We were lucky to spend an overnight stay at the hotel. We had a lovely room overlooking the harbour. The room was absolutely gorgeous. We booked in the restaurant where we had a great meal with a table with a wonderful view. All the staff at the hotel were charming. The decor as already reviewed is quirky and really interesting....

What an amazing place. Quirky wonderful friendly place. As soon as I walked in I did not know where to look next due to the amazing ornaments everywhere. The Sunday lunch was lovely and a very good price as well. Very friendly staff a must visit even if it's just for a coffee.

Deciding that we needed an early spring break we decided to go to Porlock. This is a two and a half hour drive from home. Searching on this web site we found Millers at the Anchor. What a wonderfully quirky place. Every room was a feast to the eyes - we stayed over the weekend and was still discovering items...

Dear Debby Thank you very much for your kind comments. We all work very hard to make this a relaxing, comfortable home from home experience, it really motivates the staff to hear you had a very positive experience. We hope to see you return soon. Kind Regards Millers

After being seated at our table we waited about 15 minutes for someone to return and take our order, We eventually ordered and after a short wait our meals arrived, I had the roast pork and my partner had the beef. Although the plates were hot the food was at best luke warm, the meat in both cases was tough...

We stayed for a 4 day couples holiday in the Autumn. We were wowed as soon as we walked in. The hotel is fascinating and delightfully quirky, like you've stepped into your lovingly eccentric grandparents treasure trove filled with an eclectic array of chintz, antiques, taxidermy and artifacts. And this doesn't stop just at reception, the hallways and rooms are...

This is a great place to stay if you want an individual hotel with it's own personality. Such a welcome relief to find somewhere that wasn't just another chain trying too hard. Yes it's quirky and a bit shabby chic but that all adds to the relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. We were half way through our first weekend walking the...

Amazing location over looking beautiful scenery. The hotel is as quirky as the website suggests with welcoming open fires, antiques and nik-naks and the best gin and tonics. The breakfast is hearty and sets you up for long ambling walks and the dinners are skilful. Wednesday night is movie night with 2 courses and a film for £15. Bargain. On...

Dear Sara M Thank you for your review. We will be taking on more staff in the immediate future and this should alleviate the need for to much of a wait. I don't know if you informed reception with regard the showers, unfortunately they can be prone to airlock but our staff are very good at being able to get...

Reading some other reviews I'm surprised by the remarks of being put off by the quirky pieces outside? A Gorilla over the door, sheep to the right amongst other things, they made me laugh and want to see the inside. Staff are lovely, we had booked in for the night and kindly they upgraded us to a Harbour View which...

I don't understand people who clearly use TripAdvisor and have the opportunity to see what they are buying in advance and then write stinging criticisms of what they find when they arrive. We stand on a Saturday night on a Secret Escapes deal. We had room 7 on the top floor with views directly over the bay, which is beautiful....

We stayed here for 2 nights on a secret Escapes deal. We couldn't fault it at all. Yes it's quirky and yes some of the bathrooms could do with updating but it didn't spoil it for us. You can take your dog they are made just as welcome as you are. We are in the restaurant twice and couldn't fault...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
For over 200 years the Anchor has served Porlock Weir's 15th-century harbor for sailors, walkers and huntsmen alike. Where Exmoor meets the sea, Porlock Weir is an idyllic working harbor with stunning coastal views. Martin Miller together with his daughter Tanya have created a hunting lodge by the sea. This 14-bedroom hotel is crammed with Martin's antiques and curiosities. The Anchor has all the hallmarks of his unique style. Roaring log fires, candlelit sensuality, books by the thousand and bowls of fruit and sweets, all washed down with a Millers award winning Gin and tonic. ... more   less
