We stayed over the Christmas period whilst visiting friends. The welcome was excellent and the staff were really good. A big plus was that the room was made up each day which some hotels have stopped doing for multi-night stays. Selection of drinks good. The room (14) was comfortable but in some respects disappointing. The toilet did not flush properly, the tiling and paintwork on the door frame in the bathroom were chipped. The shower screen was too short to do its job. Wifi did not have internet access during the night. The TV control only worked in the half of the room nearest the TV so you had to get out of bed to change the channel or volume or to switch off. On the first night we were disturbed by the noise from the bar which was immediately below, fortunately the hotel closed early the other two nights. Access to the hotel from the room was locked overnight and was not opened at 0700 as indicated. This meant you had to go outside in the rain to access the hotel and vice versa. There was no explanation of which external door to access the room when the rest of the hotel had been locked up. Breakfasts were good but seemed disorganised, no side plates or saucers or juices set out, limited ordinary tea bags. Plenty of car parking.

Booked this hotel as a romantic getaway for my wife and I to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Having looked at the pictures, we booked a superior double with the bath in the room. Upon arrival, we were given a room in the main building (Cocoa). It was nothing like the pictures on the website. The room was really tired looking, two work out sofas and a TV that sat squint on the wall. Not happy, we went to reception where to the hotels credit, we were offered a different room, albeit without the bath, in an outbuilding. This was much better than the one in the main hotel. We had breakfast the following morning which was nice. I did ask for some toast with my full English which never disappointingly never arrived. Don't think I'd stay again in its current guise and definitely not for couples looking for a romantic getaway unless you are guaranteed one of the nicer rooms.

Having reserved a table for lunch we were kept waiting for some considerable time before being allocated a table. From there it went from bad to worse……. Staff were completely disorganised & gave the impression of not knowing their role. Even at a busy time one male member of staff was observed slovenly sitting on a table in the upper restaurant area. Kept waiting for drinks Wrong drink delivered Wrong food delivered Food not upto scratch No mention of would we like dessert Poor impression of staff member when it came to paying the bill ( air of disrespect) Overall very poor indeed and certainly doubt we will return

What a great little place. We stayed here when visiting Oxford. It’s only half an hour away, and it’s so much nicer to be staying in a lovely pub with rooms in the countryside than in town. The rooms are modern, spacious and clean. A hearty cooked breakfast, with lots of choices, was included in the room rate. Each night we returned from Oxford for a drink in the cosy bar by the fire, and some delicious desserts from the large pub menu. Well worth using as your hopping off place.
