Sonesta Ocean Point Resort St Maarten strikes a chord with guests for its stunning location, just a stone's throw from the airport, casino, and idyllic beaches. While the value is debated, with some guests questioning the extra costs, the resort's cleanliness and range of amenities, including multiple pools and diverse dining options, are consistently praised. The service team receives accolades for their attentiveness and care, although a few guests have experienced slower service.
Room views are a highlight, despite criticisms of dated decor and small bathrooms. The resort's vibrant atmosphere is noted, but it may not suit everyone's taste.

Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
We researched St. Maarten hotel venues, a wise investment. We’ve visited SXM 10+ times in the past, stayed at Maho (family side) 24 years ago, and Simpson Bay Area as well. It was a pleasure to return to where it all began. Ocean Point exceeded expectations
Service: Consistently throughout the stay, our encounters with all staff throughout the resort was very positive. They were polite, inquired if assistance was needed, and greeted with a smile.
Butlers: To say the service was impeccable would be an understatement. All Butlers provided exceptional, timely, above expectations service. They have an excellent communication system, coordinate all tasks as a team. Vigillio showed us the property and set everything above standards; Dane provided exceptional service and went out of his way to ensure all extras were on point, Alex ensured all needs were happily met. Grateful for these gentlemen.
Rooms: We stayed in a Butler’s Suite, One Bedroom Butler Penthouse unit 501. It was very very spacious, we could have managed with half the space and still had more than enough comfort. The balconies are 180, the view is a beach sunrise view. The bathroom was spacious as well. The furniture was comfortable.
Grounds: Everything is very well maintained. Our visit had pool and walkway construction underway which did not impact the property’s beauty.
Restaurants: All are first come first serve, we didn’t have a problem with seating. There is room service 24/7 and food areas throughout the property. Even the lobby bar has small refrigerated bites displayed.
Azul - breakfast buffet and omelet station was great. The chef prepared to specific expectations, much appreciated.
Portofino - dinner was good, food was delicious (smaller portions but that’s to be expected with all-inclusive)
La Fontana - we opted for the romantic dinner for two, the food was outstanding, ambiance unforgettable, and service was on point (thank you Rasheed!)
Jing’s: sushi serving was small (2 pieces), bowls were average.
Beach: The beach is small set among cliffs, water can be rough. Ocean Point offers chairs set up nicely overlooking the beach near access. Great point about St. Maarten is the numerous beaches to explore if that’s your thing.
Pools: The zero entry pool has a few swim out suites on the far side and is available for all guests, very spacious, gorgeous and relaxing. Lots of chairs to relax in. The Deck pool with cabanas offers ample chairs, bar, music (not too loud, just enough). There is the hammock village just behind this area which is nice. The main pool was shared with Maho family during our stay and more crowded for our preference.
Bars: There are many bars throughout the resort and at least one was open until approximately 11 pm.
Entertainment: Nightly band entertainment, daily music and activity entertainment as well. What’s nice about this property is you can engage louder entertainment if preferred or relax at another pool without hearing the louder.
Location: Maho is an upbeat location and offers quick taxi access to other areas of the island.
Cleanliness: I have high standards for cleanliness, our room was very clean as well as the hotel in general. I did not notice any areas that grossed me out.
Cons: We did not experience any major negatives to report. The only note is specific to my needs where the room didn’t provide good lighting for getting ready; doing hair and makeup (pack small travel makeup mirror) or electrical outlets near room mirror (extension cord needed). The week we traveled the main pool was shared with Maho guests and far too crowded for adults only and our vibe. It’s understandable work needs to be completed and it didn’t impact overall rating.
Casino: We stopped in Casino Royale, the majority of dealers were rude, pit bosses unfriendly, and unwelcoming. Past years we’ve gambled at other casinos and did not have the same experience. Will not return to Casino Royale.
Activities:
Ocean massage with Serenity Spa was amazing, better than most I’ve had in the states.
Pinel Island, quick boat ride from Marigot and you have calm waters, excellent service, very good food, and refreshing drinks.
Maho Nevis tours buggy/4 wheeler excursion - excellent way to see the entire island but too hot for my liking. Our tour guide Andre was very knowledgeable and super nice.
Off site restaurants/bars:
Palapa Hidden Oasis in Simpson Bay - Highly recommend, what a gem! Amazing food, one of kind ambiance, excellent staff and service. Truly an oasis and one of a kind experience.
Perch Bar & Grill Orient Beach - burger and wings were good, service was great, sangria was excellent.
Dirty Sanchez Crew Philipsburg - best mojito!
Le Moulin Fou Maho - best French onion soup and excellent food
There were several places closed due to off season in Oct. Disappointed to miss but if looking for an upscale dinner, I recommended Rainbow, Mario’s Bistro, and Hibiscus.

I am a little late writing this review. After staying at the Maho side 4 times previously, this was my first staying on the Sonesta Ocean Point, one of the many reasons was because of it being adults only, and seeing more of a influx of kids on the Maho side each time I stayed. My vacation at the Sonesta Ocean Point was from Dec 26-Jan 2.
Rooms: I had an amazing King Junior Suite facing Maho beach on the 3rd floor I had a view of the Point Pool the room was cleaned everyday, fresh towels stocked as well as a stocked mini bar with sodas, water beer. At night they came to turn your bed over while you were out to dinner etc. This was a nice touch. No noise anywhere made it nice if you wanted to sit on your balcony in the evenings as well made for a quiet nights sleep.
Ocean Point Grounds/Property: The grounds are beautiful, and clean as well if you are looking for a relaxing vacation this is a place to stay there is no loud music blaring or a "party scene", very sophisticated and relaxing, and this is what I loved about the property.
Resturants/ Food: I dined every morning at Azul for breakfast, as well lunch and dinner most nights. I will say that it was repetitive most mornings (Fruits, Cereals, Eggs, Bacon, Pancakes, etc) As well a menu if you wanted to order al la carte. Lunch time the menu did rotate but I did find the dinners had the same repetitive bread and hummus served each night, which made it very boring, Also I found Azuls' dinner menus each night to have repetition of lots of meat and potatoes. Something to maybe consider to have some different variety so that you do not get bored. 1 night I ate at the Point, given that I am a returning guest especially 2 times in 2019 I found the Points food to be awful, bland and dried out. My noodles to my chicken Parm were over cooked, with globs of sauce, I thought my appetizer of a salad would come looking like one but didn't (I would love to see some improvement to the food at the point as there is so my potential to get the quality back to pre hurricane)
Bars: The Point Bar was my favourite to visit during the day at the beach/point pool, Sheryl is amazing!! and provides such wonderful service and conversation, and especially remembers you as a returning guest, as well Keric! provides amazing service for before dinner drinks and in the evenings after dinner! these 2 are the faces of the resort!...
New Years Eve: The resort puts on a wonderful fireworks show over Maho Beach at midnight they did a wonderful job, Azul restaurant had OK menu for NYE but I feel this could have been improved! New Years Day, I really didn't see a "special breakfast" in the morning.
I will of course be returning to this resort as it is one of my favourite vacation spots. But there is always room for improvement since the reopening in the last 12-15 months. And I know it will continue to be improved! I am glad to be a customer of this property

The adult only experienced was a nice change from having our large family in tow.
Views from our room, the restaurants, Sunset lounge and pools were spectacular.
The room itself was average, beds & pillows were ok, but not amazing.
Food was good but selections were limited.
Bar staff, especially Damien at the Sunset Lounge, were great.
Rooms service selection was limited, pillow catalog (as advertised) does not seem to exist and I would also recommend not relying on exchanging money for smaller bills at the front desk as they do not have a petty cash to do so (the staff went into their own pockets to make change for us so we could leave tips).
There was a Norwalk or other stomach bug going through the Maho section of the resort, so we tried to stay on the Ocean Piont side as much as we could to limit exposure. The resort was good with trying to make sure guests sanitized their hands before entering the restaurants.
Overall they are working on getting back to where they used to be before the Hurricane but I am not sure if I would say it is at a 5 star rating as of yet.

Dear anitav2015 Thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback regarding your stay at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort. We're delighted to know that you found our resort beautiful and appreciate the shoutout to Damien at the Sunset Lounge. The gastro-intestinal illness that occurred last month has since been contained and downgraded for a few weeks now as we've only had under 1% of total occupancy reporting an illness, most of which have been unrelated or have shown low-grade similarities of the symptoms required for Norovirus. We have not had reported cases of Noro this week. Also, while our resorts management teams continue to implement standard operating procedures, increasing hand hygiene and other preventative measures especially when traveling and throughout flu season, continue to be among the best advice across health departments, medical experts and professionals. Frequent hand washing hands and throughly in addition to sanitizers is recommended, especially while traveling. Our commitment hasn't changed in ensuring our guests are comfortable. Should any of our guests fall ill during their stay, we strongly urge to report this to front desk immediately so that it can be reported and assistance can be provided. We appreciate the recognition of our hard work and look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Warm regards, Nadeige Management Representative

Location was great and we enjoyed watching all of the incoming planes land. The view right off the cliff was awesome but the vaue for what we paid is not worth it. On many instances, the water for our showers and bath was just warm. When addressed by maintenance, he said "it will happen again" due to everyone taking a shower at once. For what we paid, I definitely do not think I should have to plan out my showers based on when everyone else isn's showering. I have never had that problem at any other hotel.
The butler service is a joke. One of the things they told us they did when we arrive was plan out with the cleaning service when we were gone so that our room could be cleaned. One day we came back at 3:15 and our room was still not clean. When they knocked on our door, they then seemed annoyed that we were in our room and that they had to come back. I have had better service at other all inclusive resorts where we did not have butler service.
Also, a majority of the wait staff at the restaurants are rude & unfriendly. We had the worst experience at Jing's. Overall, I would say that the food across the whole resort is just okay.
Our favorite days were off resort- renting a little motorcylcle to explore the island, zip lining, and body surfing at Mullet Bay beach.
Some highlights: Omar at the point pool is awesome! He took care of us, with a smile, every time we were at the pool. The night shows at the casino are also great and entertaining! The view from our room over the cliff was the best on the whole resort in my opinion! We enjoyed both of our spa experiences!
I think if I returned to St Maarten, I would rent a condo so that we could choose the best restaurants, choose the alcohol of our choice, and explore as we please.

Dear 618karlyt Thank you for taking the time to submit your review regarding your stay at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort. We appreciate the recognition of Omar - I will be sure to let him know of the shoutout. We're disheartened that you didn't have a nice experience with our butler service which is available only in our highest category suites to provide you, one of our most discerning guests with the highest standard of service. Butler service offers the attention where your every need is anticipated with minimum intrusion, hence the planning of services so that your stay is coordinated effortlessly for you. Butlers are usually contacted prior to arrival so that we can anticipate your every need. Regarding the temperature of showers, this is the case with most large resorts on any small islands or even stateside with residential buildings that have their own water cisterns and hot water storage. It can occur anywhere where peak shower times have high water demand such as early morning before breakfast and early evenings before dinner. Although unusual, this temperature fluctuation does occur at our resorts when at high capacity during these peak hour for about an hour a day when all of our guests require hot water. Our staff work hard to ensure our guests are comfortable so it is disheartening to learn that you came across a few unfriendly instances. We also regret to learn that you didn't have an enjoyable experience at our sister property the family-focused Sonesta Maho Beach Resort - which is accessible to Ocean Point guests. However, for readers and potential guests, Azul and Casa Blue are the only two restaurants exclusive to guests staying at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort. We certainly hope to welcome you again. Should you wish to discuss your experiences further, we ask that you please contact our guests relations manager Ms. Eloy at aeloy@sonestastmaarten.com with the hopes we can regain your faith in us again. Warm regards, Management Sonesta Resorts Sint Maarten

+1
We came to Sonesta for 5 days and our experience was absolutely excellent. Every single staff member upheld a 5 star level of service, accommodation, hospitality, and safety with regards to COVID-19 sanitization standards. We felt extremely safe, especially considering that the rooms were sanitized and sealed each day so that nobody else would touch the room besides the sanitization and cleaning staff. Our temperature was taken upon our welcome, and we were also encouraged to sanitize upon entry into meals and the lobby. Overall, the customer service completely blew us away. The welcome staff, including Kathryn, greeted us with drinks and a room upgrade, as well as individualized interest in our plans and trip, and Superman took our bags immediately and provided us with a good laugh. The front bar staff, especially Akeem, was so helpful in whipping us up special drinks whenever we wanted as we were going out or coming in. The restaurant staff, including Tiffany, Sharon, Lorna, Nicole, Yovany, Sashana, and Anthony went above and beyond. They set us up a semi private dinner with champagne and a special dessert for our special occasion, and for every single meal served us with smiles and individualized service. The food was excellent, and the menu at Azul Restaurant changed daily. The resort itself is stunning, overlooking a white sand beach, teal blue waters, and the infamous air landings of airplanes coming into the airport. We got a couples massage with two excellent massage therapists. The massage was excellent and overlooked the ocean at the resort’s private outdoor gazebo. We enjoyed the two pools open for everyone, as well as our own room private swim out pool. A truly unbelievable, safe, and enjoyable experience, especially during more stressful times. A much-needed getaway and a five-star experience.

Where do we begin! This is our first time posting a review, so we will start with that my husband and I had such a wonderful time that we're already planning on returning for my birthday in a few months!
We were in search for a nice getaway to celebrate my husband’s birthday with good food, wine, spa and sun, all within a short flight from Miami. We usually go to DR but wanted to try something different and with no kids. Well, we got more than what we expected! Our suite was fabulous, I had the best sleep here and to my fellow light sleepers concerned about the planes passing by, we didn’t hear anything inside.
The staff were so friendly and attentive, they go above and beyond. My husband jokes at how I observe everything but even he noticed how polite and attentive staff and management were. We had many great conversations, and in listening to their stories, we felt their passion for their work, the island and their guests. The entertainers too, they’re so talented and we saw them perform at one of their shows on Friday night at the casino across the street. The village is also a quaint area with nice shops, pharmacy
Too many to name but I think they should all be recognized, applauded, standing ovation for all they do, especially housekeeping, restaurants and bar staff.
The food. We go to many restaurants at home and enjoy fine dining wherever we travel to, and although we came in with no expectations for an all-inclusive, we were pleasantly surprised at how well presented and flavorful the cuisine at Azul was. For an all-inclusive, I would say it’s above average, service too was excellent. Breakfast at Azul was good too. We did go to Maho Cafe which was nearby at the family resort and for lunch at Palms Grill which was nice to see the planes land near the airport (we would stop our conversation to watch them go by, it never got old for us). Edge pool was our favorite spot as it was quiet and at the tip of the bay - panoramic views and the sunsets were amazing! There is another pool too that was closer to the other resort and the pool service was great.
Although we did venture out and explored the island, some of our favorite moments were definitely at the resort. We highly recommend the resort to all. Thank every one for making our stay wonderful. It was just what we needed, and more. See you in a couple of months!

Traveling for the US to Sint Maarten during Covid was not hard. Make sure you get tested and get the pre-authorization from the country and have it ready to show.
Ocean Point was amazing! After our temperature was taken via a scan, we were greeted with an aromatic towel for our hands and a welcome rum punch. Our room was pristine with a view of the pool and the ocean. Masks are worn in common areas like lobby and dining until you get to your table.
The pools were spotless and the bar staff was very attentive.
We walked to nearby Mullet Bay beach where we rented an umbrella and two chairs (sanitized) for 15 bucks. Well worth it because the sun is strong here.
The waves can be strong here but we went every other day and it was perfect.
The dining options currently were Azul daily and The Point Restaurant on the weekends.
Azul was the best restaurant that I’ve ever been to in or outside of the US, my home country.
It sits atop a rock cliff and the ocean is below your table. The staff was amazing and the cuisine was Heavenly!
GO! You will be treated with perfect service!

The resort was clean especially since I believe they had a stomach virus going around (we were not affected) they made sure all buffet service was served by the workers and there was hand sanitizer everywhere. We were on the adults only side, sunset view room was beautiful and the Azul restaurant was great. Our butler Nigel took excellent care of us and made sure our refrigerator was fully stocked with what we requested and he took care of restuarant reservations. Damion, the bartender at Sunset Point rooftop was so friendly, entertaining and just all around great guy!

What a piece of heaven this was.
After being met at the gate, rode in the golf cart down the path to reception.
Covid regulations followed by all makes this a quiet, calm and pleasurable stay amongst these bizarre days!!
Contactless check-in with friendly smiles, masks worn in public places, sanitizers, health stickers on doors only broken on first entry (verifying fully sanitised room), contactless menus. This makes you feel safe.
The roof terrace at night a wonderful place to see the night flights arrive. Beautiful views. Friendly service.
The suite room on 4th floor had a roomy balcony making it feel like an additional room. This helped when my husband had to take business calls and needed the desk for work.. So great to have extra room.
The restaurant staff efficient and very friendly.
The menu choices were appreciated during these days where ordering at hotels must be very challenging.
Thank you for the calm!

Sonesta Ocean Point is a beautiful property. This is my second time staying at a Sonesta property in Maho Beach. Once I arrived I was a little disappointed with my room because the ocean front view wasn't as advertised. My room was right in front of the roof. You couldn't see the beachfront unless you were standing up. The manager Alfred was very accommodating and offered to upgrade my room in a few days to a swim-out suite as all the rooms in my category were booked. We ended up just staying in the room because the day of the move we had an 8 hour excursion booked to St. Barths. The second day of our stay Jeanelle from concierge surprised me and decorated my room with balloons, had a bottle of champagne waiting and nice dessert platter for my birthday. It was so special and just so beautiful. The Azul restaurant was our favorite place to eat. The manager Melicia was very professional, warm and pays attention to detail. Overall my experience was outstanding. All of the staff at the property were pleasant and went above and beyond to make sure we were happy.

We were on the second floor facing the quiet pool and ocean. We could see all the planes coming in, noise didn't bother us.
Sorry, I don't know the official name of the room. It was nice.
Have fun!
You will need to book a sunset swim up or rooftop suite to have a butler!
