We had very nice hot breakfast, selection of dishes between us. Staffs nice. But that is it. Many guys looking like in businesses were seen disgruntled. We had very hot room. Found someone else's knickers in there. Parking is also an issue here.

I booked for a deluxe room while leaving Nairobi and my booking was confirmed. On arrival by the last flight to Kisumu I couldn't get a taxi to the hotel and called the hotel which is about 20 minutes drive away from the airport, to come and pick me on my account. It took them just about 2 hours to organize for a dirty dilapidated cab whose doors had to literally be forced open, which never the less charged me dearly as he obviously knew it was later and I had no alternative. On arrival the receptionist declared that they were overbooked and could I take an inferior room? This I turned down and was told that they had rooms in their branch (Royal Garden). The receptionist promptly called back the dilapidated cab which at my cost (once more! ) took me to their other hotel. I could not wait to check out and run the following morning. If you are used to being treated well in hotels Royal city may not the place for you.

The Good: We stayed in "Buffalo" a very spacious corner room. The room was good, the couch in the room is a nice touch. Its quiet at night and quality of sleep is great. Room is air conditioned Dinner was good, the portions are large and well presented
The not so Good WiFi hardly works, lucky for us we had traveled with our 3G internet options. The Water temperature doe not go beyond 38degreed, I like my showers hot, not just warm The reading table is a little uncomfortable and was probably meant to be a dining table rather. There are very limited sockets in the rooms Breakfast was not adequate, there is very little to choose from

The room was good, the with a couch to give it a nice touch. Its very quiet at night for some good quality sleep. Room is air conditioned Dinner was good, the portions are large and well presented. There could be some improvements but generaly a great place.

First time staying at this hotel on holiday in Kisumu. We found it on the internet and decided to try it out. The ambience of the hotel is good and looked clean. When we arrived at midday our room was not yet ready so we waited for a few minutes to be set up. On being shown our room, it had no reading desk which was later brought, it had no bin to put trash in which we requested for and was brought later. This to me was poor service on check in and they need to improve on that. Our room had a couple of maintenance issues like a broken toilet, etc. We wanted to use their swimming pool but was restricted since they hadn't cleaned it and they said we had to wait till 2pm to use it! I found that to be ridiculous! So we had to source for a pool outside the hotel which we were not very happy about. Generally the stay was average.

I didnt like the location very much, its situated in an "industrial site" not far from a dumpsite. But i found the inside actually decent- friendly staff, clean, air con, good bed nets, great hot showers! Food not marvelous but will do if you get to the restaurant early enough.

Although I booked a 'Deluxe Room" i was VERY disappointed. The room was hot (sunny side) had no ac, nor mosquito gauze in the window. Okay, the bed was king size, but the shower and toilet where dwarf size. It all started when I arrived in Kisumu and asked a tuktuk to bring me to Royal City Hotel. The driver asked me which of the three Royal City Hotels he had go for. The hotel did not give a clue when I made my reservation, so I took the one most nearby. Lucky me, it was the right one. The entrance was via a parking garage (!) and when i got my room I tried the free internet. As they have many routers it was not clear which one i had to choose because, I had to try all with the password I got form the bellboy. Finally connected the first thing I did was searching for a better place to stay for the coming nights. As, like many hotels, the Royal City says to leave your valuables at the reception, i was glad I kept it with me during breakfast because when I came back to my room the bed was made, but the door was wide open! My advise: avoid this hotel. It is not safe and also worn out.

The group I was travelling with stayed at the Royal City Hotel for 4 days. In general, we were satisfied with the hotel overall. However, the hotel was clearly lacking in certain areas. In regards to service, it's top notch. The staff is very courteous and pleasant. We had a problem with our room and they promptly dealt with it, moving us to another room. The internet is a complete wild card. Due to the fact we had two rooms, we received two different experiences. The room on the bottom floor had quite good wifi. However, the room on the third floor was not so good (I would expect that it gets worse the higher you are). In regards to the bathroom, it was pretty standard. This means that the hot water was iffy, usually not working. The beds in the room were nice and conducive towards a good night sleep. Meals at the hotel are pretty good (mainly dinner). Breakfast is not so good, but it's free so you deal with it. Also, ordering meals at the hotel is a process. If you want to eat dinner at ~7:30 pm, order your meal at ~4:30 pm. This way you'll only have to wait until 8:00 pm to eat. All rooms have an anti-mosquito plug-in, which was very nice. In total, you can certainly do worse than Royal City, it is quite decent and worth going to if you can tolerate some of the minor inconveniences.

Hello Sam, We would wish to appreciate you for taking your time to review Royal City Hotel. It is good to know you had a nice stay and this feedback has really helped us to improve on some of our weak areas like the WiFi strength, duration of food delivery after placing an order, the 'not so good' breakfast we offer and the water heating system in the washrooms. The above have been worked on and the quality service have improved and thanks to your review. We do value your trust in our Company and we'll do our best to continue giving you the kind of service you deserve. Thanks and welcome again. Best of Regards.

I stayed at this hotel for four days while attending a conference in Kisumu. It is conveniently located. The staff are friendly and eager to please. The WIFI connection was a definite plus as we all required use of the internet. Good Kenyan food plus other cuisines as well. They could do something aout the door to the bathroom as it opens to the wrong side and can be a bit inconvenient, but that is the only down side. The room rates were fair, including the conference hall. I recommend it. They have a sister one in Milimani called Royal Milimani Gardens. Great too with a swimming pool, for those who want more privacy.

The room was hot (sunny side) had no ac, nor mosquito gauze in the window. Okay. the fronted owner Cornel osano must stop from shouting at employees in front of the client in-order to safe guard the business, he is very lousy and has no human ethics at all for running hotels. he was a bad choice to the owners.
