Clean, airy room. Snorkelling below the hotel via a channel in the corals looked dangerous. Quirky garden with a sunset viewing platform. Looked like the hotel was still being (re)constructed. Service was friendly and totally on island time. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss in terms of what food was available and lots of flies. Dinner options were limited but ok. Lots of tours on offer. We booked the private day tour to the vulcano and beyond and it was an unforgettable day. Short walk to adjacent beach with easy access to coral free of charge and we did some amazing snorkelling there. Tanna is a fairly remote island so we appreciated what was on offer given the circumstances and were glad we had all the mod cons but not that removed from the local vibe like in a 5 star resort next door. We hitchhiked into town and bought some local produce. Absolutely stunning island with wonderful people.…
Location and hotel is beautiful. However, managing of tours could be improved. We booked our all day tour in advance but our driver was 1 hour late. Also, we did not see all we were supposed to. Lastly, we arrived for our bbq dinner in hotel and they urged us to hurry to eat because they want to close. We were a bit disappointed. They should be aware that it was not a cheap for a family of 3. So if you want to do tour without any problems, choose different hotel.
Evergreen took a king hit during the 2015 cyclone which meant everything had to be rebuilt- and they took the opportunity to rebuild with both hands. The resort picked us up at the airport and the employee who greeted us was also assisting other travelers locate their drivers (ours was the only resort employee professionally dressed with a sign with our names on it). The accommodation includes 2star to 4star accommodation. I recommend paying the extra for the aircon rooms- more expensive but you want to go back to a room that is cool and has more space. There is a path down to where you can snorkel and even a path under the water that makes it easy for inexperienced snorkelers (saw clown fish that was amazing). All sorts of tours are available that you can mix and match. We went to see the volcano and were not disappointed. Our driver took care and the roads are that treacherous you want someone who knows what they are doing. The Manager, Mike, was very helpful. Recommend taking at least 2days to do the tours on offer. If you want somewhere different to eat at, Whitegrass resort is a 2min walk away (and also has toothpaste and Imodium if you need it). Evergreen is also working towards rebuilding the fish and coral population and are planning a greenhouse and fish facility for sustainability.…
After staying for 5 weeks in basic village bungalows in Pele and Tanna, we decided to treat ourselves to 3 nights of creature comforts, mod cons and some quality accommodation. We booked through booking.com and received all the usual confirmations, but when we arrived, they didn't seem to have any record of our booking. We were eventually shown to a room where we unpacked. As we went to leave the room, we found the lock didn't work. Maintenance couldn't fix it, so we had to wait for another room to be readied and then had to move all our stuff. A few hours wasted. When we finally got down to the pool, it was filthy, you couldn't see past the second step. I know the volcano ash is a problem but they need to clean the pool regularly. And then comes the piece de resistance - there is not a single lounger/sunbed on the resort!! Just 6 hammocks under the trees (mosquito heaven) and uncomfortable wooden benches dotted around. You get eaten alive by midges if you put your towel on the grass. So that just leaves a few uncomfortable patches of concrete to lay on. Not impressed. At dinner on the first evening, there was no cider or brandy, no chicken green curry or pizza. On our last night, no bacon and no tomato, which effectively ruled out all the toasted sandwiches options. The reef is very disappointing - it fell far short of the hype on the glossy website. Also, they do not do scuba diving here - they walk you up to the resort next door. They need to clean and disinfect their snorkelling gear - two snorkels were black with mildew. On the plus side, it's clean and tidy and very pretty. The rooms are nice (good size and well equipped) and the food and drinks are reasonably priced. The food (when you finally get to what is actually available) is delicious. The staff are polite and the ladies in reception kindly printed off some paperwork for me. This is the first critical review I have ever written and I have not done so lightly.…
This resort has great potential, it has ha lovely view, large grounds and a good pool. However, the service is the slowest I have ever seen in a resort anywhere. It can take up to an hour or more to get a meal and often the kitchen had run out of various goods to make dishes so the menu was much smaller than that shown. Even when we ordered in advance we still had a long wait on food (Although the meals were very good when they came). This was really difficult with two small children. In the end we ate our meals at a newer resort down the road. The majority of guests at Evergreen also ended up doing the same thing. It took over two hours to get our bags to our room and in the end I took the bags down myself. They seem to be understaffed significantly. The tour to the volcano was great, but beware, if you have small children you may want to give this a miss, whilst there are safety protocols I would suggest only taking children 10 or over. However, the volcano is amazing !…
