Nestled on the edge of a leadwood and fig tree forest, overlooking the vast Khwai River floodplains and beyond into the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, sits the luxurious Belmond Khwai River Lodge. Khwai is renowned for its large concentrations of mammals and it is not unusual to see many different types of wildlife from the comfort of your own private deck. As a year round destination for wildlife, predators can regularly be seen in the area, rated as one of the most prolific in Botswana for viewing wildlife. The exceptional location of Khwai makes it a regular host to Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Wild Dogs. Birdlife can also be viewed in abundance with exceptional sightings of wildfowl and raptors near the lodge. At Khwai River Lodge, you are close to Africa's heartbeat and at the centre of a world that has not altered since life began. You can sense this from the moment you arrive.

An incredible safari experience! The location cannot be beat – you look out on the river and can see hippos and other animals throughout the day and night. The lodge is well equipped, with friendly staff and well maintained (albeit sometime tired) amenities. We went to Khwai

Dear andrewrusk, Thank you for your review of your stay at two of our lodges. We are delighted that you had such an unforgettable experience with excellent game viewing too! The rainy season is such a fabulous time, the animals do become more active in the cooler wet climate, and there are so many babies around, it's superb! Two of the three Belmond Safaris lodges have enjoyed a complete refurbishment, and Khwai will hopefully also enjoy one in the near future. We do hope you welcome you back to Botswana again soon and you are welcome to keep up to date with the latest news from Belmond Safaris, find us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and search for @BelmondSafaris. Warm regards, Louise

Dear Terence M, Thank you for your review of your recent stay with us, and what a complement to be among the best you've stayed at over your years of enjoying African safaris! Your sightings were extraordinary! Obie and our all the guides at our lodges are extremely passionate about their work, and the wildlife in this beautiful country, and delighted that you were so well taken care of. We hope that you enjoyed a glass of your favorite sauvignon blanc in our well stocked bar or at sunset drinks over the Moremi landcape to celebrate these fabulous sightings? Warmest regards, Louise

The location of Khwai River Lodge, between the Moremi and Chobe game preserves, is the primary reason to stay here. The lodge and cottages directly overlook the river, enabling incredible wildlife viewing without ever leaving the property -- though of course the game drives are

Went here with a Tauck tour and it was nothing short of wonderful. Excellent local guides who knew their stuff and truly wanted to share. You truly live among the animals--and need to exercise some care! Once in a lifetime!

Dear TacomaAnn, These rare species are more prevalent at our Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge in the Savute area of the Chobe National Park. Unfortunately their behaviour isn't predicable and we are restricted to stay on the main routes, so to try track them is possible, but we might not be able to follow their path. There is a permanent watering hole at the lodge, and we have seen the sable antelope and eland nearby the lodge. I have asked our Head Environmentalist, Onx Manga, for his expertise and will follow up as soon as I've heard back from him. Best regards Louise

Does this lodge have water activities in the Okavango Delta?
Dear GrandmaAudrey, No, the best water activities is at our Belmond Eagle Island Lodge, and these include a Mokoro excursion, barge cruises, speed boats on the delta, catch and release fishing, and with the high water levels, this is the most ideal time to visit the Okavango Delta. Activities at the Belmond Khwai River Lodge include morning, afternoon and evening game drives, walking safaris, excellent star gazing, and outdoor Boma (traditional dining experience) to name a few. The Khwai River Lodge is located on the Khwai river and it offers the best game viewing all year round with hippos and elephants at the lodge most of the time. You will most likely see predators such as lions, wild dogs, leopards too. Hope this information was helpful? Best regards Louise Pheiffer
