This was our second stay at El Pilar and we came with our two children. I do not know why anyone would stay anywhere else. The places in El Chalten must be crowded. Here you are literally off the beaten track - expect no wifi, Internet or phone. However breakfast is included and you will pro ably want to eat... More

We stayed here for three nights whilst on a trip to Patagonia. It's in a great location for walks - the Los Tres path is outside the front gate, and we also walked to the Piedra del Fraile hostel alongside the Rio Electrico (about a five hour round trip from the hosteria). Our room was plain but comfortable, with plenty... More

For a city slicker like me, this hotel would be considered as "roughing it." Upon arrival there were no personnel to help with the luggage. We had to drag three luggages down steps and then up steps to get to our room. In the room, there is no phone to concierge. You want anything, you'll have to walk to the... More

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at El Pilar in early February as part of a hiking trip to Patagonia. There are several ways to get to El Pilar but we chose to hike from town, a beautiful 17 km hike that had views of Mount Fitz Roy and the surrounding glaciers. For the next 3 days, we had... More

If you like to hike, El Pilar’s location could not be any better, it is right at the trailhead of the Laguna de Los Tres trail (Mount Fitzroy) and only a short distance from the Piedra del Fraile trail. We stayed for three nights and walked both trails as day walks, if you do the Fitzroy hike you will need... More

We spent 3 nights (family of 5 in 2 very large rooms!), superb location and the trails are just out the door! The guys who are in charge are really outdoors guys, and will advise you on where to go. The place is warm and friendly, with a nice breakfast and and fabulous fire place in the middle of the... More

Stayed at Hosteria El Pilar last week with an American tour company and had a terrific experience. The small inn is charming, spotless and has a great location if you don't want to stay in the nearby backpacker village. Best of all the staff and owner family members were so welcoming. And the food was also great. Had a great... More

Hosteria El Pilar is a charming small hotel 17 km outside of El Chalten on an unpaved road at one of the trailheads to the famous Laguna de los Tres. I traveled solo just before Christmas and stayed for 4 nights, day hiking like virtually all other travelers to El Chalten. The hotel is simple and cozy - there's a... More

Hosteria del,Pilar is a quaint and cozy place. Runned by very you,g people, argentinians and italians. Attentive but simple. Breakfast is not elaborate and if you have a cold spell the heating may not be the best, but they make it up with their friendliness. Very well located if what you are looking for is hiking.

This is a nice place with nice guys who run this hotel. Breakfast is simple but with fresh fruits and fresh orange juice. Keep in mind that the hotel is 17 km away from El Chalten. So you can't walk loops, you need to walk the same way back or pay for pick-up.

“Upstairs at the back has lovely views of the garden and the range. Downstairs at the front has garden and FitzRoy views ... hard to beat really. If you're a light sleeper, ear plugs are not a bad idea as the wooden floors are a bit creaky, but it's an early-to-bed kind of place so it's not really a problem.”
