To put into perspective, people were paying about $600 dollars in today's money to stay at this hotel 20 years ago. This week, my wife and I paid about $100 a night on average and we loved it. The rooms are very clean, spacious, comfortable. A/C and bedding is very comfy. The main pool features 2 small water slides that our kids absolutely LOVED. My wife and I enjoyed the all the tiny details in every corner/ crevice on this property from the cobble stone road drive from the security entrance to the lobby, to the marble stairways up to the breakfast restaurant. We loved the boat rides from the hotel dock across the laguna (24hr) to barra de navidad malecon where we ate lunch and dinner at a different place every day. The resort is 20 plus years old, so it isn't perfect aestetically, but ill take this over a brand new holiday Inn in san Diego CA ANYDAY. We will definitely be back every February on our yearly jalisco trip visiting family. When this hotel was built, it was designed to be a top 5 resort in the world! Unfortunately it didn't remain there through the years but I have to admit, I'm very impressed with the shear thought and design they put into everything. IF I had to complain about anything it would be the minute wear and tear aestetically.

I stayed one night in Room 410, Suite Margarita. The suite was really nice. There were 2 bathrooms, a sitting area, dining table, small kitchen area, and a good size bedroom. There was a lovely terrace/patio with a partial water view above the roof tops. The bed and pillows were pretty comfortable.
There was a restaurant which offered a buffet dinner for 300 pesos. I believe that you could also order off a menu. This is also where the buffet breakfast was in the morning.
The property is really beautiful. The grounds were really nice to walk around. Lots of water views from different vantage points.
There is a little town across the water that you could take the water taxi to. I believe that a round trip was between 30-40 pesos return.
For me, the biggest negative was that the walls were thin. I could hear the family next door talking. You could also hear conversations/echos from the corridor. I had to wear ear plugs to sleep.
If the opportunity ever came up again, I would love to stay at this property and take the time to explore and enjoy all the amenities that it had to offer.

Thank you very much for your comments, it is always a pleasure to hear that our guests have had a wonderful vacation at our property, we will share your comments to our staff to keep working for this kind of motivation. On the other hand, we really sorry about the thin walls in the rooms, and we are glad to hear that you used the ear plugs and it worked out to you. We look forward to receive you again at Grand Isla Navidad Resort. Cordially Juan Carlo Rincones. General Manager.

We were welcomed for day use at Grand Isla Navidad Resort by Lucia Valencia Millan. Although there was a modest day use fee we found it a most excellent hotel with an accommodating staff, lovely grounds, fine dining and good access to the lagoon for swimming. During our visit to Barra de Navidad the surf was very high and dangerous and the Grand Isla Navidad was the perfect respite. On our next visit to this area, this hotel would be our first choice. Maybe I'll bring my golf clubs as well since the 27 hole course was very inviting.

Very old hotel, bad food and no variety, terrible staff starting with the reception and the waiters, only two poorly distributed bars, and the cleaning was rather lacking, a lot of maintenance is lacking: water leaks in all the bathrooms (we booked 4 rooms) and in one they had to change rooms because water began to leak from the room above, through the hallways and in the lobby there were many leaks, I definitely do not recommend it!! Plus it doesn't have a sea, it's just a lagoon!! Bad experience! 😔

I pick the Grand Isla Navidad Resort to spend the 2020 Xmas season with my family and got just disappointed. The hotel is promoted as a 5 star but it is not! service is pretty bad, starting at check in with no room available at 4 pm and no options from the service staff. No internet in my room and no towels in the gym. Location is great and landscape is beautiful but the hotel is disappointing. Take a look somewhere else around Manzanillo or Careyes

I would like to stay at some of the hotels that people who gave this place less than a five star review. We enjoyed our stay very much. The rooms are spacious. Staff are friendly. The facilities are luxurious. The breakfast buffet is terrific. We did not play golf. A two minute (20 peso) boat ride shuttles you back and forth to Barra de Navidad which has an assortment of local eating options. You can also access the resort via road, but the boat is the way to go if headed to Barra or points north. The hotel is reasonably priced for a place of that caliber. It’s not a place to go if you want to immerse yourself in local culture, but it is a very comfortable and enjoyable place to spend a few days.

Not what I expected for the rate I paid-all inclusive. The pool bar's hours are from 11am to 6pm when the pool closes at 8pm. Not coherent. And the only adults pool does not have any bar service. Once again not coherent. The personal did not serve me a drink because it was 10:58am and answered they didn't open until 11am. Horrible attitude. The workers just seem unhappy to work there. You don't get wifi in the rooms, only in the common areas. I didn't have a frigobar in my room so they took me a cooler with ice instead of giving me another room because I paid one with a frigobar. Disappointed because I expected more. Will not return, since there are better hotels that meet up to my expectations for less cost.

My family and I have been staying here periodically since 2000. Unfortunately, about five years ago, the management company changed and the current manager is Juan Carlo Rincones. Under his management, the hotel has declined in quality.
The rooms have several issues and are in need of renovation. However, the most disappointing aspect is the staff. The waiters are very sweet. However, the people at the reception, working in reservations, and higher up like Juan Carlo and Adrian Schjetnan, who is a manager of sales, are not nice towards customers, especially foreigners.
Adrian Schjetnan emailed me as his staff member tried to take additional money from us when there was an issue with our reservation instead of contacting the person who arranged it. His email subject line read "WHAT ARE TRYING TO ACHIEVE." He accused me of being dishonest instead of asking me what had happened.
We have had other experiences when the front desk staff has been aggressive towards us and left us waiting for hours outside at night for transportation they had promised.
When I tried to ask to speak to the manager's supervisor, he responded by threatening to block my email address. There isn't transparency in the culture of the hotel. I think if you are a foreigner and have standards, you will be disappointed.
We are constantly running into issues where it seems that the staff doesn't know how to treat others well. The problem is Juan Carlo and how he neglects his staff by not properly training them.

Do not stay here!!!
The hotel is extremely old, dirty and smelly.
I was looking to stay one night before setting sail with my family, didn't really have high expectations and agreed to pay a high tariff knowing that I arrived without a reservation.
Within the first hour of checking in and paying I realized the SCAM.
Its ridiculous how bad everything about this hotel is.
Long story short...
I asked to be reimbursed and they refused. We left and lost our money rather than staying in that s@#$hole.

The Hotel requires urgent maintenance/remodeling!
It is in poor condition, damp, lack of paint, battered and/or old furniture, bathrooms with tartar, something dirty in common areas, the gym with super old equipment.
The only thing they have good is the Lobby.
The attention of the staff is very friendly.
But the Hotel is very unpleasant.

Don't know whether there is a self-serve laundry at the resort. However, there are several laundry services in Barra that are very cheap and are accessible by a short water taxi.
yes, with 24 hour service.
We are "pet friendly" only if the dog is certified to help the disabled.
approx 40 US dollars
We don't use the spa but asked one of the
ladies who works there if Perla was still there and the answer was no. Given the communications gap she may have thought she was answering to whether Perla was there today, so take the no answer for what it's worth. The other option would be to pose the question to Juan Carlos the Resort manager. I would list his e-mail address but there is a block on for html or website in the answers. You could click on the Isla Navidad Resort and Marina website for an e-mail address. He and/or his staff are quick to respond to questions
