we booked a family room which can accomodate about 5. This is basic one star facility, you will be busy with your other activities and only come to sleep. The lodge is on the banks of Thamalakani River bit away from the Maun Town. But there is no water in the river. Lodge also have a small pool and Kids friendly.

The River Lodge staff and food are consistently good. They are a lovely team and make you feel very welcome. I particularly recommend the steak and bunny chow at the lodge. The setting is great too. Really like RL. Thank you for helping make our stay at Maun a happy one.

The campsite is average with too little shade and a ablution block that could be cleaner. Therefore the bar/restaurant/swimmingpool area is quite good with a relaxed atmosphere and good food. Sadly the riverbed is completely dry because Botswana is facing the worst draughts in 90 years. The booking of a mokoro trip was easy and the trip itself is a must to explore the Okavango Delta on water! Another point is the distance to the town centre of Maun, 17 kilometres, a 20 minutes drive. Would I go there again? Probably yes because of the friendly and easy going staff, the relaxed atmosphere and the good food.

Okavango River Lodge is situated just outside the city of Maun at the entry of the Okavango Delta. Once this must have been a beautiful place but now it has come down in a deseperate need of maintenance and renovation. Don't expect any luxury and what is there is mostly worn out or broken. Moquito nets don't fit, holes in them, windows are not closing ... Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good and well variated but takes a while if place is busy so you can enjoy your morning coffee with the view on the riverbed. Normally you would overlook the river from the bar but at the time being the riverbed was completely dry, donkey's walking through so the warning for hippo's and crocodiles is a bit of sarcastic fun.

Went to the bar for a drink. Staff and owner were arrogant and condescending. It was also dead and boring. Looks a little tired... I'd go some place else in future. River lodge next door was much better.
