We really enjoyed our stay. Restaurent fantastic we had great value evening meals, staff very attentive, breakfast buffet brilliant, our 4 and 8 year olds loved the pancakes and porridge and I especially enjoyed the freshly cooked omelette. We were well looked after from check in to check out. Friendly staff, housekeeping efficient making up the sofa bed and the life guards even played with the boys in the pool. Great views of Gondar, nice to chill out with a drink while the boys played and easy to get into town centre.

The beds were comfortable, and the room and hotel were very clean. There is no A/C. The wifi was reliable. We had to keep our window open in order to keep the room temp comfortable, but that lets in the city sounds - so bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. Our room had a mini fridge which was stocked with free bottled water every morning. The staff was nice, but service was 'leisurely'. We ate at the hotel every morning for breakfast and food choices and quality were good. Trying to flag down someone to bring coffee quickly and in large quantities was always a challenge. They apparently brew it in small batches and serve in small batches. Having drinks on the patio outside at sunset was nice, our party loved the House Special Pizza, the Veggie Pizza and the Margharita Pizza as a nice diversion from the local fare. Order the kids size pizza if you're eating for one! The hotel ran out of water one night we were there, and hot water/water pressure were spotty at other times. The location at the top of the hill overlooking the city was key for staying out of the worst of the noise and air quality issues.

We stayed as a family for two days: toilet was smelling bad, room's sofa bed was not working, no running hot water, no wifi and the service in general was not good. The receptionist was rude... and overall the hotel needs improvement / maintenance work is required.

The Landmark stands proudly on a hill looking over the town. It is a large hotel with three floors without a lift and my room was on the third. I struggled up and resolved to go down only the once for supper but it was not be. The bell boy had said I did not need a password for internet access but I did and when I rang 0 as he had advised if there was difficulty, I got no answer. I gave up after attempt three and went down to sort it out. I did find good helpful service from a couple of staff regarding other issues. I discovered that the hotel was last transformed eleven years ago which will account for the wobbly tap, failed shower tray etc, worn bedside chair and one electric socket for all bedroom items. I trust that a lift will go in from the car arrival area to Reception and on to the bedroom floors at the next overhaul. The dining room is immense, more like a function room, and not attractive. The pizza however was excellent but a half was all I could eat. There is the option of eating on the huge terrace. I slept very well despite the chanting from the mosque I heard during my one waking moment in the night and again at 6am when the alarm rang. There was plenty of hot water to shower and shave. Breakfast was the usual range of unappetising Ethiopian concoctions or hard boiled egg and toast with honey. I drank weak tea to avoid the omnipresent papaya juice that I find unpleasant. There was no issue with cleanliness other than tablecloths in the dining room are not changed after one use. My general assessment was that the staff were not trained adequately and allowed to wander at will; in other words the management needs, in my opinion, to step up.

After making a prepaid booking through Jumia Travel, for which I paid $936, I needed to contact the hotel regarding transportation from the airport. I initially attempted to get a response from the hotel by using: 1) the email address listed on the hotel home page; 2) both of the two contact forms on the home page; 3) texting the phone numbers on the home page, and 4) messages through the hotel’s facebook page. Most of these methods were used more than once, over several days, and none of the lead to ANY kind of response from the hotel. At this point I was seriously wondering whether the hotel was even in operation, and therefore contacted Jumia customer service, who assured me that the reservation was OK, and provided me with the personal mobile phone number and email of the manager. I wrote an email to the manager, and sent a text message to his mobile, saying that I was eager to receive his reply to my email. I received absolutely no response from the manager. Then, after arriving in Ethiopia, I called the hotel front desk, in order to arrange transportation from the airport. The person at the desk surprisingly insisted that I talked to the manager about this trivial issue, and gave me his mobile number. I called the number, and the person who answered the phone promised that the manager would call me back. Which he did not do – so I ended up paying for a taxi from the airport... The day before leaving the hotel, not having the best experience with making agreements with the hotel, I contacted the front desk twice to book and confirm my shuttle to the airport, making a point out of the fact that it was actually important for me that this worked. When I reported to the desk at the time agreed upon TWICE the day before, I was informed that there was no vehicle available to transport me, but that they could call a taxi for me.. Obviously I was not pleased with this, and in the end the hotel paid for the taxi that brought me to the airport with some delay. I found this frustrating – after all, if you cannot trust a company to communicate with you, what can you trust them to do? Not having a lift is a strange choice considering that to get to the lobby from street level you have already walked the equivalent of about 5 floors (hotel is on a hill side), so if your room is at the third floor you end up ascending the equivalent of about 8 floors from street level on your own steam. With Gondar having an elevation of about 2100 m, you may find the more challenging that you expect, if you normally live at a lower altitude. The breakfast buffet is very Ethiopian, and has little to offer a western palate. Sometimes the front desk is staffed with personnel with whom you can communicate in English, but at other times it is not. On the plus side of things, the rooms are nice enough, and the view from the hotel terrace, over the city and the mountains is beautiful. It is obvious that the original plans with the hotel were ambitious, and that this could be a much nicer hotel with better management.

I stayed at this hotel many times and the quality has significantly deteriorated. I waited until 8:00pm to get in to my room as their key system has failed. They lack technicians and nobody has helped me except the lip service at the counter. I was unable to take my medicine on time because of this. I never recommend it for any one nor do I go to this place in the future.

The view of Gonder is perfect from this hotel. The architectural design is one of the best in the town. The service in the hotel does not match with the infrastructure. The staff need proper training and coaching. Otherwise the staff are honest and cooperative.

Hotel staff very friendly and eager to help. The elevator does not work. I kept wondering why they put me on the top floor when the hotel was practically empty. There is a good view from the top of the building. I like it!!
