We came to Scarista House after three days at Cameron House and three days at Gleneagles and couldn't have been more delighted at the contrast. Perhaps it is that we are not big fans of the huge corporate experience (esp. Gleneagles where everyone seems to be surgically enhanced and accessorised with Louis Vuitton). But I think it's more than that... More

We came here 10 years ago on our honeymoon and vowed we would return and we did! We are just enjoying 5 days here. Patricia and Tim and their staff can't do enough for you and the food is brilliant!! No one is exaggerating that every meal is a treat. Great room, super comfy bed and neat little bathroom. The... More

Scarista House was just perfect for us. It has a country house homely feel to it. This is my favourite kind of hotel, the kind where you just feel at home, but it also has all the comforts of a hotel - fluffy white towels, comfy bed, tea and coffee facilities in the room and excellent service. Delicious dinners and... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review. That is exactly how we want our guests to feel - as comfortable as at home, but completely relaxed knowing that you only have to ask for something and we will do our best to provide it whether that's advice on a walk or afternoon tea. More

As soon as we knew we were coming to Harris this summer we tried to book in at Scarista House, but such is its popularity that they were already fully booked. However, we managed to get a table for dinner one night, which was superb as always. For those who haven’t been here, there is a set menu (except for... More

We stayed for my 30th in June (and surprise engagement), and absolutely loved staying at Scarista House. Such a great boutique hotel, with excellent service. We arrived to afternoon tea with homemade jam and were given a great welcome by Patricia and Tim. The spot is perfect, and we had views across the bluest sea and whitest sands. Stunning. Definitely... More

This is the third time we have been here in the last 10 years. I was reassured to see the same photo of the proprietors at Glyndebourne on the piano in the library. I love the reassurance of sinking into the sofas and meeting the other guests before dinner in a 'Room with a view' sort of way. The food... More

Well I can't really talk about the scenery and weather, but I can say that even in the rain and wind this was a very special place to stay. Traditional yes and not perfect either, but what was important to me as a guest was not the TV or Wi-Fi etc, but the things I don't get at other times... More

Wow! This place is an authentically charming treat. The owners and staff are warm, friendly, and helpful; the public spaces inviting; our room, Dot, has a world class view of the ocean and is totally comfortable...the food is noteworthy particularly given the remoteness of the location. Definitely want to return!

We arrived by bus in the afternoon and was greeted by the owner, shown to our quaint rosy bedroom, so British! Then we were offered afternoon tea in the library, great scones and cookies before we took a walk over the dunes and down to the beach. What a view, I could stare at it forever! As we returned a... Thank you for your lovely review. We have two dogs, Maud the pug and Tess, a cocker spaniel. Both will try and join you for tea (we usually don't allow them) and Tess will take you to the beach too. More

Of all my hotel reviews, this was probably the hardest. My head says 3 stars max, my heart says 4/5 stars. This is an atmospheric hotel where an olde worlde charm is being maintained, the food and service however is being let down by the state of the building and furniture. Our room was at the front and had a... More

This is probably one of the most difficult reviews to respond to. We’re pleased that you enjoyed our food and thought the service was good, but puzzled that you thought you paid a lot for not much. Firstly, our prices include VAT at 20%, over which we have no control. I wouldn’t normally go into such detail in a response... More
