We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour and found the hotel room extremely minimalist. Bed had mosquito net, room had a fan, minimal power outlets, shower was hand held only.
Free wifi only at reception/restaurant. Quite a few stairs to get up to some rooms, but lovely view.

Friendly reception and restaurant staff. Located on a busy street and close to the small village. Parking on site
Room was very clean with shiny floors and fresh clean linen. Comfortable mattress and pillows. Mosquito net but no mosquitos in room. Hot shower but no shower curtain. No TV or mini fridge
Breakfast was tea, coffee, juice, roll, butter and jam, egg of your choice.
Big uphill climb from reception to reach the rooms, ascending stone ramps and 25-30 steps. There is staff to porter your luggage.
Note:There is a room in the main building that emits noxious smoke all day due to burning ?charcoal! This smell made its way uphill and into my room.

This is a great little hotel comprised of several bungalows, pointed on a hill overlooking the surrounding village and Ranomafana National Park. Rooms were nice and clean and we found lots of different wildlife on the premises. The staff was very nice and always willing to show us different species of frogs, chameleons and geckos. Food was good and cheap, especially the Chinese soup that hit the spot!

Stayed 3 nights in family bungalows, which were great value, and superbly located.
Gardens are really pretty and from outside the front of our bungalows there's a great view along the main street and the forested hills behind.
Yes there's a steepish path to get up to them, but the payoff is the great view.
An easy short walk into town, but you're away from any noise, so location is perfect I think.
We were lucky with the weather in Ranomafana - apparently it rains a lot!
Hosts are helpful, restaurant service was good. Our roadtrip pile of laundry came back clean and dry, very reasonably priced.
(They have a VISA machine for card payment which was working at the time of our visit - this is a rarity in Madagascar!)
The restaurant verandah is a lovely place to hang out.
As well as the National Park day and night walks (Diamondra is a great guide), also recommend a trip to the thermal baths, arboretum, a kayak trip down the river and a meal at Le Grenat.

I’ve known this hotel since 2007. Unlike other places to stay Manja hotel though simple is always correct. The room is basic, the mattress is good and a hot shower after a walk in the humid forest is like a treat ! Everything is CLEAN : towels, bathroom, bedsheets. This is what you look to be fresh again for a long ride down South. . The staff is friendly and the food is good though not very sophisticated. If you dont look for luxury holidays this is the place to go.

Gosh, how different things can be. 6 of us - 5 over 60 and 1 under 30 stayed here for 2 nights. Firstly the restaurant was great, prawn kebabs, zebu and sauteed veges and superb flambee pancakes, very friendly staff. The rooms - 2 bungalos and one room were all okay. NO problems with wildlife, and we all slept well. The plumbing worked okay, just had to wait a while for the plentiful hot water to come thru.. Toughest part was the climb up the hill to the rooms - i had to act as porter for one of our group and was rather breathless carrying his bag. I had to admire the porters who must be very fit living here. PS we are not from a 3rd world country.

I can't believe how many negative reviews there are of this hotel! We stayed for one night as part of a G adventures trip and found it to be just fine. It's a simple no frills hotel but it's also clean and comfortable which is most important. It isn't claiming to be anything that it isn't. Our room was big and very clean, the shower was really hot and the porter carried our bags up the steps. All good! Food in the restaurant was alright, nothing fancy but adequate and breakfast was the same. Overall we were happy with it!

We stayed 2 nights in the new bungalows. The bungalow was basic but large and clean. The sheets were a little thin and the bed a little too soft for our tastes. The shower was large with hot water and good pressure. They had wifi in the restaurant. The food in the restaurant was average but it was either the best place to eat in town or the hotel/restaurant had an in with some of the tour groups. The service staff were fun. Value for money a good place to stay and eat.

Our tour operator has booked us in this hotel for two nights. After having spent half an hour in the room, we decided to leave. We had bungalow nr. 22, if I'm not mistaken - it was for sure the last one in that row. The room was tiny and looked basically like a prison cell, completely grey and nothing inside but a bed and a table. It was just awful. Also there was no heating, the weather was cold and rainy, we got completely wet during next day's visit to the national park, so staying there would have been a disaster. The restaurant looked gloomy, shabby and not really clean, I couldn't have imagined eating there. Internet costs 3000 ariary.
My advice is, book Setam Lodge - it is the only adequate accomodation in Ranomafana and switching there has saved our holiday.

We stayed 2 nights in a bungalow at the top. The room was just ok. The door did not close properly and the bathroom was pretty old and just functional. There was a mosquito net for the bed. Wifi is good in the restaurant but not in the room. The meals in the restaurant are huge but average quality. It is a good location to get a guide for a walk in the forest. Overall I would not recommend it.
