This is a beautiful old building sympathetically fitted out and a relaxing and friendly atmosphere with helpful and friendly staff. Stopped off for lunch whilst visiting Saffron Walden and tried the set menu with two courses for under £14 including lambs kidneys in a pepper jus on crusty bread (sauce was delicious) followed by a thai prawn meal both were... What a great lunch we had at The Cross Keys at Saffron Walden. There happened to be a new menu launching on the day we visited and we all thought the food was fabulous. Also, the offers on the menu for fixed price two or three course lunches was very good. The battered cod was absolutely delicious, as were the... More

Seriously... this place needs to read rethink it's image. Is it a coffee shop or is it some high profile eatery..? It cannot seem to make up its mind.!! We thought we would try it out today but God, we didn't stay long... the "menu" has to be requested as there is nothing on the tables, and one quick glance... More

We called here after a day out, we were given a warm welcome, all the staff were very friendly. The menu was quite limited, however we all found something we liked, all the food was well presented very tasty and we all enjoyed it. To start with the service was a little slow, but this improved as the evening progressed,... More

Visited this hotel in august for 2 nights. The hotel is in a perfect location being in the town square. First impressions of the hotel good. Reception, bar area and restaurant area nice. And, oh dear, the rooms. They need a complete refurbishment. All very tired. Blown vinyl wall paper, woodchip paper in the bathroom, very small shower cubical in... More

If you are looking for a place to stay in Saffron Walden, you've found it! But reserve wisely. Originally, we were in room 2, which suffers from extreme stuffiness and street clamor all night long. But once we moved to room 1, which was larger and lovely, we were able to get a good night's rest. There are also more... More

This is a really old building beautifully layed out. Our room was gorgeous and very comfortable. We had dinner on one evening - food and service was excellent. Surroundings are very comfortable and relaxing for a few pre bedtime drinks. There was a good choice for breakfast and food was freshly cooked. However the service at breakfast time wasn't of... The rooms in the restored barn out back are absolutely awsome. Ours was huge, with a freestanding roll-top bath in the room (plus a shower room). Air con, super comfy bed. Quiet, and right in the centre. Excellent value too at 120 - which gets you a shabby cramped bnb room in nearby Cambridge. Well worth a jaunt up from... More

Molly's teas room is at the back of this hotel. We were out for a stroll round Saffron Walden and thought we'd have a cuppa and a cake or scone. Big mistake! We wish we'd have gone to Costa. My husband went inside to order while I sat at a very dirty table on the patio area, no-one came to... More

Stayed in deluxe room last night. Room was gorgeous. Ate in the restaurant in the evening. Food really nice, staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again. Saffron Walden a lovely place to visit, Saturday market good, Fry gallery good and lots of interesting things to see and explore in the town.
