We reserved two doubles and one single, but they upgraded us to three triples for free. Parking is easy, right in front of the hotel. Views from the rooftop are fabulous. We had overnighted in Foum Zquid the night before (big mistake) and one of our party was very ill. She vomited all over the bathroom and the cleaning lady kindly cleaned it promptly. The beds were comfortable, the wi-fi worked well, the shower worked, and the water was hot (imho, those are the most important aspects of an accommodation.) We had laundry done and they did it quickly. The food in the restaurant is mediocre, as was the food in other parts of the town. Our party was in disagreement regarding whether the traveler’s sickness was from the food in Foum Zguid or Tafraout. We made the mistake of eating raw vegetables in both. There’s not much to the town of Tafraout, but the surroundings are gorgeous and Hotel Salama makes a great base for visiting them.

We read the great reviews and were looking forward to staying at the hotel. Rooms are quite nice, although it seems not many travelers stay here. At night there was no hot water, though we specifically confirmed in advance. They did not even hesitate to admit that much, saying that the plumbing is to blame and it is going to be fixed the next day. Next day, same story. They promised in the morning there is definitely going to be hot water. In the evening when we arrived back, they notified us, without even a single word of regret, that there is no hot water and we are free to go if we wish. It was 8 pm. We speak the local languages, but figured out it was a waste of time. We packed our stuff and left. NOT RECOMNEDED AT ALL!!

Stayed here for a night. The hotel isn't great - but given the rural region I'm not sure there's much better in the area. WIFI was available, but very spotty. There were very few plugs/outlets in the room - and there wasn't one by the bed. The shower is tiny and difficult to maneuver in. There is restaurant on site, but the food wasn't great. The margarita pizza I ordered for dinner was basically cheese melted on dough (no apparent tomato sauce). If you're just staying for a night it should be fine - but not a hotel to go out of your way to stay at.

Following a long drive in heat we were happy to find rooms to stay at the Hotel Salama, clean, cool (good working air con) and calm - some rooms had little balconies with a table and chairs overlooking the square and across to the mountain range that encircles the town.

My wife and I stayed here for one night in late April, ‘19 while we on a small group tour of Morocco. The hotel is in an excellent location, right off the main square with easy access to the market and to nearby shops and restaurants. It has an attractive Berber-style design with an open lobby to the upper floors. The lobby area was not as welcoming as it could have been, however, because for some reason it was kept very dark during our stay. Our room was on the second floor, #123. There is no lift but we got help with our luggage. The room was fairly large and seemed recently refurbished in an adobe-walled Berber style. There were two twin beds, one night stand, a desk, a couple of small divan chairs, and an open closet (no safe). The bathroom was good-sized, shower only, and no vanity counter space and very few amenities. Wifi in the room was strong and fairly fast. Our main complaint was that the room was very cold during the night, obviously a seasonal problem. Breakfast was served in a restaurant below the lobby and was very basic – juice but no fresh fruit, a limited offering of baked goods, coffee. Overall we’d say the Salama is ok for a short stay, but if we were to return we’d likely try somewhere else, perhaps the St. Antoine Hotel a few blocks away from the square, where we stopped for a drink. It looked very inviting even though it had less character, and would have the advantage of available parking if you had a car.

This hotel has both good and bad characteristics - so, it's up to you to determine what is important to you and what is not, and make an informed decision. There are trade-offs. GOOD: Perfect location downtown, close to everything. Very nice traditional architecture. Very clean. Reasonably comfortable beds, with duvets. Friendly staff, all languages spoken. Very good value for money (200 Dirhams a night single). There is a restaurant onsite, and many other restaurants within a 5 minute walk. Rooms at the front of the hotel have a nice little balcony overlooking the souk. BAD: Very unreliable and continually intermittent internet access - seriously frustrating. Heating & air conditioning systems are not well maintained, and constantly cut out and fail... you will need to ask for an electric space heater if you are here in the cool season. No daily maid service (linen is changed once a week). There is another hotel in this town that is more modern, more highly rated on Trip Advisor, and does not have the above problems (and is in a much quieter location), it is the Auberge Kasbah Chez Amaliya. But, that property is 4 km out of town, if you don't have a car, or if you want to be in the center of the town, it would not be suitable. So, make your decision based on where you want to be (center of town vs. out of town) and how important internet and heating/cooling are to you.

Stayed here for a couple nights on a trip through Morocco. Hotel was ok. As stated you get what you pay for. Room was ok size, bed not too comfortable. There were no outlets in the room ! We had to unplug the tv to plug in a multi plug so we could charge our devices and cameras! If you were wanting to shave or dry your hair in the washroom ... forget about it ... no outlets! Restaurant was ok - good prices. View from room was ok - second floor with small balcony. Couple problems getting in and out tho.... I prepaid for a large room and was given a tiny one with 2 single beds - went back to reception to explain , they were good about it and gave us the room I paid for. When we left they wanted us to pay.... I had pre booked and pre paid with hotels.com .... they didn’t seem to understand that . I pulled up the confirmation on my email that said I was fully paid and they finally just let us leave . SO if you do pre book and and pre pay have your confirmations handy! Oh and parking is free .... except for the little guy that insists on helping you park the near empty lot and then hounds you for money! Lol- but I’m staring to see that as a tradition of Morocco :)

Hotel Salama is the biggest building in the center of Tafraout and is kind of attracting you to stay there. We spend there just one night. The room was spacious and comfortable with a small window. On the top of the hotel there is a terrace that you can enjoy the mountains around the town. Even for backpackers the atmosphere of the hotel was very welcoming and the price not so high.

We had a family meal in the evening. We were disappointed by the quality of all the meals. Undercooked fries and oily tagine. Reasonable price, but we had expected a better experience. It's actually quite hard to find a good tagine in the town centre.

We stopped for a drink in the restaurant and were met by a helpful and friendly young waiter. He took our order and seeing we were foreigners he changed the crockery to his bone china tea cups, obviously for special people. The coffee was good but a bit cold. The price was very good and just watching the world go by was interesting. We liked it very much.
