This is a nice hotel with good rooms. The rooms are quite far from the main reception building but you can drive up to them. There are steps up to each room so it's not ideal for those with mobility issues. The food is nice, with 2 or 3 vegetarian/vegan options (a luxury in madagascar!). Also there is wifi but it is extremely slow and only works in the reception area. Bonus points from us as my husband lost his swim shorts there but they found them and kept them until we were driving back through and able to collect them a week later - very kind of them! Staff also speak passable English and excellent French.
What a lovely place to have a holiday ! From the restaurant you look straight into the forest - the national park is just a couple of minutes away (walkable if needed). Food is great (and not expensive at all !), service is friendly and efficient and the cabins are very nice. They are spacious, well-equipped with plenty of bedding for the cool, humid nights. You get 2 fresh towels every day - a rarity nowadays. Wifi is available near the lobby.
You go to Madagascar for the wildlife not the WiFi. Which is fortunate as the WiFi is spectacularly awful at this lodge. The views from the breakfast terrace towards Analamazoatra reserve are spectacular though. I saw critically endangered indri from the terrace at lunch and their haunting calls are regularly heard. Brown lemurs bounced around in the early evening and a boa constrictor nestled in a nearby tree for several days. Three reserves (Analamazoatra, Mitsinjo and VOIMMA) are within walking distance. Maromizaha and Mantadia require 4WD but recommended for off-piste trekking. Vakona is a glorified zoo and best avoided. The bungalows are very dark and cool, but electricity and hot water are reliable. Not a bug to be seen in September. The restaurant menu is quite varied for a remote place and I enjoyed Malagasy dishes of tilapia and pork ravitoto. The service can be a little Fawlty Towers. I ordered a beer at 8.45pm. The waiter tapped his watch and said they were closing as there weren't any people. The restaurant are desperate to get you into your bungalow as early as possible - soon it will be closing before it opens! Clearly, no staff profit sharing going on here, but overall an enjoyable stay on the edge of the forest. …
Clean decent room. Stayed in bungalow with forest view. Surprisingly, no mosquito problem. There were no mosquito coils provided either. There was mosquito net. The bungalow was clean and had a loft bed in addition to the queen bed. There were two wall plug-ins, and one in the shower room. Toilet and shower rooms were separate. Reception was not very friendly, but was able to provide for basics. Internet was available only in restaurant and closed at 8pm Breakfast was supposed to be included in price, but turned out not to be. Accepts cards with a 5% handling charge. Reasonable accommodation for the price.
We saw several lemurs from the back of our room! The restaurant is good. This place is a short distance from nature parks with lots of wildlife. Great place for Herping, Birding, and more. The beds were nice and not many bugs in the room.
it is good location to the parks, very near , you can walk to all parks, except mantadia,it is very easy to take a night safari. the room is good, bu no windows , but here it is cool in the night, no mosquitoes,no water heater , you can go to the restaurant ask tea or coffee, shower water is very good. the restaurant always busy at eating time, may be you sit half hour you receive nothing ,including menus , but the food is delicious and wine is good , you need to take easy in here. if you need rent a car you can ask the boss.
A cute and nice bungalow on the side of the national park. You hear the indris in the morning and at the end of the day which makes this stay the perfect experience. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and good food for breakfast and dinner. You will have a view on the national park.
I highly recommend you stay at the Feon'ny Ala hotel because it quite likely will become your trip favorite! It feels like you're staying in another world surrounded by the rain forest, and the soulful cries of the lemurs calling to one another early in the morning. Don't worry because you should already be awake so that you can set off bright and early to observe the wildlife. (Re: the bungalows:- Our G-Adventures group stayed in the upper level bungalows down the road from the restaurant area. The stairs weren't any problem for our group whose ages ranged from 23 to about 71 yrs. The bungalows are lovely looking and very unique. Dimly-lit, so pack your headlamps. Meals were excellent. Be prepared to wait for meals. The Malagasy's warn you that things move slower here. Keep in mind that you're in a Third World country. The Malagasy people are kind, pleasant people. They're doing their best to satisfy tourists. We must be grateful for the honor of visiting their country.…
I just checked out of the Feon’ny Ala this morning, and was a bit sad to leave. The setting is unbeatable, with amazing views from your bungalow and the outdoor restaurant. Hearing, and seeing, the lemurs from the outdoor restaurant was a treat of what was to come when I first checked in. The bungalows are basic, but mine was exceptionally clean. It does get cold at night, and the bedding kept me very warm. The restaurant has an extensive selection to choose from, which range in price from 10,000 — 20,000 Ar per dish, and offers items for vegetarian eaters. As others have noted, you can hear your neighbors when they get loud, but it dies down very quickly. And the stairs. There are lots of stairs to climb, so if you have mobility issues, you may want to inquire when making a reservation about the bungalows on the ground level. But the stairs do allow for the hotel to be set on various levels, which gives everyone an incredible view of the rainforest. The hotel does take credit cards, but the machine doesn’t always connect, so try at different times of the day. One last note. The first night, the power was cut late at night, which is not unusual for places like this, so be sure to have a flashlight nearby, or a small camping light. The second night, power was available all night. My only regret is that I wasn’t able to stay longer. I highly recommend this place to everyone without hesitation.…
Like many hotels in Madagascar, this one has bungalows as rooms, which are spread out over the terrain. The bungalows are nice, with private bathroom, but one needs to climb some stairs to reach your bungalow. In between the bungalows they have planted some nice plants. The location is great, across the water is the national park, and from the restaurant terrace one can observe the rain forest and with a bit of luck spot some lemurs jumping about. The restaurant serves a Chinese-Malagasy cuisine, which is nice and filling. Great place for visiting the nearby national and community parks. Wifi works decently well in the inside restaurant and reception area.
