The owners and their family are very kind and welcoming, and we enjoyed sharing moments with them! Unfortunatelly, despite daily room keeping, the cleanliness is insufficient. The bed linen was very humid and even molded. The kitchen was equiped but could do with serious cleaning. Breakfast was minimal but alright.

A great hostel located near the airport. The manager Mau is a wealth of information on the island. She'll pick you up from the airport and drop you off for your flight. Rooms are cleaned daily basis. Tours of the island can be easily arranged from the hostel. The cleaning lady doesn't speak any english but is very sweet. The... More

Kona Tau has all the basic facilities but is nothing special, it was much more expensive than a nicer hostel that we moved to after the first night (Hostel Petero Atamu). Pro: it's close to the main road. Con: the internet is pretty rubbish (but this is true of everywhere on easter island) and the breakfast was pretty uninspiring.

Stayed there for four nights and liked it except for the stingy breakfast - for the price I paid I would have expected more. Other than that, they're clean, they change the sheets regularly, they know about the island and make good recommendations and are friendly, though it's better if you speak some Spanish, as their English isn't great. Also,... More

Overall my experience at Kona Tau hostel was mixed, the place itself is nice, but the owners tried to screw people over on the bill, so I´ll list positives and negatives: Positive: Breakfast is good and a large portion, its bread with butter and jam, some pastry, fruit, juice and tea. The people staying at the hostel were great, it... More

I had a fantastic time here. The rooms were reasonably spacious, clean and fairly good value considering. The owners were very friendly and helpful, and took me to and from the airport at no extra cost. The place is in a quiet country lane and there is a good view from the patio area. It's a shortish walk to the... More

I stayed in Kona Tau for about 5 nights this January and had a lovely time. It's reasonably priced considering how expensive the island is and the staff are very friendly and were able to answer all of my queries. I met a lot of nice people there. The location is very central, less than 5 minutes from the main... More

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. We booked at the airport and received a complimentary shuttle service there and back (the drive is less than 5 minutes). Location is very central - 3 minute walk to the high street and 5 to the beach. Room is basic, as is bathroom - shabby, tatty, but perfectly adequate with... More

This is a hostel that has the Maori's hospitality! Mara, the owner, is Maori and has pleasure in answering all questions related to Maori's culture. The hostel is very simple and very well located. It counts with a beautfull view.

I am giving Kona Tau a 5 since I was able to visit the island on a budget. It met my usual expectations such as having a good location (a 5 minute walk to the main street), the bathoom is clean (generous toilet paper here), the shower had hot water, they made my bed almost everyday (they missed a day,...
