Stayed for 5 nights, from 23rd December. Where do I start, check in I suppose. Very poor service at initial check in. Nothing explained about services, breakfast etc etc. just, sign this, there is your key. Request a second key as we needed 2, was told second key is in key safe and to come back later as it was locked. Came back later and was told, no, we do not have spare key and we had to make do with one. Room was ok and comfortable. Service of room could be better, towels where frequently not replaced until late in afternoon. Restaurant service was diabolical, staff seemed as though there heads where elsewhere. Placed orders and frequently forgot what we ordered. Several times what we ordered did not turn up and we had to remind staff. Christmas evening set meal on Christmas Eve was terrible, pork and turkey turned out to be 2 x cheap cut pork chops and turkey was a small well over cooked drumstick. Had espies behind bar but no ice inside, beers out of fridge where warm, requested ice bucket but looks like there was shortage of ice, no ice machine at such a large establishment?? Swimming pool started to turn green second day of our stay. Looks like nobody at hotel has the skill to daily test water and add necessary chemicals, next day pool was green and closed. Booked 2 x tours at hotel reception. Following day waited on beach at designated time at the dive shop. No boat. Tour operator said hotel had not advised of booking. Ended up leaving beach 1 hour and 20 minutes late. Fishing was good and we caught small mackerel, but your was cut short by bad weather, losing the time in early morning did not help and a 6 hour trip was cut to 3.5 hours. Next day trip to Duke of York’s. Left on time. Boat driver did not stick to the planned itinerary and we did go ashore as stated and get chance to purchase artifacts. Went ashore on one island for lunch, but local people on beach did not offer us privacy. Next stop should have been snorkeling in calm shallow water, instead, we stopped on a reef in fast flowing channel. Water was deep. Meaning child was frightened of the water. It was a little rough and very fast flowing current. Would not choose this hotel again. There are better resorts nearby with more family friendly facilities…
I stayed here recently for a few days during a work trip.Kokopo itself is just a beautiful part of the world and I can’t wait to visit again. I stayed in a premium waterfront room which was very comfortable. I was in bungalow 28 which was closest to the restaurant which was very handy. The food at the restaurant was delicious - the New Ireland Lobster was just the best. Views from the deck during sunset were amazing. The staff were super friendly - Dominique was so helpful in arranging bookings which was very much appreciated.
Spent 4 nights in KBB. Considering it was my first time in Rabaul the staff are very accommodating and pleasant. Rooms are spacious and clean. The menu selection for dinner and lunch are exceptionally good. However needs improvement with the dining customer service. Apart from that the atmosphere, decor and setting is splendid. My mates and I could enjoy a drink while watching the sunset on the beach. A very relaxing resort and I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a short stay.
You will love this place. the day trips are fantastic with all the history in the area. The service was tremendous as were the rooms and day trips to the islands and seeing dolphins. The meals were all of a very high quality and the bar serviced the local SP beers which is a good drop. The Kokopo market is just up the road and is a great place to visit what with all the fresh produce.
Very disappointed which the way the front desk staff member treated my PNG partner on arrival. Breakfast is very basic. Requires additional order to get something decent to eat. Staff require a reminder to complete your order. Gardens, Resturant and room are ok, which is only aspects that saves this hotel.
We always stay here, there is a reason why that is, its amazing. The staff are like family they can not do enough to ensure that you are comfortable, they are accommodating and always smiling. it is always was to leave but we are always happy to be returning. see you soon
we brought a group here in october and will be back next year. really beautiful place with lovely staff, amazing diving - one of us saw dugongs, snorkling and dolphins, a good shop as well. can't wait to be back
This hotel is a rare little gem with great sized rooms with their own little verandah. The restaurant was fantastic with a mixture of traditional and western food, there is also a deck to sit on and enjoy your meals. The service was great in both the restaurant and the hotel. The rooms were clean. You can get to the local markets to have a look and also head out for snorkelling, diving and swimming with dolphins from the beach the hotel is on.The beach is a black sand beach. I would recommend this hotel in Kokopo
It is not easy to find such a place in PNG. We spent a relaxing 5 days here and enjoyed our big bungalow, the view, and the nearby friendly, safe town, especially the local market. Ideal for a taste of local life but in Western comfort. Like everything in PNG it is vastly overpriced, especially when the local wages are so low. As a consequence staff in PNG are not that driven and tend to forget things like cutlery with your meal. I don't blame them but it is frustrating to pay big dollars for sloppy service. If it was more reasonably priced, I wouldn't care less. The management are enthusiastic and it s a good place to meet fellow travellers including locals travelling for work. The tours are good but again way over-priced. Our room was very comfortable and there are lots of nice communal spaces to hang around. Recommended for R and R. But of course the only easy way to get there is by expensive plane trip. …
We didn't stay at this resort but visited here several times for dinner because our Aunt and Uncle were staying here, the restaurant at our resort was very poor and we were chasing chilli crab which was a specialty at this restaurant. Unfortunately despite ringing ahead both times to pre order for our group of 9, when we arrived, it wasn't available... However - I could recommend the fit-out and furnishings in the hauswind for the open air dining and the traditional items used as decorations throughout the resort. We departed for our dolphin tour from this resort and the beach shack where the dive equipment was stored was absolutely charming and nearby set up for a wedding later in the day. Management should tell their staff to mention when they hand out the menus, what is not available that evening rather than doing everyone's order than having to come back and retake orders again, especially when you are charging 1st world accommodation and food prices in a 3rd world country. Hospitality 101.…
