The downstairs to this hotel is nice which is deceiving as the bedroom (number 4) was very tired looking. The TV couldn't pick up a signal on the evening but did work the following morning. The hotel seems to operate some sort of heating/cooling system which was incredibly noisy and went on all through the night. Breakfast was nice although... More

We were staying in the area for a family wedding and had a meal at the Saffron Hotel the evening before. The staff were very obliging and friendly. We ate in the main restaurant and the ambience was very pleasant. We chose their Fish Friday deal which was fish in batter, hand cut chunky chips, peas and what tasted like... More

We stayed here for one night for a wedding nearby. We stayed in the family room, very large and perfect for our family of four. Room was VERY warm and only a small fan provided - would consider better fans for warmer months as we were all absolutely boiling and couldn't leave windows open due to noise from the traffic... stayed at the Saffron hotel thursday to saturday. The hotel is ideally situated in Saffron Walden, although on a very busy street. Parking is a bit tricky and is limited to a few cars which I did not have a problem with, if you are blocked in the staff contact other owners and problem is quickly resolved. Others have commented... More

Where shall I start! Well with the arrival I suppose. I have booked a room with a free car parking space, when I arrived at about 10 pm, I was told there is a small courtyard parking but in case there were no spaces available, I could park outside the hotel on single yellow line till 8 am or use... We were staying in this hotel last night until we left at around 2.00 am. We were staying in the Audley Suite. The room was OK and we never got to try the shower. The decor is very tired, window wouldn't stay open but even if it did, the room is right by a really noisy ventilation system. Room was... More

I have eaten Sunday lunch before at this hotel and it was fine, nothing super special but fine. However I visited on Sun 03 July and it was absolutely fantastic lunch. I understand that it has changed ownership or management recently and boy does it show! By far the best Sunday roast I have had in a long time and... More

Disappointed. We visited today at about 2pm. We were a party of 4. We ordered drinks and just wanted something to snack on. We ordered a fish platter. When it arrived we were given 2 fish platters. We said to our waitress, who was the same person that took our order, that we only ordered one fish platter and not... More

Good afternoon Apologies for the misunderstanding with your meal with us on Sunday. Having spoken to the staff that handled your table it seems that there was a confusion in the order you placed. Our fish platters are served for two people and when the order was placed it was ordered for four people. This led the staff member to... More

A large, fairly quiet hotel which offered very friendly, helpful service and pleasant food. We were there on a Friday which for £8.95 offered well cooked fish (choice of cod or haddock) in light batter with peas, chips and tartare sauce plus a choice of beer, cider or soft drink. We were visiting the Fry Gallery which turned out to... More
