Didn't stay at hotel, just had lunch at the restaurant. Nice view of town if you sit outside.
Service was OK, food average. I had a vegetable pizza it was very strange. Prices reasonable. Other friends said their meals were OK- fish nice, shero OK. Spaghetti was pretty average. Was chosen because it could cater to a large group.

There was definitely an effort to keep the service here to a higher standard. At this price point the room was very good. However the room I was in for a night shares a window with the one below it so it almost feels as though sharing the room with my downstairs neighbors. I could hear everything, (The first time I stayed here I had a different room where this wasn't the case, and it was fairly quiet.)
The wifi can be a bit spotty.
A guarded ATM is on premises from the bank below the hotel.
The terrace is nice to sit on in the evening and enjoy the view. while eating dinner There is also a nice shaded garden area to eat as well.
It was a 10 minute walk from the castles.
Overall I would definitely return here.

I booked a Simien trek here from a guy who I guess worked with the hotel. It was very poorly organized. I had been told a car would be waiting for me at the terminus of my one night 2 day trek. It turned out I had to break off from the group and hike back down alongside the road to the camp where we had overnighted. I had to wait an extra 4 hours for a car to come back up to pick me up. I thought for a while that I had been abandoned.

I stayed here a couple of years back and wrote a fairly damning review. I didn't stay this time, but did eat in the restaurant and have drinks on the terrace overlooking the piazza a couple of times. It's a great spot for observing people but little has changed since I was last there. The service is terrible - waiting staff just standing there ignoring you - I had to finally ask if we could get menus. And then you're given the impression that you're causing them a huge inconvenience by being there. The quality of the food and juices is poor. I was with a local who didn't even drink his juice - which is saying something.

I went for a vacation and treated badly. The rooms were reserved four weeks earlier, and all of a sudden a holiday event came and the hotel decided to sell the rooms reserved and then gave us a very bad rooms. We were forced to change a hotel and managed to get a place for some of us. The once remained in the hotel asked to pay double the price. During our stay there was no water even.

So this was our first trip to Gondar and immediately we were disappointed in our room. It had a horrible odor, all the furniture was old and the bathroom contained mold/mildew on the walls. We spoke to the receptionist who then allowed us to pick a different room but it took 4 total rooms before we settled on one. Make sure to ask for toilet paper as the roll in the room will likely be mostly used up. Wi-fi is available to some rooms but not all depending on where your room is located in the hotel and ours unfortunately did not have access to the Wi-Fi. Also there were many dead and some living flies in the room when we arrived. I even managed to kill a spider and find a bee in the room

Stayed here one night before and one night after a trek in the Simien Mountains and it's one of the nicer places we stayed in Ethiopia. Both times had a large clean room with attached clean bathroom in good condition and with hot water as well as outside windows and a small balcony. Free wifi was good and faster than any net cafe I visited on the trip but had a problem with it in the second room which was on the top floor and far away from the lobby. The staff were helpful when we told them about the problem and offered to move us to another room even though it meant they'd have to clean the room we'd just checked into as another guest was coming and the hotel was full. We stayed as we worked out we could hold the net connection if we got on just outside the room door.

Breakfast was fine, some Ethiopian food alongside boiled eggs, French toast, normal toast, tea, coffee and lovely fresh juices. Our airport transfer (used one time, one way from hotel to airport) was punctual and not at crowded. Food in the hotel restaurant is pretty good but service can be a bit slow and communication a bit difficult but that's pretty standard for the country. Satellite TV was a disappointment as the channels varied and we only had BBC for a short while before something else popped up. Don't expect to get your news fix here!

Rooms do vary as our friends ended up with a room with an inside window to the atrium so it was quite dark. As mentioned, hotel was clean and we didn't see a single bug in either room, corridors or on any of our visits to the restaurant.

The hotel stored our valuables in their safe for five days while we trekked and everything was returned with no problem.

We arrived at Quara (yesterday) as the hotel we had booked had no water. The hotel is clean, spacious, the rooms are a decent size, beds are comfortable, good showers / toilets etc. It also has an outside bar / restaurant looking over the piazza. So far so good. However, since then it has all been rather down hill. After a walk around Gonder, we arrived back at the hotel to find a nun at the front desk intervening as the reception person was literally yelling at a European couple who were checking out and trying to complain that they were being overcharged. We decided to have dinner on the balcony and while it was relatively busy it certainly wasn't full. It took forever to get a drink and when dinner finally arrived (injera and wot) it was a real disappointment - the worst we have had since arriving. To be fair, it was edible but not worth the price. Post dinner the water went off and this morning there was a queue of guests at reception asking what they intended to do about it. Finally, the cleaners came round to each room with a bucket of water. Breakfast was the next treat. There are three of us together in a triple room, but somehow that only entitles you to two towels and two breakfasts, so we decided to pay for a third breakfast. My advice is don't. The food was substandard, the coffee from a flask, and after being told on check in that it was 50 birr, it had suddenly increased to 75 birr. Oh and the electricity also went out at this point. When we asked if we could have another coffee, we were told that would be extra. I have mixed feelings about this place, because it could be great. But the total indifference of staff and management is beyond belief.

it has power shortages evey day from 2:00-4:00 and midnight to 6am. noise from the near by nightclubs wakes you up at night but this is common all over ethiopia. don't go to the Royal enclosure, expensive and nothing to see. the restaurant is good and the owner is a great helpful guy

We stayed one night at this hotel in December 2014. I suspect they must have done some renovations recently. The bedroom was compact, but adequate with clean comfortable beds. There is a TV and a small refrigerator. A small terrace with a view on the piazza. The bathroom was spotless. The shower has a 'massage' feature in it, but beware. The water pressure is low and you probably won't be able to enjoy it. More important, this was one of the few hotels we stayed in where one could mix the hot and cold water properly.
The restaurant has a view on the piazza and the food's quality was good. Breakfast was wonderful. Except for the usual local fare, there was a wide variety of cereals, eggs, etc. Try the avocado juice, sounds unusual, but really recommendable.

I paid USD 35 dollars while my Ethiopian friend payed USD 27 the same day for the same room type. My other Ethiopian American friend payed for the same room USD 20 a week ago. Upon enterin the room I killed around twenty flies even though some of them had been left dead on the balcony window for weeks. Upon flushin the toilet it stank horribly, so I took tide that was left outside on the houskeepin cart and cleaned it by my self. As the shower looked worn out and towels of suspicious non cotton quality, I didnt take a shower. The hotel restaurant serves amazin avocado juice, but dont order beef unless you want to break your teeth. The next day I moved out and found three times cheaper and cleaner central hotel. T he hotel receptionist didnt issue me a receipt, and upon requestin it, the price per nite field was whitened out, and corrected.....guess why....someone was playin with prices here....
