Excellent location for short stays to visit Gonder and the castle in particular. However, Taye hotel needs a fresh hand of paint and a new set of towels at least. Some rooms also have weak or no internet access. Staff was pleasant. Breakfast has options of Ethiopian food.
The shower had no water, they gave me cold water in a container to shower. the room was dark, the lamps were just for decoration. The TV was just for decor, nothing in the room worked. I ordered a latte in the morning and they told me there was no electricity. I don’t understand how a hotel that big doesn’t have a generator. I don’t recommend this hotel at hotel at all. Terrible customer service.
Excellent and unique hotel in Central Gondor - set back just one block back from the Piazza in the historic heart of Gondor. Large well appointed rooms, though they vary in configuration so it is worth inspecting them first.. Set into a hill side, with hewn stone facade, it resembles a cross between a small castle and a large manor house. The photos do not do it justice. In almost full service mode, even in the time of pandemic, with attentive and friendly staff. Restaurant somewhat limited and lifeless, but there are many other options nearby. They seem to offer big discounts to residents and out of season travelers - ie anytime outside of January. A bit of light traffic out front, with many bajajs passing by, but nothing heavy, and the street is quiet after 6pm. The Bad - there will be some noise/ amplified voices from nearby churches at night - this is hard to avoid in Gondor.…
Moved from another hotel to here, I have no more complaint. At least everything works here - hot water, electricity and there is a nice restaurant downstairs. My room has a balcony, which is good. The hotel is right in the city centre and is very convenient. I would recommend staying here if you don’t mind the decoration a bit dated.
Twin room with a balcony overlooking the town. TV in the room which was showing premier league matches, and there was also a big screen in the bar downstairs.Good breakfast and dinner menu in the onsite restaurant. Clean room and friendly staff.
Excellent customer service and cappuccino! The hotel itself is beautiful and conveniently located near other restaurants and market. And only 10 minutes walk to the castle(must see). They have excellent breakfast and coffee bar!
We had an enjoyable time here. It was cold in the evening, so bring the right clothing. A lot to see, courteous staff and food available. We stayed there and traveled on day tours to return for dinner and our evening.
Located in the centre of Gonder, next to the palace, the hotel is good with a friendly team. The rooms are a bit old and would benefit from some renovation. Internet is slow and the breakfast is average. Good value hotel to stay after a hike tour in Simien mountains though!
Our room had a veranda big enough for a football match and the staff were incredibly helpful. Gonder is a great town to visit. There's lots of historical things to see, and also a lively night life with traditional music and dancing. Taye Belay Hotel is in the town centre, and you can walk out of it into the main square and to the Palace. The hotel itself is comfortable. The room was great although the bathroom could have done with a bit of updating. There's a nice downstairs lobby and sitting area. The breakfast was OK, evening meals a bit hit or miss. It's not the cheapest hotel in town, but very comfortable and a good base for exploring this great part of Ethiopia.
I booked this hotel as wanted a nice place to stay after trekking. The room was big and clean and the shower was hot! The best bit was the balcony view at sunset and it was a good place to hear the town come to life in the morning. The location is good for walking to town etc. Having stayed in other places in Ethiopia this did not feel like it was worth the price paid. It is not set up for tourists in the way other places are, in that the staff are not knowledgable about specifics of things people like me wanted to know such as bus times / how do catch buses. There are no places where people might mingle, which depending on the purpose of your travel may not be an issue for you. I could not find anyone in the restaurant even though I was told it was open on the first night and I wasn’t told times for breakfast etc. So overall nice rooms and location but my expectations for price paid were not quite met. …
