We stayed here twice over the course of our trip, first time on the first floor and second time on the second floor. Because the entrance to the rooms are open to the parking area, we weren't too comfortable being on the first floor. The rooms are nice enough, lighting is not the greatest but it was comfortable to spend a couple nights in. Above all, we loved the restaurant on site. The food was incredible and the service even better. Prices are a mid range for Madagascar, but still really low for North America for high quality food. We had breakfast included with our room and it was great.

We stayed here twice for a night, and both times arrived too late to try out the swimming pool. However, we tried out the restaurant and the soup chinois was very nice and very filling. For breakfast there is a quite extensive buffet, which is rare in Madagascar. The rooms are nice, nothing special, but spacious, with working wifi in the room, and a decent bathroom with hot water. The location is not ideal, but is also not far from the centre of town.

Stayed as part of a group tour. Was not expecting a place this nice. Lovely rooms that looked recently renovated. The restaurant was outstanding, with excellent French style cuisine. WiFi even worked in the rooms, which is rare in Madagascar. Was rather sad to only be staying one night, as we never had a chance to use the pool or other facilities. But the place was lovely. Recommended.

You can see that they have spend a lot of attention to detail in this hotel, not only is it functional but it also looks nice. My room had a (small) LCD TV, safe, enough place to put your suitcase, a few seats... Beds are really soft compared to what I'm used to in Madagascar, a bit too soft for my taste though. Restaurant and bar are also tastefully decorated. Don't recommend the pizza, was a bit blend and did not come from a pizza oven.

The room is very simple and basic, a bit overpriced for what they offer. The installation is very clean, WIFI works fine (rare exception in Madagascar). Despite the pool and sauna is include in the price, was not available but they charged us the full price anyway. The room looks just fine but needs a bit of attention, like fixing the shower handle. The restaurant is a good spot, nice good, kind and friendly staff, good prices for quality. Just an average road hotel more.

Pretty nice hotel, the room was pretty clean and neat, plus the bar and restaurant were nice. Not sure if it is the nicest in town, but I would definitely recommend to upscale friends to stay there. I didn't try out the pool, but it looked nice.

Very clean and comfortable, with a nice pool and garden and good service, high quality wifi. This is an outstanding choice for this town and I would stay here again. The red brick tower and architecture is charming.

Hotel Vatolahy in Antsirabe, is located at the back of an innocuous facade and can best be described as a public bar with accommodation added as an after thought. The greeting was friendly enough but the room located on the ground floor was subjected to vehicle exhaust and engines echoing in the courtyard directly outside our room - all rooms face inwards. The receptionist directed us to the room and checked to make sure that the hot water was connected. The toilet flush was extremely slow to refill, the shower supply a mere dribble and the advertised Wi-Fi signal was extremely weak and inconsistent. The room itself can best be described as being like a budget Motel with plain brick walls, concrete floors and a mish-mash of non-matching furniture and our non-smoking room showed burn marks on the bed-linen that indicated the sheet had been subjected to dropped cigarette ash somewhere in its history. The restaurant experience is one not to be forgotten. The floor area is currently divided into 3 sections. the first is undergoing a surface change whereby the current tiles are being covered by cement, the second is devoted to diners with a selection tables lit by a variety of differing lamp designs and the third section, separated from the dining area by a louvred screen, contains three pool tables, a bar, a source of music loud enough to make your ears bleed with the associated banter that one would expect from a public bar mentioned earlier. At our table we found the cutlery tainted with finger-prints, the table linen dirty and stained and a thin layer of cement dust covered the plates. The service was provided by one single individual straight out of Fawlty Towers and the food quality barely approached an average category. This is most certainly one of the most dismal, uncomfortable and depressing places I have ever stayed at.

This was an obligatory stop for the classical Madagascar tour. The hotel itself had an "America Motel" atmosphere which was underlined by the presence of a billiard (which has to be payed extra). The rooms were small and really cold, indeed there wasn't any sort of heating system, the swimming pool was closed for restructuring and the restaurant wasn't that good. For the city where it's located, this hotel is one of the best choices but it can't stand the comparison with other hotels in Madagascar.

As I travel to Antsirabe on business, I have stayed at the Vatolahy a number of times over the last few years. It's worth noting that the hotel has made extensive renovations (including the indoor pool and sauna) during the last couple of years, but prices have not increased too much. The owners and staff are friendly. It's clear that they are making an effort to offer quality accommodation at a reasonable price. Like many hotels in Antsirabe, the Vatolahy tends to draw customers who are spending the night on their way to another destination (unfortunate as the town has much to offer). It is a fairly large hotel, which detracts from its charm but means that can handle groups. The fact that it is located right on the main road makes it accessible, but also somewhat prone to noise from trucks passing in the middle of the night. On the other side, the courtyard / parking lot area tends to become noisy with vehicles and tour groups early in the morning. Although not a constant, the noise level is one of the drawbacks. On the premises there is a decent restaurant which gets mixed reviews, and also a bar that attracts local customers for billiards. The restaurant is convenient if you're staying at the hotel, and breakfast (not included with room) is one of the better things on offer here. However, for other meals there are much better restaurant options in Antsirabe. I can recommend the Vatolahy mainly due to the fact that is better than many of the other hotels that we have tried in Antsirabe. There are better options, but those tend to be in a different price range as well. Although probably not ideal for a longer stay, the Vatolahy is certainly fine for one or two nights.
