I read about the Hoteria El Pilar in my guidebook and was exited to stay three nights outside the village of El Chaltén. The drive there on the gravel road was quite hefty and made a trip back and forth into town strenuous. I therefore decided to have dinner at the Hosteria. The food was simple but good, although a...

Beautiful and cosy Hosteria in the Natural Park of the El Chalten region, directly located at the trailhead of the Fitz Roy Base trail. The hosts are super friendly and helpful and I right away felt in love with the real owner of the place: the cat lady "Coca" :-). The rooms are very cosy and comfortable, with a beautiful...

This is our second stay at Hosteria El Pilar with the wonderful hosts, Guillermo and Cristina. We weren't feeling well, and they couldn't have tried harder to make our stay more comfortable. They're such nice people. Guillermo picked us up in town and drove us to the hosteria and later drove us in his spare time to the Rio Electrico...

We had a wonderful stay in this hotel last month. A warm welcome when it started snowing outside. Very nice people who are running this hotel. Excellent food and wines. They even had Salentein wine. The rooms are very comfortabel and clean. We will everybody advise to stay overthere.

This was our second stay at El Pilar and we came with our two children. I do not know why anyone would stay anywhere else. The places in El Chalten must be crowded. Here you are literally off the beaten track - expect no wifi, Internet or phone. However breakfast is included and you will pro ably want to eat...

We stayed here for three nights whilst on a trip to Patagonia. It's in a great location for walks - the Los Tres path is outside the front gate, and we also walked to the Piedra del Fraile hostel alongside the Rio Electrico (about a five hour round trip from the hosteria). Our room was plain but comfortable, with plenty...

For a city slicker like me, this hotel would be considered as "roughing it." Upon arrival there were no personnel to help with the luggage. We had to drag three luggages down steps and then up steps to get to our room. In the room, there is no phone to concierge. You want anything, you'll have to walk to the...

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at El Pilar in early February as part of a hiking trip to Patagonia. There are several ways to get to El Pilar but we chose to hike from town, a beautiful 17 km hike that had views of Mount Fitz Roy and the surrounding glaciers. For the next 3 days, we had...

If you like to hike, El Pilar’s location could not be any better, it is right at the trailhead of the Laguna de Los Tres trail (Mount Fitzroy) and only a short distance from the Piedra del Fraile trail. We stayed for three nights and walked both trails as day walks, if you do the Fitzroy hike you will need...

We spent 3 nights (family of 5 in 2 very large rooms!), superb location and the trails are just out the door! The guys who are in charge are really outdoors guys, and will advise you on where to go. The place is warm and friendly, with a nice breakfast and and fabulous fire place in the middle of the...

“Upstairs at the back has lovely views of the garden and the range. Downstairs at the front has garden and FitzRoy views ... hard to beat really. If you're a light sleeper, ear plugs are not a bad idea as the wooden floors are a bit creaky, but it's an early-to-bed kind of place so it's not really a problem.”
