This is definitely a 'TIA' place - the bar/restaurant is nice, obviously recently renovated. It's a good place to spend hours. Which is just as well as the service is sloppy, the staff are surly and will readily ignore you for ages! When food does arrive (not guaranteed) it's often cold. Not so the rooms. If your first impression from the outside is "shabby", you are completely right. We arrived to find none of our rooms were ready, despite it being within check-in times. Then on entering the rooms, they are old-fashioned, the beds are lumpy, the rooms are noisy (well, 5B was, it was next to the laundry on the ground floor), the wifi only works in the bar (funny that), and there are cockroaches. And they've only given each room one small hand towel, even if it's a double or a triple room. There were no apologies, no timescales for when the tumble dryer would be finished with more towels (of the same, tiny, variety). Furthermore, it's sufficiently far from the other restaurants and hotels in town that you're pretty much stuck there. Not recommended.…

Hotel has deteriorated. From outside looks like a decent hotel . Being realistic it is cheap if you negotiate but you pay for what you get. Would give higher rating if any of the staff acted like they cared. Very surly. In terms of rooms - sheets are grey , there was Blood on sheets. and bedding smelt sour. Not sure it had been changed. No mattress cover on mattress did not allay concerns. Room basic but offers what you need. Very Hot water and plentiful but the bathroom is a wet room. Floor very slippery and dangerous as result. Would be simple to put in shower curtains. One small towel for 2 people. Has nice garden but View was of water tanks and this was supposed to be a superior room? bottles being sorted below late at night. Water stain on ceiling. Filthy lights. The garden is a very nice space. The menu is a joke. Nothing on it is available - no juice, no chai, no wine by the glass, no tonic, no pizza no this no that. As it is the same menu they had 2 years ago and nothing was available then either why not be honest and update menu instead of saying no to everything. Staff could barely raise a smile. Location not best either. Will not give it another chance.…

we had no expectations really, because we had to stay in the lammergeyer for its location and friends who had previously been said the hot showers is something relatively new. what can i say? showers were hot, but there was no shower curtain, so every time you shower the room is soaked. the sheets were clean and the room was neat. not luxury by any standard but decent. the restaurant serves great food-- skip the western dishes you're used to and try the injera with shiro or tebazino or firfir. it's delicious! wifi is intermittent- ethiopia has general internet issues and the hotel's wifi really only works in the restaurant. try room 4B, the internet their is better than most places. the guards are sweet and keep you feeling safe, the cleaners work hard all day and try their best. the whole place feels family run. but if you're looking for luxe, look elsewhere.…

Nice garden area. BUT: no wifi, no water for hours, smelly bathroom, lots of mosquitos, noise from the nearby road, small rooms and beds, staff that was hardly helpful and did not communicate any of the shortcomings (e.g. lack of water and electricity). Way overpriced for what it is. Would not recommend staying here.

Rooms were spacious, nicely furnished, hot water showers and tv. Restaurant on site had a really nice atmosphere, service was a little slow but food was tasty. We stayed here before and after our trip to the Simien Mountains and they stored our luggage for us whilst we were away. Wifi doesn't reach the rooms and was a bit intermittent.

Our room was small with no hanging space, decent beds and a tile floor with obvious wear marks, not that the latter worried me unduly. We had to ask for towels. Water was piping hot once we found out how it worked: make sure the switch is in the up position and the thermostat is UNDER the boiler and not obvious. Breakfast was acceptable: an omelette, coffee, fruit juice and toast hard enough to blunt your teeth. There is a large garden (tables have plenty of shade) with lovely flowers, a bar and a large lounge area. This was a big plus. The hotel is a bit out of town

I recently spent four nights in Lammergeyer Hotel in Gonder and could recommend it to anyone. For one, the location is wonderful. Opposite the hospital campus and away from the busy center, you can really relax in this well-run hotel with its wonderful garden and lounge area. The staff is friendly and efficient, the food very good. On top of that, you can mingle with outgoing locals in the evenings as the hotelbar & lounge are very popular. So if Gonder is a stop on your trip, make sure you choose the Lammergeyer.

We stayed at the hotel before and after our trek in Simien mountains. The beds were comfortable, the shower hot and the staff helpful. We left some luggage at the hotel while we spend four nights in Simien and everything was kept safe in the reception. Would stay there again next time visiting Gondar.
