked bread, and soups and salads made from vegetables picked in the organic garden on the grounds.Olerai is the perfect weekend retreat from the bustle of Nairobi, and a wonderful haven for safari journers, eager for a cooler climate in the lush greens of Naivasha. The house is child-friendly and – need we say it? – animal friendly.Activities include:• Hiking up a gentle neighbouring hill with views over the Lake, accompanied by a Samburu warrior• Taking a boat ride through a small adjacent lake, home to 500,000 flamingos and large families of hippos• Walking among the animals in the sanctuary guided by expert on-site ornithologists and zoologists• Swimming in the pool while zebras curiously watch from an arm’s length• Reading a good book on the lawn amidst blankets and pillows• Having a sun-downer by the fire, indoors or out• Mount Longonot and Lake Nakuru National Park are within a one-hour drive ... more   less
