Cosy and comfortable. Small sitting room with a log burner and basic kitchen-diner downstairs, 3 Bunk rooms (two adjoining) upstairs. One loo one shower. Small annexe may be used to store 2 or three bikes, quite a steep wee path with stone steps up which bikes can be carried. Coal and kindling provided. Beds have duvets and linen but you...

My first experience of a 'proper hostel' - just basic facilities in the middle of nowhere, and it was wonderful. Positives - the amazing scenery around the hostel; the kitchen has all you'll need; the shower is really warm, and there's a brilliant coal fire. Negatives - the room got really warm both nights and we had to turn off...

Got charm little touches like log burner, but linen not the cleanest or the bathrooms ok for a one night stay but buses are only ones twice a day so long slog for provisions overall if you like peace and quit it's ideal Just don't look to close at the cleanliness

Self catering, well kept hostel in an amazing location. We were the only guests and had the whole place to ourselves, the kitchen was well equipped and the wood burner gave the hostel a great heat and a cosy feel. Loved the honesty box payment approach, a great thing to see these days. Location is absolutely outstanding.

Thank you for staying in our isolated hostel in the wintertime and enjoying the hostel and its magnificent location. I hope you did not mind having the hostel to yourselves. This can happen any time of the year but it is also good to make new friends in these surroundings. Come again!

A nice little hostel in a remote location. Basic but clean, the warden Kate is friendly and helpful. If cycling be warned there are a lot of climbs to get here! Also only one place to pitch a tent. Make sure you bring plenty of provisions as there are no shops nearby.

Reinigideal hostel is well worth the effort in getting there - a beautiful remote valley by the sea surrounded by hills. The hostel is advertised as basic but it has a well equipped kitchen, heating, one shower and toilet. No wifi and you may struggle to get a phone signal, but that's one benefit of staying here. I arrived in...

Clean and well kept hostel, very basic, all food is to be self-provided. Such a beautiful location! Hills and sea lochs to wander around for hours. There is a bus service running all the way to the hostel which is approximately 7 km from the main road, but it has to be ordered in advance.

Maybe it reflects on the type of independent people who gravitate to Rhenigidale by so few reviews. I visited in early June 2013 during a spell of exceptional weather and was the only visitor along with two other Dutch cyclists. We had all, all three cycled into one of the most inaccessible hostels in the United Kingdom. We felt privileged...

I am surprised I am the first to review this hostel as it seems to have a regular stream of visitors even off season (judging by the visitors book), and it is in such a lovely location, with a building with lots of character. This hostel is very nice. It has two rooms downstairs - a kitchen and a 'living...

“There are only two rooms (the one to the right having a partition to fit extra beds) and they are both of a similar standard. The room to the left is smaller and has no partition. Both have radiators - but perhaps the smaller one would be warmer because there is less space to heat.”
